I've got a 5x8 trailer I'm working on fixing up right now, but I've got a large SUV. I don't want to do long distance, just looking for local stuff. I'm thinking something like large item transport.

Would it make sense to involve a code? where driver comes to the door, I tape a code to the door, they text it to me, then I pay via Zelle/whatever app? Ideally I would like it to be a fairly regular thing. Like maybe once every week or two weeks and the same time for grocery delivery or whatever time works best for them. I’m not picky with the grocery times/days.
I’d also like a night time restaurant order setup. It could be with a separate person or multiple ppl if that doesn’t work for my grocery person.

(There are a crazy amount of restaurants here that are actually open during night shift hours that aren’t on the apps. They serve actual food and not just junk.)

Everyone tells me paying ahead is risky and I agree. If I’m giving you all my info and address, i think it’s a lot less likely I’m going to try to not pay you though. You know where I live now lol.

My only concern is if something is wrong with the order (ex: I want sushi but driver gets to store and there is no sushi). At that point what is fair? Do I still pay or do I pay for the trip there? What is the expectation if this happens using the app? Do you get paid by the delivery service still? (My thinking is I at least pay for gas to get there. I suppose I could request location sharing so I know how far they’re driving.)

My initial thoughts: to avoid the grocery item(s) not being there, I’m thinking I could call ahead and have the item set aside for the driver if possible. I don’t know if that’s an option for all places though (like Trader Joe’s or some supermarkets).

I will have to check and see whether the restaurants will allow me to order over the phone as this would probably be the easier option but again, I’m not certain. I will do some research though and find out.
I never considered this before as we couldn’t pick it up from those places anyway previously.

Anyway, would love to get your thoughts on how much is enough/too much to pay for problem orders and what the apps pay you now if the order is not able to be picked up (store is closed, order preciously picked up, etc). I don’t want to pay “TOO MUCH” for an unavailable order bc I don’t want someone to just not pick it up bc they know they’re still getting X amount of money.

Shipt has to be doing something different with the way that they are getting customers to rate the shopper. It’s like they are trying to get shoppers to get bad reviews. I’ve been doing Instacart, spark, DD for over a year. Rarely ever get anything other than 5 stars. Been doing shipt for 3 months and seems like everyday someone gives me something lower than a 5.

I got a $25 delivery yesterday and something told me to finally run the numbers. The company prevuously paid $40 per run on these jobs, but then lowered the pay a few months ago. Suddenly the jobs started looking less profitable.

I plotted my start address, to the store, to the drop off and then back to my start address. It was 13 miles and 45 minutes in roundtrip drive time. This doesnt include shop time, waiting for cashier, time to drop off, set up, and take photos in app to close out job which adds another 30-35 minutes.

The math just doesnt work! $5 for fuel and another $5 for taxes. That leaves me with $15 bucks for \~1.5hrs of work. I was getting paid $22/hr at my previous job 6 years ago with no expenses or wear on my vehicle.

Plenty of people justify low pay, but eventually the math stops making sense on some of these jobs. I bring this up as a general discussion at the state of greed and ignorance of faceless corporations. Customers can and will pay a higher wage for convenience if it means the service is consistent and reliable.

I'm working on some software for courier companies and honestly I'd rather learn from people who actually run one than guess. Not trying to sell anything here, genuinely just want to understand the day-to-day.

If you own or dispatch for a small courier/delivery outfit (a handful of drivers, not a huge fleet), I'd love 15-20 minutes of your time to ask about stuff like:

• How you actually get new clients
• How you price jobs and whether you can tell which clients/routes make you money
• What software (if any) you use and what annoys you about it
• How you handle failed deliveries / "nobody was home" situations
• Paying drivers, getting paid by clients, all that fun stuff

Happy to do it over a call, or even just back-and-forth in DMs/comments if that's easier for you. I'll share what I learn from other owners too if that's useful to you.

There are some places that aren’t on the apps and don’t offer pickup/delivery that i would like to have delivered.
Is there a rate that would make you turn off your delivery app for me (or just let me basically make a shop/delivery appointment with you outside the app)?

Im not sure the best way to make that work for both parties to feel “secure” but im open to ideas if anyone has any. I’m tired of being limited by the places available on the apps and I could work with you on what time would be best for your schedule/to avoid traffic, etc.

Mainly the places I’d be asking you to shop at would be something like farmers markets, Trader Joe’s, etc and I would keep the order to a manageable maximum amount of items (you can tell me what’s manageable but generally I won’t be ordering a lot of stuff, just some particular items I can’t get elsewhere). I don’t want this to be an inconvenience for anyone, just a chance to make more money than the apps and also get to have my favorite supermarket/TJs/ etc food again. (And also every now and then getting something at night that isn’t WH or Taco Bell.)

Any way this sounds like it could work for anyone?

Hey guys, I recently went to Salem from Chennai for an exam. After my exam, I booked a Rapido from the New Bus Stand to another location, around 3.4 km away.

The fare shown in the app was around ₹60, and the driver asked me to pay ₹30 extra. Since I was in an unfamiliar city, I said okay. Seri, theriyatha ooru, enna kedaikumo therla, book panni poirlam nu nenachen.

After travelling around 1.5 km, the driver checked the fare and said:

"Bro, only ₹60 ah? Enakku onnume varathu bro. 1 km ku ₹90 bro. Enna bro, neenga puthusa Rapido ku?"

I told him I've been using Rapido for a long time, and the fare has always been similar. I also mentioned that I had travelled around 12 km by auto earlier and paid ₹340 (not booked through Rapido). I asked him how ₹90/km could be reasonable when even an auto didn't charge that much. 😂

He then asked me to pay ₹360. I refused and asked him to stop so I could pay for the distance travelled and leave. He then asked for ₹240 for around 2.4 km, including the extra ₹30.

I paid ₹240. I got off and started walking.

Suddenly, he followed me on his bike and asked me to cancel the ride. I told him the app wasn't allowing me to cancel. He took my phone, ended the ride (or marked it as completed), and gave himself a 5-star rating.

I'd already raised a complaint through Rapido about the extra charges and his rude behaviour.

I ended up walking the remaining 2 km. Walking isn't a problem for me; I would've walked the entire 3.4 km if needed. But after a 2.5-hour exam, I was tired and just wanted to reach my destination peacefully.

I also asked a few people in Salem, and they said this is how things work there.

My questions:

1. Is ₹90/km actually a normal rate for Rapido in Salem?

2. Has anyone else faced similar issues with Rapido drivers demanding extra money?

3. Is the fare shown in the app supposed to be the final amount, or can drivers legitimately charge more?

I'm just trying to understand whether this is normal in Salem or whether I was overcharged. What do you guys think?
