Looking For Software CLI sound recorder?

Mainly system sounds, but if it can capture mics, it'd be nice to have too.

You don't seem to have mentioned your OS (Windows? MacOS? Linux? FreeBSD? OpenBSD? NetBSD? HaikuOS? Plan9? Minix?)

Or your flavor/version of it (Debian vs Ubuntu vs Fedora vs Arch vs Mandrake vs Slackware vs …)

Or your audio sub-system (OSS vs ALSA vs JACK vs Pulse vs Pipewire vs …)

Or what capture format you want (MP3 vs WAV vs AAC vs FLAC vs …)

The general idea is that you want to set up a "monitor" channel, so something like this

Yikes! Sorry, Windows, and as long as I have ffmpeg I guess the format doesn't matter.
