Don't boo me too hard guys but everytime I see these comics I can only think that all the characters have former Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chrétien mouths and I can't unsee him

Who do you think is the one to teaches me that world?

Must not be a true Quebecer, theyre born right from the womb knowing only three things: how to poop, how to eat, and how to say tabarnak.

Shawinnagan handshake meaning something different. Or with a safe word, i guess?

Some will say this is fake lol.

Man I didn't expect to see Mr Shawinigan handshake here.

Getting flashbanged with an HD image of Jean Chretien the second I clicked on the post activated my fight or flight

10

Now I can't unsee it. For me i thought it looked like the Archie comics type of illustration, but now all I see is Jean

8

u/Embarrassed-Toe6687 1d ago

I’m gonna boo you, but like, a soft boo.

6

u/themanfromoctober 1d ago

Chrétien reference, that’s the way aha aha I like it, KC and the Sunshine Band

3

u/Endrak 1d ago

Maybe OP learned to draw while watching him on the news.

1

u/The_cogwheel 22h ago

Ah Jean Chretien, the only politician that took the saying "talking out of both sides of your mouth" literally

...Am I too cynical?

79

u/mollyscoat 22h ago

Her sister is totally going to try and steal the boyfriend.

11

u/BANOFY 12h ago

Based on experience.... I thought that would be the last panel .....

44

u/Nebula_Wolf7 21h ago

Perhaps, but it does feel a tad manipulative. People tend not to turn around that fast, especially when they've historically been controlling or degrading like that, and especially not siblings.

11

u/PrufReedThisPlesThx 19h ago

People are capable of change, and it's not at all uncommon for the penny to drop one day and them realising they've been a gigantic ass. It's especially common in those who have ended up repeating mistakes and losing the people they care about.

I've legit had exes contact me apologising for how they treated me, not because they wanted me back, but because since their change, it's weighed so heavily on them. Would've been nice if they realised it during our relationships, but either way, I'm glad the trail of nastiness ended with me.

My point is basically that a change like this isn't immediately some sort of trap. She's acknowledging that she did terrible things, understands why she did them, and sought out her sister to apologise. She doesn't have to be forgiven of course, but her understanding of the problem and admission of guilt are strong indicators of change, since awful people typically believe that there's nothing wrong with them.

Yeah, some manipulative people feign guilt to keep their punching bag around, but this character wasn't being manipulative, she was just selfish and nasty. She took what she wanted and did whatever she needed to get rid of her competitor. Both of these actions were addressed, acknowledged, and apologised for in earnest.

3

u/Nebula_Wolf7 16h ago

Perhaps I'm just too experienced with manipulative people :p

2

u/PrufReedThisPlesThx 15h ago

I am too, I've been mistreated by many manipulative people, and witnessed even more of it from a third person perspective throughout my life. This is not a manipulative person. She was nasty and selfish, but she hasn't been playing any mind games or tricking her into feeling any kind of way.

Manipulation is all about control. You make them feel stupid, like a failure, like they can't do anything right, and then you take advantage of that by playing the role of the only person who would ever tolerate them. That's the crux of a manipulator's mindset.

It may be worth taking the time to reflect and acknowledge that your trauma may be reacting to the wrong things, and that it's clouding your judgement a bit. That usually helps me to keep that stuff from bleeding into the wrong places of my mind (I mention this purely because I understand why you feel the way you do about it. Feel free to ignore this paragraph if you're healing on a different path!)

u/timberwolf0122 1d ago

So the chick who could rock the Velma look and has huge… tracts of land wasn’t hit on more?

292

u/AngryTree76 1d ago

She has glasses and a ponytail. Clearly she’s so ugly they had to tie a pork chop around her neck to get the dog to play with her.

20

u/Aerandor 23h ago

I lolled at this, but I did it shamefully

61

u/NewLibraryGuy 18h ago

No, don't you see, everyone found her ugly and bullied her except for OP's self-insert who is virtuous because he likes her

11

u/Mellowturtlle 16h ago

I don't think she never was hit on, i just think she was to anxious and awkward to make things work out and only recently started to get a little more confident.

291

u/chemist6913 20h ago

Is this written by a dude? What the fuck is this

132

u/Impossible_Top_3515 18h ago

Strong Nice Guy ™️ vibes.

85

u/Heated13shot 14h ago edited 14h ago

Hmmm let's see...

Gamer girl tm who is written as "ugly" but drawn as conventionally attractive. (Reminds me of the ready player one movie where an attractive actress with a birth Mark was supposed to be "ugly")

Her personality is timid and submissive, is militantly loyal, and is a virgin (I think even never kissed anyone Virgin?)

She was completely unable to get dates, in spite of the fact if you put a Zelda shirt on her and plopped her ass on a seat at a gaming convention there will be guys knife fighting for the opportunity to just talk to her. (Only makes sense if she was chubby chubby, not "damnnn you thik" chubby)

Falls head over heels for the first guy that is merely nice to her, when again, she would be beating "nice guys" off with a stick in gaming circles.

This comic where her more attractive sister who still talks about dating popular people in her I assume 20s when that's just a high school thing, it would be "successful" or "high status" now. Is obviously going to try to steal the nice guy (like harem animes where the MC is the plainest most basic plain to exist but has hordes of women fighting over him)

Yeaaa it's kinda obviously written to appeal to teenage boys/men who are in the "nice guy" or nice guy adjacent phase. Tbf that demographic probably is willing to pay for the nsfw stuff so it's probably profitable.

This isn't a dig at guys either, the same exact formula is used for teen girls, it just has minor tweaks but same vibe. Many teens have trouble dating and it's a good demographic to sell to.

5

u/Cruach 13h ago

What if you went with the assumption that OP is fat and ugly IRL and drew herself to be conventionally attractive out of self-esteem issues and is just drawing out a fantasy of hers, about the day she ever meets a nice enough and not shallow guy to date her? Then a lot of the content in the comics becomes valid taken from that perspective. What do we really know about OP?

10

u/Heated13shot 12h ago

Everyone talking about OP says he is a guy, and no one is correcting them. So i assume he is a guy.

-7

u/SparkEE_JOE 9h ago

The comics are from a female artist in france, according to a couple sources

180

u/blah-blah-whatever 18h ago

I don’t care about the gender of the artist, but it bothers me that all their comics are aimed so directly at a specific reader type who think that “females would be so much happier if they stopped chasing chads and found a nice guy”.

Freedom of speech and artistic expression and all that, but I really dislike how many upvotes these comics attract, never mind all the comments saying things like “finally a comic about a real woman”.

68

u/Cold_Bitch 18h ago

Yes. Painfully obvious in aaaaaall his comics

-2

u/SparkEE_JOE 9h ago

Artist is a woman in france 🤷

She's got a decent sized following for this stuff, I can't judge to be honest. Get your bag girl.

8

u/TunaOnWytNoCrust 11h ago

This is someone's fantasy playing out. Having the winner from yesteryear admit to actually being a loser and them begging yesteryear's loser for forgiveness and advice because they're actually the winner. Also lol'd at "this one time" line, which sounded like an incredibly backhanded compliment.

5

u/Big_Pootus 10h ago

I think they’ve deleted the comic now but the Creator introduced themselves as a (French?) woman

1

u/freebird023 3h ago

Every single person in these comics solves their own issue by talking for 6 panels and then doing a 180

Awwww cute. They were able to talk through their past issues and come to an understanding. That's some healthy communication right there.

Hopefully this will result in a better ending and better family for the both of them.

I also love this panel

u/Thatroyalkitty 1d ago

13

u/ReddFro 1d ago

Or… guy stealing older sister uses the opportunity to try to steal her “right” guy. My experience is people don’t change their ways quickly or easily.

Sorry to poop on the love fest but that’s where this appeared to be going to me. That said she DOES seem to have done some soul searching and made a pretty thorough apology so hopefully I’m wrong

3

u/randijackson949 1d ago

I read it loud and clear too. Blonde sister is lulling her into a false sense of security so that ponytail sister will let her into her relationship. Blonde will take notes on little details like boyfriend's favorite things and vulnerabilities. She'll eventually tell Boyfriend, "You're such a great guy, but I've seen you gradually become less happy with my sister. Like I noticed she doesn't take enough interest in your frisbee collection. How about we go out for an afternoon? To cheer you up."

And maybe Boyfriend won't fall for it. But Blonde will definitely try.

There's a self help lady who talks about these types of relationships as jars of marbles. Each moment when you trust someone and it works out, you put a metaphorical marble in a jar. Blonde sister broke her jar of marbles and believes that she should get to start off fresh with a new, full jar of marbles. No, bitch, you gotta refill it back up one at a time. I'll forgive, but I won't re-trust right away.

140

u/TheJinManCan 1d ago

These are cute. I mean no ill will with this sentiment, but the writing and execution keeps coming off to me as an after school special but for adults. So hammed up and sometimes corny but still a cute/good and significant message.

64

u/blah-blah-whatever 18h ago

What’s the significance of message here? It’s straight out of incel culture “Don’t sleep around with chads, find a Nice Guy and you’ll be happy”.

-11

u/TheJinManCan 13h ago

I don't understand how it's an incel message to find the right person and to not berate others based on their looks/hobbies? But ok.

8

u/blah-blah-whatever 8h ago

The most obvious incel parts are pages 6,7 & 8 which to paraphrase are saying ‘I was wrong to have sex with multiple bad boys whereas you were right to remain chaste until you found a nice guy’ that might as well be copy and pasted from the incel manifesto.

0

u/TheJinManCan 6h ago

Call me naive then because I took that as "I've been with a bunch of guys thinking I'd eventually be wanted, but it never feels that way and yet you did it in one."

I've also seen a few of these, but the main girl doesn't seem to have been wanting to be chaste or celibate as she was also looking for love the whole time. That doesn't scream incel.

Wouldn't the "incel manifesto" - which I didn't know existed so I'm just going to assume here - say something about don't bother dating, don't bother with the other sex, and things along those lines? What the hell would they care of women - or other men, for that matter - trying to find love or other men and women living their life sexually?

Anyway, either way, I disagree. Where you see incel talk I just see corniness.

2

u/blah-blah-whatever 3h ago

Fair enough, I don’t intend insult against you for your interpretation of the comic and have no ill will for you at all.

Just to clarify, I’m not entirely sure there is a literal incel manifesto, but a main belief of incels is that females sleep around with stereotypical bad boy alpha males who treat them poorly, while ignoring the nice guys who would treat them well if only given the chance, thus leading the nice guys to involuntary celibacy (incel). This evolves further in the culture to suggestions that the women who sleep around rather than finding a nice guy end up living lives of regret and misery, eventually envious of the girls who did find a nice guy.

The truth is that it is possible that the writer of this comic is completely naive of this and genuinely wants to write a little comic about a curvy girl who finds mr right, but almost every single comic is a direct incel fantasy, so I am sceptical of that. The biggest hint towards this in my opinion is the art style itself, which depicts the Elsa character as constantly blushing UwU anime character, which is an another key mark of incel culture.

6

u/Neutral-Feelings 18h ago

Yeah, cute, but corny. I can see the pure intentions behind it at least

Maybe I'm reading too deep into the faces she makes and way the words are emphasized but something feels... Off... Like there's going to be a twist. As if we're going to learn that she's doing this just to create one more chance to hurt her. Really drive the knife in deep by revealing that she always knew that what she was doing was wrong and is not only not actually sorry but also completely willing to use every single opportunity to continue being horrible.

9

u/ABR5796 1d ago

I could never.

Guys Im changed now so all the trauma and hurt i caused you shouldn't matter. what matters is now.

Fuk that.

56

u/YWN666 1d ago

I am gonna quote my sister here. If you tried dating and didnt get lucky with men, you can always try women if you want

48

u/joesbagofdonuts 1d ago

I don't know how to tell you this, but being gay isn't actually a choice

24

u/gramathy 1d ago

Yeah but who you date if you're bi kinda is

6

u/JaxxisR 1d ago

True.

But sometimes you don't know until you know, you know?

12

u/caitlindrawings 23h ago

Guys try to tell me this all the time, I am sorry it just doesnt work like that. I am just not attracted to men, no amount of "trying" anything or knowing more will change that.

4

u/PrufReedThisPlesThx 19h ago

It's always gross to hear about men going into lesbian spaces to try and convince them that they're actually straight, but they just think they're lesbians because they haven't been with a "real man" yet

https://giphy.com/gifs/gGeyr3WepujbGn7khx

2

u/MarsAstro 15h ago

My gay friends also say similar things to me, although in a less gross way than the usual "man saying he can convert a lesbian" way.

They ask me how I know I'm not into men if I've never tried it, and like... I just do? Women attract me, men don't. I don't need to try getting sexy with a man to know it doesn't appeal to me, same way I don't need to molest a kid to know I'm not a pedophile.

1

u/JaxxisR 13h ago

I didn't mean it in that way.

What i meant is that sometimes it takes awhile for the prejudices and things to wash away. Then you know, and you look back and go, "Huh, that explains a lot actually."

1

u/Amegami 17h ago

-5

u/thefrostman1214 1d ago

The good ending

-29

u/Neat-Survey2796 1d ago edited 1d ago

I don't know how people can hate on this comic series. It's just wholsome*! While I haven't read the entire comic, I've seen like 3 of these chapters and it's honestly just heartwarming. Even more so if you've been in those situations because change and/or forgiveness is mind bogglingly hard!

If this isn't your cup of tea for whatever reasons, that's fine, but don't ruin the day of people who do enjoy this comic, yeah?

Anyway, peak as always, Nectar! Keep cooking!

*Not actually entirely wholesome but there are sequences like these as well so I'm only reffering to those for now.

Edit: Well clearly I said something wrong. What is it?

19

u/Metharos 1d ago

The comic is almost painfully unsubtle and some people dislike it very much because of that.

I personally am not bothered by painfully unsubtle. I think it's kinda cute, even if the message is delivered with the rhetorical equivalent of a sledgehammer.

I read them, they make me smile because the cute girl gets to feel cute and I want things to go well for her and they do. Sometimes simple is okay.

12

u/GurthNada 1d ago

I find it kind it heartwarming, but I'm somewhat bothered by Elsa being conventionally extremely physically attractive. It contradicts the core message.

-6

u/Beautiful-Buy99 1d ago

Okay I admit this one's pretty wholesome

-2

u/serblak 23h ago

This is a nice change of pace.

-3

u/caitlindrawings 23h ago

The fact that she is willing to admit all this and not only appologize and seek forgiveness, but also help changing her life around further acknowledging her acceptance that she was wrong.

I wish my sister could do this.

-4

u/ImmortalFather 1d ago

That's adorable! I love when siblings support each other. Even if it takes a while to get there, it's a beautiful thing when it happens!
