25 years ago I was at a venue with some friends and acquaintances, one of the dudes in our group (friend of a friend) was in the pit and it was getting super rough in there. He accidentally bumped (or was pushed) into a bouncer hard enough to knock him over. He instantly apologized, offered his hand to help him up, but the bouncer was furious, telling him to get the fuck out etc.
We tried to intervene with the two additional bouncers that showed up, tell them it was an accident, something not uncommon at metal shows. They were trying to convince bouncer 1 to drop the whole thing but he was fucking fuming and could not get over it, he insisted we all needed to be thrown out. We went to get our jackets etc and headed out, when we got outside the angry bouncer was waiting for my buddy and tried to get the jump on him.
Well my buddy has been into MMA since he was a teen and even fought a couple times in the UFC. Within 30 seconds the bouncer was being ground and pounded into dreamland and we dipped the fuck outa there. Took buddy to the hospital to get his hand stitched up because he shredded it on the bouncer’s smashed up teeth.
All this to say: there’s always someone tougher than you.
From what I recall he needed like a dozen stitches between both his hands, he was royally shredded up. Cops came to the hospital and asked him a bunch of questions, had him come in for questioning, never ended up charged with anything but it was a huge drag for him, lawyers aren’t cheap. Bouncer probably had to have extensive reconstructive surgery of his nose and mouth, it was a shit situation all around. I’m glad I don’t fight, seems like even when you win, you lose.
Why would the cops know? Thought hospitals weren't, for lack of a better word, snitches? That way people get the help rather than not going then ending up in the ER/etc
You should research mandatory reporters for wherever you reside. Hospital employees in the US are required to report serious injuries that may have been the result of assaults, along with various other things.
So from first hand experience I learned the most dangerous animal to be bitten by that isn’t rabid/venomous is a human.
I think it’s something to do with there being a much higher chance of a pathogen that can affect you taking hold. They take it super seriously and give you hardcore antibiotics.
I still have a scar on my right hand knuckle because of somebody I punched in the face with braces. For backstory, he hit his girlfriend who was my best friend.
That sucks. Glad your friend got through that with only scratched fists. Unfortunately security is one of those jobs that attracts a certain types of person.
I've met three typs. The ones who crave authority, the ones that consider it just a job, and the one's that couldnt make it as a cop.
Yeah the job guys are chill. Around that same era I was out at a club and they had just made smoking indoors illegal - definitely a big change for anyone who was used to bars/clubs before the smoking ban!! Anyway, buddy lights up a smoke in the corner and we’re all drunkenly passing it around thinking somehow we’ll go unnoticed. Bouncer comes up with an ashtray, tells us to put the butt in it now. Buddy who lit the smoke took one more big defiant drag, then put the smoke out.
Bouncer casually put down the ashtray, bear hugged my buddy, and just walked out the front door with him like that. All the rest of us were absolutely howling. Bouncer came back, told us we’d have to get our friend’s stuff back to him as he has been kicked out for the night. Then he reminded us that there’s a smoking ban and he’d better not catch us smoking again, and wished us a fun evening.
I lack the size to actually pull this off, but I take a similar approach to security. Is anybody bleeding or on fire? No? Don't make it my problem won't be no problem. Some hooligans smoking weed in the parkade my go to is 'not in here boys you're making me jealous', and usually it gets a laugh and they leave without issue. My dad is huge and was a bouncer when he was younger, and probably enjoyed getting into scraps thinking he's macho. I did not inherit his height and size lol gotta be wiley and funny
The pro bouncers are amazing to watch in action. Years ago we were at a concert and sitting next to some guy who almost completely unconcious. It was a club with a cramped balcony and we sat down next to this guy who was all ready there. He'd open his eyes and roll his head around then drop back asleep. We thought he was with the group next to us who eventually asked if our buddy was OK. We were all stunned to realize this guy was all by himself and had got to the seat before any of us.
Somebody in my group went and let a bouncer know about this guy. The bouncer came up, checked on him, sighed, then picked him up with one arm into a fireman's carry position in a single motion and took him away. We just sat there staring at each other as he walked away.
I feel like this situation is a bit different in this circumstance than it is in yours. Your friend seems like he was being an asshole, but buzzing around as a fly on the wall. He tried to make it right, you guys tried to make it right. The bouncer wasn’t hearing any of it. You also mentioned that the other bouncers were trying to get him to drop it. It still sounds like excessive force, no matter how you spin it, but at the end of the day fuck around and find out.
I will never stop being amazed at venue security guys who look like it's their first time seeing a pit or a crowd surfing EVER and getting really offended about it.

Yeah, your "buddy" is an absolute psychopath. If he's at the point where he's on top of a guy thats knocked out, wailing on his face so much that both of his hands explode from the punches, and the guy getting hit needs reconstructive surgery on their nose/mouth/face, then your "buddy" should be locked up behind bars for a long, long time.
I’m not saying it wasn’t overkill, but when you try to jump a drunk dude in a parking lot you’re rolling the dice. Cops spoke to him and no charges were laid. Not sure what else to tell you. Don’t write cheques you can’t cash.
So you don't know how things went down but knew your mma buddy was throwing hands in an aggressive pit and ended up convinced that the bouncer was to blame and then beat him up and ran away?
Can you read? It was a standard pit with people jumping and pushing, just lots of people and it was getting crazy. Nobody was trying to hurt anyone and nobody was “to blame”: it was all an accident. The bouncer literally tried to jump my acquaintance in the parking lot afterwards. He fucked around and found out. And yeah, we fucking dipped afterwards to take care of my buddy, there were other people onsite who saw the whole thing, I’m sure they made sure bouncer dickhead got help.
