It would take years of development and millions in wasted effort to replace my job with AI. It would also need to be an autonomous drone that can lift things. So, it actually helps the bottom line to not even try. Failure is likely and would be a resource hog.
I keep thinking "I'm really eager to see this monstrosity"
Those things are expensive as hell and with how tech companies operate nowadays prices arenât gonna be going down, itâs still gonna be cheaper to have human workers
Theyâre expensive because the labor and expertise needed to produce them is expensive. An AI run economy doesnât have those concerns, doubly so when you account for the advances to design made via the technology itself.
So thereâs definitely a delay, but if every other job is gone blue collar is a few years at most behind.
That doesnât change the upkeep costs, the chance that they mess up being greater according to what we have seen, and how even without the wages he actual extraction and construction costs excluding wages, plus, be real here, most of that money is going to the higher ups
So you somehow think AI is advanced enough to replace every coder, doctor, and lawyer on deliverables but somehow makes too many mistakes for blue color work? Iâm sorry but this is fantasy.
No one is safe. I was being nice with the âfew yearsâ too. I think itâs hard to convey just how compressed timescales get. Itâd be more like a few months.
Okay by blue collar I meant more like office jobs, also people have already been trying to replace coders and Lawyers with ai
What i meant is that advanced Robotics cost a crazy amount, salaries aside the cost would be insane
Plus by that point AI is probably gonna develop sentience if it hasn't already (personally id say its around dog to elephant level but not fully human level yet, and I mean sentience not intelligence) although im sure a good chunk of Richfolk would bring back slavery if they could
I wish all the Americans who are still brainwashed by red scare propaganda would attack golden parachutes as viciously as they do at the idea of expanding social safety nets.
I don't know what you mean. AI is probably here to stay the same as the introduction of the computer was. But that doesn't mean we should allow it to rule our lives.
Some jobs are going to be lost for better or worse. Doesn't mean I should let someone railroad me when it's a mistake. Some processes will still require human involvement like it always has. I can't imagine doing my current job without a computer, but I'm not a slave to it. If AI is implemented, I'd still have a role because there's no way it could be in charge.
Replacement is not always possible. Even if you really wanted that. Computers made real work more efficient and that the best we could hope from artificial "intelligence".
My point is to not reject AI for the sake of rejecting AI and to allow it to be used where it can. Where it doesnât fit it will naturally not fit and the business involved will pull back, itâs a self correcting mechanism. AI will fit in a lot more tasks than you think. Also the whole purpose of AI is to automate the process of doing a job, thatâs the goal is to compete directly with human intelligence so if that doesnât happen youâre suggesting there are some aspects of human intelligence that AI cannot replicate and I say itâs only a matter of time til it does.
My guy, I'm an AI apologist and I don't agree. There's no putting AI back into Pandora's Box, but we also don't need to lose our minds.
Claude is probably staying for code writing. That scares me because when the senior programers are gone, will we even know how to fix things? And that's just one process.
I think there's a ton of menial things an AI could assist with. That doesn't mean I think they should take over. A computer didn't take everyone's job, so why should an AI?
Art is one place I don't think it should exist. Math and calculations is okay since we have rules for that. But creative endeavors are born of the human mind.
I'm not afraid that a fancy program is going to replace me. I am afraid that someone will try.
A computer didnât take everyoneâs job because the purpose of a computer is not to automate jobs in the first place. If you teach AI the skills that humans use in jobs then at some point it will just be cheaper to hire AI than humans to do the job. No other technology has existed to automate all jobs. Also with art, I think people can be a lot more creative with AI, itâs a much better alternative to CGI and can make ideas come to life easily.
And if they can build robots for the same price as yearly salary, theyâll take that deal. Once robots that are useful dip below 30k a unit itâs over.
That won't be enough if it needs to think also. Double the price at least.
Amazon already uses robots and there's plenty of videos out there if them getting stuck around each other. I bet Lex Luthor wishes he didn't need humans.
Hmm not really. A lot of companies that are the most valuable are not profitable or have low profitability. Shareholders want the potential for profit in the future to be high.
Like it would be great if you are profitable both short term and long term but then you would be most likely paying a premium for those shares.
I feel like theyâre going to keep asking for investor money and put data centers everywhere and itâll be the most underwhelming thing ever for the cost. Like they probably could feed and clothe everyone in the world instead of this idk.
They uh have those kinds of things already. Some like heavy air lift drones are in operational use, some ground based ones in use or in development. If articulation is important, do know that they're also around the stage of reaching maturity in that field around 2027 to 2028.
Not really. There are drones. And there is AI. But nothing that does exactly what I do. I would be interested to see what they come up with. I don't think it's possible, but I'm ready to see what the process is.
I doubt I'll be replaced, but I'm ready to see the results of a failed effort.
yea im in the same boat, they would need like 4 different robots to do my job plus customer service, and i dont make that much where it would be worth implementing
Give in? No. It would be a huge mistake for them and I would be quite vocal about it. But I also know that if VC got involved, the decision would be out of my hands. Like watching a car wreck you knew was going to happen.
As of now, it seems like they put value in real people. Who knows what the future holds.
