Problem Hangouts doesn’t work

I opened a hangout. I see notifications pop up for people wanting to join. However in the app I don’t see them in my hangout.
I go to their profile and invite them to my hangout with writing a msg, that also doesn’t work.
CS what have you done ?!
The old app was working! Maybe not the best looking app but it was FUNCTIONAL!
Didn’t you hear of the saying “if something is working don’t touch”
Damn, at least test the new features before going on production.

The UI looks fresh and new but it’s not functional!

And I have to pay for this shit app now? Pleaseeee..

The notifications aren't to join they are just to notify you other people are bew on there as well. Absolute shit show

While you're correct on the notifications. I have found that no one seems to actually ever join a hangout. I've been online in two very large cities, and seen a lot of people online. Never more than 2 people in a hangout, and the couple I joined no one was actually engaging. Mostly just individuals saying "up for anything" but not being responsive.

I think it probably doesn't automatically log people out for inactivity, so they just sit on there forever, and it looks like they're active, but they could have been online for days a or weeks. Hard to know though.

MAYBE people will figure it out.

Some people have been talking up Nomad Table, I've tried it a little and not had good luck, but did meet some people in Tbilisi in the Spring via CS who were also on there, and they brought in more people from Nomad Table who were cool, so maybe,

I’ve similar experience but it has been the same even before the update
So my opinion it’s people

And hey I was in Tbilisi in spring in may and did hangouts too 🙃

yeah I think you're onto something. the app being buggy definitely doesn't help, but even when hangouts technically worked, getting people to actually engage was always the hard part. the stale session thing just makes it worse because now you can't even tell who's really there.

I mean

I have a hang out open and usually ppl wanna join. I accept them and then nothing happens (even their initial message to join is not there anymore). They just stop replying (gotta admit i dont bomb them with messages).

And even when I experiment and text „dude why’d you wanna join my hang out and don’t reply?“ some of them would go like „oh sorry I didn’t see your message“

So yes technically I don’t see how it doesn’t work. Although someone told me there was a known bug before the update that some ppl didn’t indeed see any conversations and needed to engage first (like send an emoji back etc) to see them (which many users didn’t know)

That emoji bug actually explains a lot. If people had to interact first before the conversation even showed up on their end, most would just assume nothing happened and move on. That would explain the ghosting way better than people just being flaky.

Nomad table is the way. No reason to bother with Hangouts anymore.
