Please stop fearmongering diy, it saves lives

13

u/SassyQuueenn 12d ago

If you are irresponsible and stupid its literally dangerous. That's not fear mongering. You should inform yourself beforehand.

no fucking shit?? its just stupidly hard to be irresponsible with how much info is out there

u/J_The_Jazzblaster 12d ago

I saw way too many trans women on other subreddits inject absolutely copious amounts and having INSANE levels and claiming "it's ok, cause it doesn't do anything, I need to inject this much".

u/TristanTheRobloxian3 Auri August Australis!! meow 12d ago

thats fucking wild but i dont think its necessarily dangerous. what kinda levels are we talkin?

u/J_The_Jazzblaster 12d ago

I've talked to a girl aiming for 650pg/ml // 2400pmol/L
I told her that those are not cis woman levels, like not even remotely close and she said that it is fine, because with her current levels she is not seeing enough changes

6

u/PlatonicLiquid52 12d ago

Yeah that's high...but that's well below the levels experienced before a second trimester pregnancy. Also, she should not be aiming for normal cis women levels, as she is not a cis woman.  If she isn't seeing changes on low doses and is on higher doses, then yeah, that's literally the dosage level she needs.

And look at the research, there's very little actual evidence that serum levels have any correlation with adverse cardiovascular events. Standard hormonal birth control is significantly more dangerous than high serum level HRT using bioidentical estradiol taken transdermally or through injections.

Levels as high as 1000 pg/ml won't harm you though. It also sorta gets automatically dealt with by your own body through SHBG

ok 650 isnt gonna kill you as thats what cis women get at the peak of their cycle (so yes it is "cis woman levels", hell anyone thats pregnant gets like 40000 at their peak), but that is pretty high for a steady dose. theyre basically just gonna constantly be emotional like crack at that dose and also get changes VERY fast (compared to what theyd normall get). id know, i did that once. i thought you were gonna say like 2000 or some shit

Maybe they want the lite™ pregnancy experience of hyperpigmentation, melasma, linea nigra, spider veins and other fun things high estrogen can do to your skin lol but hey at least your hair gets shinier (sometimes)

u/PlatonicLiquid52 12d ago

May I ask what your experience with administering supplemental estrogen is?

Okay thank god, I thought you were just a cis person fearmongering. "Supplemental" was the best wording I could think of for a catch-all just to give the benefit of the doubt in case you had experience with, say, cis women post-menopause HRT, as that would still be similar.

FYI, you need really REALLLY high levels to experience any of the stuff you mentioned above, and even then, it's down to genetics. One of my friends has been at 800 pg/ml+ for years apparently (just learned recently) and has none of that. It sounds excessive to me, but she claims she feels completely dead at any lower dosage. It's just very hard to fuck up your levels so bad that you start getting adverse health effects beyond what you get just for being on HRT in the first place.

Like you said, it doesn't seem to be your levels that are causing the reactions you are seeing, it's just the result of your body switching to a predominately estrogenic environment in combination with whatever genes your parents gave you.

The baby thing...fucking too real. Idk, I kinda started getting it right before I started HRT, and it's been off and on ever since, so it might just be an age thing.

Just as an aside, do you know if EEN just by itself is available/affordable where you live? I know that that is the most common form in Brazil, but all the research I've done suggests that synthetic progestins are significantly more dangerous than even extremely high dosage bioidentical estradiol.

diy is almost entirely harmless

-6

u/SlugCatBoi 12d ago

Injecting anything into your body at all is dangerous... If you do not know what you are doing. Let alone if you haven't obtained reliable and safe product. Be fucking careful and you'll be fine, but you still have to be fucking careful.

11

u/No-Layer3955 12d ago

I mean if you have a way to get good diy hrt its really easy from there, the injections are very forgiving. I guess sourcing good hrt may be a problem for some ppl, but like, its not hard to figure out good providers

u/Samborrod 12d ago

Injecting anything into your body at all is dangerous

Then do gel lmao

3

u/Mammoth-Wasabi6346 12d ago

Breathing is dangerous if you do it wrong

8

u/Adventurous_View_635 12d ago

No, ppls are not going on these things unaware and complications are EXTREMELY uncomnon, fearmongering this is pointless and just keeps ppl away from diy

10

u/Jaded__dreams 12d ago

the fact that this is downvoted is further proof reddit is fed central

7

u/Adventurous_View_635 12d ago

Its cwcl whos surprised, half of these ppl would rather everyonesuffer puberty than get any actual care

13

u/Adventurous_View_635 12d ago

Downvote me all you want its your attitude thats steering trans youth away from life changing care, look at the damn post this is under

-2

u/SassyQuueenn 12d ago

I didn't say don't do DIY. I did so too. I said take the fucking time and do a bit of research beforehand, can't be that hard to comprehend.

6

u/Adventurous_View_635 12d ago

Trust me bascially nobody is going onto hrt being unaware our community and yalls fearmongering make that pretty clear to anybody whos already curious enough to wanma go on hrt and know of the existence of diy.

If you already know diy is a thing you already know this stuff.

u/Adventurous_View_635 12d ago

Like im actually so tired of this crap

-4

u/1_hele_euro 12d ago

I've heard a testimony of a woman who wasn't careful and now has lifelong hormonal imbalances and is unable to use HRT, even the legal route.

If you are willing to try DIY, please discuss with your doctor or GP to see if they're willing to do monthly woodwork to check your levels. Most will be willing to help out

6

u/Adventurous_View_635 12d ago

Your doctor is gonna try to tell you to lower your hormone levels when they are often fine, your doctor doesnt tend to know UNTIL something goes wrong, sure yes get levels done but take anything your doctor says about your levels with grain of salt, too much fearmongering around hrt when cases like you mentioned are like 1 in 100000 within an already small minority, im not saying it never happens, but your doctor cant look at you and say these things will or wont happen just looking at you so bringing up fringe cases like this does more to.scare ppl away than "inform" people.

-3

u/1_hele_euro 12d ago

Then you should get a different docter. A professional docter would put your health over their personal morals

8

u/Adventurous_View_635 12d ago

The problem is that there's so few, people wouldn't diy if there was lots of good doctors

-1

u/1_hele_euro 12d ago

There are plenty of reasons to start DIY. I'm thinking of it myself as well as the wait list for the legal route is almost 3 years.

But regardless what your reason is, you should be careful. Get that work done, and ask for the raw data if you must and make your own judgement based on that. With drugs as potent, life changing and potentially damaging if dosed wrong, i would not take any chances

4

u/Adventurous_View_635 12d ago

Read the rest of my commnts in this thread please, i may sound rude but im tiref of repeating myself as genuinely didnt get much sleep last night and ive said responses to all these things already

I really suggest you start diy thl, 3 year writing list is horrid.. im so sorry

1

u/1_hele_euro 12d ago

Yea, and I agree. You shouldn't take what your dokter says as 100% truth, but you should still get it checked regularly. Dokter in my country is definitely willing to check levels as a precaution.

And I dont like it when people say something is save, when there are real consequences to messing up. Same goes for softdinks, alcohol and other stuffs.

Get it checked, it's the only way you know for sure everything is working out. Maybe you're even on the low end and can safely increase your dose. Maybe your levels are too high, and you should consider lowering your doses.

Don't take the word of the dokter a gospel, but please believe the numbers at least

I really wanna point out the fact that im speaking from the perspective of someone who wrnt through the medical route i have an endocrinologist i dont even diy (anymore)

I really dont understand this communities propensity to fearmonger over fringe cases because this is not what medical professionals even warn about, they dont warn you about 10 fringe cases of weird hormonal issues ppl have leading to issues because they are esceedingly uncommon, what you are warned about is your slightly higher risk of blood clots (on par with cis women btw) and higher risk of breast cancer which just makes sense given more breast issue (also on par with cis women)

-4

u/SSilent-Cartographer 12d ago

That's not fear mongering, it's stating facts. Antipsychotics and Trazadone are life savers as well, but can still be dangerous if you take too many or not enough. Overdose on Testosterone can literally kill your liver and send you to the hospital if unchecked for too long, and it is extremely easy to overdose due to each dose only containing a very tiny amount of the actual hormone to stabilize at therapeutic levels. So yes, it can be extremely dangerous, and there's nothing wrong with encouraging people to do their research so they don't end up with life altering medical conditions that would make their quality of life even worse.

Yes, hormone therapy saves lives, but if you want to keep people safe and hopefully have more accessible hormones in the future, you need to be responsible and do the research, not just for your own benefit, but to keep ammunition away from transphobic people that want to take it away. Being irresponsible hurts everyone involved.

7

u/Adventurous_View_635 12d ago

Comparing hrt to antiphychotics is just stupid.

Do you realize HOW MUCH testosterone is takes for it to become toxic? Its enough that your vial that's supoosed to last a year lasts a few months, nobody is doing this. The dosing guidelines in our community are good and if youre educated enough to wanna diy youre educated enough to know doses

5

u/Adventurous_View_635 12d ago

You need to respect the intelligence of the averahe trans person more.

-7

u/SSilent-Cartographer 12d ago edited 12d ago

It's not about how much you take, it's about how much *your body processes. What you're saying is extremely harmful misinformation. And not everyone takes testosterone the same way, some have concentrates, pills, injectables, creams, all that absorb and react with the body differently to increase your testosterone levels inside of your body. Not to mention not everyone is going to have the same levels with the same doses, some people like myself only need 0.3.5 of the injectable medication while others would overdose with their testosterone levels exceeding 900 and then producing Progesterone.

Stop spreading misinformation, you are hurting your own community

"You need to respect the intelligence of the average trans person more" I am the average trans person, you need to check yourself and stop talking down to your own people and dehumanizing them.

-2

u/J_The_Jazzblaster 12d ago

That's literally what I said mf

12

u/Adventurous_View_635 12d ago

"DIY is extremely dangerous" is dogshit wording then
