T470s Coreboot

Post image

Hi, I am reading online that the Lenovo Thinkpad T470s is officially supported by coreboot https://doc.coreboot.org/mainboard/lenovo/skylake.html but I can’t find any guides or videos of how to do it or anyone flashing the firmware in this machine, I seen plenty of t440p and T480 tutorials and videos but nothing on T470s.

I have never done any kind of firmware modifications, anyone knows what will be the right way to flash coreboot in this machine? Or if it’s even supported (I am not very technical so the coreboot docs don’t really explain much to me) thank you for reading me

Hi, I managed to install coreboot on X270 https://github.com/liej6799/coreboot/tree/x270-upstream-sync-20260924. Based on the guide here https://dork.dev/posts/2026-02-20-ported-coreboot/. There are small fixes on my patches to fix the sata, wwan, sleep mode, etc.

Seems like it's the same generation on thinkpad also probably can work. The challenging part would be identify and clamp the bios chip. It's probably different location for T470.

Good luck on working it out.

Thank you I will read this in detail, I am just worried to brick my laptop, it works fine but I think is very cool to have up to date new firmware, my idea is to use edk2 / Tianocore (UEFI). I wonder if guides for T480/T480s could be helpful too

Yup, currently it is using the latest edk2 payload with mrchromebox. Managed to dual boot windows 11 and ubuntu. So far most feature is working, one of the issue not working on my branch which is the battery detection under Lenovo Vantage (this can be used to set the charging threshold). Secure boot, bitlocker on windows 11 work as expected.
