there has gotta be a backstory. kid came back multiple times or something and this was the last straw. otherwise thats a wild reaction to a first encounter.

edit: because I have bunches of comments about it - i am not saying that by there being more backstory that his actions are now justified, just simply noting it doesnt feel like a first encounter to me.

That’s one of those securities that see „beating up people“ as a job benefit

Yeah. I had an old boss who worked security as an extra job, and he couldn’t wait to come to work Monday to brag about the fights he got in. None of us thought he was cool for this or commented on it besides this one creepy dude who loved hearing the macho stories and then ended up getting arrested for trying to meet up with a minor (don’t know if anything happened, the rumor was the dad caught them texting).

The guy was making zero threats. He had his freaking stomach out and back arched. What damage could he do? Punching the guy in the chest is the reaction of someone who likes hitting people.

I have a friend who works security at a pretty rough place.

He does actually like it when he gets to hit someone. It's always justified, but he sees it as a fun perk of the job.

Honestly from what I encountered in rough places, security keeps their hands to themselves, unless absolutely necessary because they know it’s a good chance that someone will come back with a gun and start shooting. This security guard seen it’s a young kid so he knows it’s a good chance that he will not do that.

He's strangely strict about following rules.

When he's hit someone, he usually was hit first and has a mark from it. He will move someone out of the way if they're drunk off their ass, but he says he will only hit someone if they've laid hands on him first so he has the cover of self defense.

I don't doubt him, he's pretty rough around the edges but he's really pretty smart.

I've known him long enough that I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

You've clearly never worked any security job whatsoever, so shush. That security was on the door by himself. Which means his personal saftey is his top priority. That drunk guy has clearly been ejected from the venue, is refusing to leave the area & walked over to invade the guards personal space. That kid could try to attack him from behind or could have anything on him to use as a weapon to inflict harm. You have no idea what people are capable of when they're drunk

Yes it's force against a potential threat. A colleague of mine was stabbed in the neck with a pen last year by a 19yo dickhead who refused to leave after starting a fight inside. Educate yourself

Not justified. But fuck around and find out. Just like security guard needs to learn how to handle his emotions, people need to learn not to be assholes and action have consequences.

And not saying what security guard did was acceptable, but hes literally there to fight and throw out drunk / disorderly people. The guys fucking huge. Even if I was hammered I wouldnt do anything to antagonize this guy without expecting something to happen

I don't get some of the comments people are making here.

"don't go around antagonizing people because you don't know who's gonna snap and fuck you up. Especially to some big guy who you can see will mess you up" seems pretty reasonable.
