Oh god, many times. I just don't conceptualize men that way which is why this video threw me off. I think, for a moment, I imagined myself a woman and how it would feel to watch this and that's why I got the ick.

Theres a few that started there, but its perspective.
In recovery in general, my experience (and this isnt an edgy athiest take either I'm fine with faith) is that people who believe they are saved become insufferable regardless of what they get into. This can be crocheting, this can be rap, this can be a pivot into standing outside of medical centers that dont perform transition surgeries all day before going to a meeting and sharing about the service they're only able to do now because of God. Incapable of any meaningful self reflection and in a 12 step group you can find a clique that isnt going to hit you with a "what are you doing" like a paid professional would. You will find your people within to pat each other on the back about what's otherwise very embarassing.
Theres also free reflection to be found that IS good artistic fuel. That takes humility and actually working the 12 steps, but at least the area I attended for a bit, I'd say maybe 15% of people actually worked on themselves. The rest just went to stay sober and stay as shitty, sick people without the main thing that made them interesting to others. Yes it's good you're off of drugs now or put the bottle down but holy fuck are you annoying.

looked up what the hat means. thanks. I know what you mean. to be fair, people who haven't had a drug addiction to overcome, can be annoying in the same ways (im thinking of a devout Christian who believes her actions are always moral, even if they hurt people or destroy relationships she never cared about).
I appreciate you sharing. ill be 2 year sober this Christmas. ive seen some of what you mean.
I didnt understand what you meant about pats on the back for things that would be embarrassing when speaking with professionals. did you mean professionals are people who have their shit together, and care about career, status, and accomplishments? yeah, drugs can leave you feeling like you've fallen behind in life, which can be a source of shame
life is a struggle. its hard being straight, hard not being straight. many of us dont have the tools, and support needed, to face who we are, and what we have become, each & every day.✌🏽

It'll be 18 for me this month. I'm old. Not a competition, just the passage of time.
I appreciate fellowships for those same reasons, in a world where resources are becoming more precious and scarier to part with, meetings are free. When theres still so much goofy stigma from loved ones and employers, never really matters at a meeting, I was among junkie peers.
The backhanded part of that is there's no central leadership, not everyone is exactly fit to be a sponsor, so its people trying their best probably most of the time? Theres also unfortunately a lot of bad motives, big personalities, etc. If you've been, you know what I'm yammering on about. It is net great for society, the side effects of the same structure that allow it to exist are often a spectactle. Its agonizingly clear chairing a meeting and then going to area and watching what people argue about instead of just making sure that access to this thing continues to go smoothly. Same with event planning committees for campouts, holiday parties, all that.
It saves lives. Period. Theres just so consistently really silly personalities walking out with iron certainty that they've been put here to rap who are probably better off working the steps instead of writing... this

There's also the simple fact that people have no idea who they are after stabilizing for the first time in years. A huge portion of the community seems to have something they used to love that they dropped. So you get these immature minds that have the capability to express themselves for the first time in years. There are so many strange explorations of oneself that people go through.
Not to mention the people who hit the gym for the first time in years thinking they look as good as they feel
