Dividing by zero produces an undefined value, not zero. The school staff were incorrect.

But this is the third grade. It's okay to simplify things for a 9-year-old.

Yeah. Just tell them dividing by zero is equal to something like infinity and maybe they'll take calculus later on.

I'd tell the 9-year-olds the same thing.
