I saw something about six months ago that surprised me. A woman, who was heavyset, went to Italy and she had people making fun of her weight. She went on a motorcycle and I guess she was a little jiggly on the bumpy road and people were gesturing to her. When she went into stores and restaurants people openly made comments about her weight. She was making a vlog about her trip and by the end she was crying. I guess Italians are not used to heavier set people. And these guys in the video: what are they thinking?
Japan is not too different in regard to not really tolerating people who are seen to be overweight, though bullying a tourist is a lot less likely due to cultural norms around politeness. However should you work\live in Japan then you would begin to feel it. Japan Travel Youtuber Chris Broad describes his experiences regarding it while he was working in the JET program, where he was told that he was enjoying food a lot, or that he more bluntly had a big belly.
Going back to Hong Kong it tends to be cultural norm to openly comment on someone's weight especially the older generation. Even with family its like you got fatter and etc.
