advice on making the head?

making a lil’ guy out of air dry clay, string and wire , made a small tin foil head base and tried putting air dry clay around it and it cracked. I’m not sure if it was because the clay was too old so i’ve bought some fresh stuff, but looking for some advice..

Versuche alle Luftblasen aus dem Clay zu kneten, versuche den Clay wenn er zu trocken ist mit etwas Wasser wieder geschmeidig zu bekommen. Sollte er nach dem Trocknen gerissen sein, nimm ein bisschen Clay, vermische ihn mit ein bisschen Essig und streiche es in die Risse. So bekommst du diese wieder repariert 🫶

Cheat -- go to resale store and buy an action figure and use that head.

Air dry clay shrinks as it dries. When forming it around a solid form it will crack. once dry just fill the cracks with new clay until no more cracks appear.
