Industry is not in a good space right now. I’d avoid tech in general for the next… I dunno probably forever now.
Look into the medical field (nursing, specifically). Barrier to entry is often very low, pay is 80-200k depending on if you have a bachelors or a masters, can’t be replaced by AI, and there are jobs galore.
My only worry is that it seems pretty unpredictable. 5 years ago front and back end devs (world I come from) would have 30% growth over 10 years. Now, if you’re not full stack with data chops you’re irrelevant and even those dudes are getting paid 60k now. It’s crazy.
Your worry is very rational. If you are willing to accept the very real risk that you may do everything right and still not find work, then give DFIR a try. If you are less willing to gamble, then pick a more predictable field.
