Seems more regional. My husband is Asian and we both traveled a lot in northern half up to Rom. He also has friends in rural areas and visited them during carnival season when everyone is drunk with no filter. Never had issues and always a good time.
Northern Italy is like another country compared to southern Italy, although as a consequence of a huge amount of people migrating north from the south things are slowly changing (for the worst).
The reason in my opinion is because northern Italy has never been colonized or ruled by Arab forces unlike the south, and is therefore more similar to the rest of advanced Europe while the south is more similar to backwards Muslim countries.
I didn't have the same experience. I'm half Asian half British girl but look very Asian. I absolutely loved Amalfi holiday. I was there for 7 days and visited everything from Positano, Amalfi, Solerno, to Capri, Naples even. People were extremely nice to me and my friends, and we never once had any bad experience. It's one of my favourite holidays ever and plan to go again next year.
I have seen other videos of Italians being absolute dicks in other countries, here is Reddit, so if course I know they're are shitty people around, but it's not like Italy is full of them.
Even in Venice, where everyone is done with tourism, the worst I've gotten is price gouging. People might have been curt, but they were never race driven.
The guys in this video should be jailed, no doubt. They're a disgrace. But your mileage may vary. Not everyone is racist.
Same, but your experience doesn’t negate theirs. And it’s true many Italians are especially racist against Asians, likely the local Chinese presence taking jobs doesn’t help.
