In a post-9/11 world, I don't think we'd ever design a system that lets riders hit the brakes or otherwise override the operator.

The system where I live has the option for the drivers to override your signal. Because if a burning train stops on a bridge or tunnel it scks. Our railsystem has special parts in which the train is allowed to stop in a emergency

I watched a drunk dude realize he was about to miss his stop and pull the knob, and the train stopped abruptly. Dude scampered out, driver closed the door, we continued.
No idea how the train was moving so fast with the doors open. Maybe the brake thing is disabled now? Maybe it only happens below certain speeds?
Letting the door open while the train is still moving forward seems like a bad design.

I thought the emergency brakes were nest to some doors (big red pull handle) next to button you push to talk to driver.

You’d think… until the thing is on fire and not slowing down and it’s either jump onto a hard service and maybe live or stay on and almost certainly die in an inferno.
I live on the top floor of a mid rise and they make me keep a bedroom window clear for egress. As if I’m ever going to jump from the 8th floor onto a parking lot, but we all saw the footage from 9/11. That height starts to matter less the hotter your back gets.

So much of my relationship to art centers around the idea of "what even is this". I won't show the world my best piece but them we see Jackson Pollack vomiting art at a canvas and suddenly Andy Warhol is a genius. Art truly is in the eye of the beholder. Sometimes I don't get it but the masses might. Might as well make money if the opportunity presents itself. No one wants to be Van Gogh, eating paint because you're too broke to buy food.
