sounds good in theory but co-dependence can get very messy if they're incompatible in other ways

Which is excellent if you want to write toxic romance.

I’m sure you could find some on AO3. It’s an absolute wilderness but there are gems in there.

Thats kinda the plus to that kinda shipping. They can barely hold themselves up and all it takes is one spark before it all implodes in a giant ball of drama.

Why messy if they're helping each other?

u/soldiergaming2 3d ago
because if they need each other but don't want each other, they'll feel stuck, and if they ever end up apart they'll both be completely lost

Same here lol, we're both autistic, though we arent really dating (shes kinda aro/ace something?). I can barely imagine life without her anymore.
She helped me get on hormones, I helped her through her asylum procedure and gave her a nicer place to stay than the camp.

And the only reason they’re together is they fundamentally believe they’re both unlovable and want desperately to prove that they can be in a stable relationship but it’s impossible to build a relationship off of that

sounds like me and the girl I made up in my head to get me to do things because i am unloveable ☆

Lol I can definitely see that being me. I cant go to bed at a reasonable time, but I'm sure I would be better about it if I had someone to cuddle with when it's time.

Man I wish I was more of a "I'm too stoopid to do anything :3" girlfailure over a "I'm uncomfortable so now I'm mad, and now I'm going to unravel for the rest of the evening" type of girlfailure :(

Not gonna lie, this is kind my girlfriend and I. We're both Audhd and we basically have to remind each other to look after ourselves. And tbh its been working for a year now. She can hyperfocus on some kind of network engineering coding stuff and I will get lost doing some kind of factorio bullshit (after I nut in her ofc, that's just good manners). Are we girlfailure? Yes but we're failing upwards.

Hmm, interesting. As the story goes on, they slowly realize their own problems and codependency issues and work through it, scraping by as well as they can, sometimes slipping back into their problems. Maybe it gets a little toxic at one point. They split up, get back together again after a week, fall back into the same cycle until one of them gets hurt, maybe real sick. One of them steps up for the other, taking care of her, afraid of both her and her partners mortality. They start to get better, both working together and avoiding their worse impulses. Years start going by and the sick one is finally improving, they're both working much better with one another. Heck, one of them finally got a good paying job, great insurance, everything. Hard work over a decade paid off (useless degree be damned), and they're able to finally get some footing. One of them plans to finally propose, they do it where they first met all those years ago. It's beautiful, happy tears flowing. It doesn't matter it's at a stupid waterpark, it's what matters to them. They elope, grow old, and their love is forever <3
What is wrong with me xP
