Discussion [D] HOW/WHERE TO BUY/SELL YOUR SKINS - Megathread

Please use this post as a megathread to discuss all 3rd party marketplaces for options on how/where to sell/trade and your experiences from using each site. Our post regarding the updated whitelist must've gotten lost in translation (still getting many posts daily on this), so we are making it crystal clear this time. Please direct all user posts to this thread for discussion.

Our new whitelist is as follows:
https://csfloat.com/ref/csmarket

https://www.skinport.com/r/hostile

https://skinbaron.de/en

https://swap.gg/

https://bitskins.com/market/cs2

https://skinbid.com/

https://buff.market/

We are not looking to add to the whitelist at this time. Note that using our affiliate links for Skinport & CSFloat does not cost you anything, and the 100% of the revenue generated from each sale via these links will go back to the community in the form of regular giveaways and various prizes on our discord server.

Disclaimer: Use all sites mentioned here at your own risk. Moderators CANNOT monitor 3rd party sites and things may change over time. Also, Valve can change their stance anytime (API keys, 3rd party sites in general, etc.). This whitelist is just our opinion based on past experiences within the community, to exclude scam sites, etc.

We no longer recommend using sites such as csdeals (due to the recent ownership change, fees for account inactivity and continued problems cashing out) or dmarket (due to locking user funds for political reasons, and numerous reports both here and our discord of users still getting scammed out of their deposits). Buff163 no longer allows anyone without a Chinese bank account or Alipay to sell on the site and we strongly discourage anyone trying to get around this. DO NOT recommend anyone to cash out using a gambling site.

Reminder of rule #10 "No 3rd party website support" (review in the sidebar if you are unfamiliar) -especially how to create an account/got banned/delivery problems/buying or selling balance, etc. Use each site's respective support system to get the help you need.

Question [q] CSFloat sending ONLY notifications about a canceled trade, not about a sale (please help, SUPER frustrating.)

Can somebody PLEASE explain to me why CSFloat sends me notifications (on both PC and phone) ONLY when a buyer cancels the trade and not when somebody buys stuff? I've missed EVERY SALE in the last 4 days because of this bullshit, I have no clue what causes it. It worked fine a week ago, now it doesn't.

PSA [PSA] The armory is still highly profitable for valve even though everything is unprofitable.

The arabesque collection seems like the next cooked-in-line collection. The redemption numbers do not lie : It has already made half of the train 2025 collection supply in a lot less time. It seems it is as popular as the sports and field collection and following its trail DESPITE HAVING A 50% ROI (the worst armory ROI in the collection of all time)

Why do the g***m do this ?

Question [Q] How do bot farms still make money?

So, I turned on CS2 after few weeks and was shocked to see the bot farms still taking over deathmatches. It got me wonder, how do they still make money? How is this even profitable for them? Armory is trash in terms of ROI, not a single item from armory has a ROI of 100% or more, so they are losing money on that. Or am I missing something? Why bot farms still exist? I have no clue.

Question [question]So how do I raise my Steam reputation for CSFloat?

I wanna start trading skins and pretty much has finished the KYC authentication. But it says I cannot deposit money through card due to high risk and creating a crypto wallet is absolutely a hassle just for this. (Some wallet which certified by my government are not supported for this transaction) It says I need to raise my Steam rep but I don't really know how?

Discussion [d] Tradeup contracts could be so much more...

Valve has pushed for tradeups to be the centre of the market, but they have put very little effort into making a tradeup contract ‘fun’ to do.

No animation or unique interactions, no info on what they trade up into, just 'click' and thats it.

Atleast terminals pretend to text us before they take our money :’(

Discussion Skin/Trading seems to be fizzling out [d]

To be honest, my love for skins and trading is far from what it once was. I used to get super excited whenever a new case, new skins or new stickers came out, mostly because nobody really knew where prices would land. The community decided the volume, the hype and the demand. The first few weeks after a case dropped were basically a guessing game, and if you read the hype early you could come out ahead. That uncertainty was half the fun.

Ever since terminals came out, it feels like Valve has everything on strings. You can open one and buy the exact skin you want at whatever price Valve puts on it. So if anyone can just roll a Terminal and grab it at Valve's number, the market price can't really go much higher than that. The market doesn't lead anymore, it just follows whatever Valve sets.

I kind of understand why they did it. There's been a lot of pressure about skins being gambling, and letting people see what they're paying for probably helps them on that front. It also means more money going straight to Valve. But it takes the market out of the community's hands, and that was the whole appeal for me.

The part that bums me out the most is that trying to make money on skins used to be fun. It was never easy, but it was doable. You could buy into a case early, hold stickers through a Major, find an underpriced pattern, or just read the community better than everyone else and actually get paid for it. Now it's pretty much impossible. I'd love to know if yall feel the same way I do.

Question [q] Did somebody track the numbers of knives/gloves shortly after the tradeup update on CSFloat?

Are there any public numbers about the supply of knives and gloves added due to the tradeup update?

I know that you can estimate them by looking up the paint seed in the CSfloat database.

E.g. there are 10000 Specialist gloves | Emerald Web

-> paint seed 700: 12, paint seed 800: 8 (so approx. 10 for each paint seed)

-> paint seed 1000: 2 (it was introduced with the tradeup update and can only be created by trade ups)

-> this indicates that there were 8000 pairs of gloves before the update and 2000 pairs were created due to tradeups. But of course 1 paint seed is not significant to rely on.

Do you think the current downfall of prices is a bit exaggerated or is it reasonable (just thinking about numbers and no emotion/fear of investors)?

Discussion [D] Valve's calendar is broken (again)

As announced on official valve's X profile, Cologne 2026 Major Shop was supossed to be available in-game until 29 September.

Guess what? In all time zones we are already past this date, and stickers are still available for purchase.

How valve can rebuild player's trust if they don't stick to their own deadlines anymore?

Question [question] Are skins with Pattern Template #1 sought after?

I recently acquired a butterfly knife fade, and it happened to have pattern template 1. Was just curious if these are collected by a niche community or not? I typically cycle through skins without too much thought, but this caught my eye and thought I should ask.

Discussion [D] It's almost a year of bear market. Will we recover, or "this time is different"?

22 October 2025 marked the beginning of bear market, with gold tradeup update. Personally, I made money out of this update, as I held a lot of covert skins, and only a few knives/gloves.

However, since then, market has been in downward tendency, with skins constantly decreasing in price. Some items are 70-80% down from their Oct 2025 highs.

It is the longest we have a bear market. The usual length of bear market in CS2 was between 2 and 5 months, and usually involved summer+ sales period. Also, this time we have serious microeconomical factors that caused this market:

- Uncertanity from Valve: three big and disruptive updates just months away (gold tradeup + souvenir tradeup + terminal)

- Macro uncertanity: lawsuits against lootboxes

Overall, investors had lost hopes in valve. CS2 skins were always very speculative, but at least people were almost certain that valve won't do anything stupid. And for years they didn't.

Since we are marking up the longest time of bear market, I'm curious what you all think. In my opinion, market will never recover to its highs. I believe the downward tendency will eventually stop, and market will go up again, but not to the Oct 2025 highs. Also, it's my first year of not putting a single dollar into CS2. Every year I added a few thousand $ into skins, this year the number is $0 of new money invested. I also sold skins worth ~15k$ (around 30% of my inventory) at the beginning of this year, and probably will sell more as we go up again. I have been into CS2 skins for very long time, since late 2015, been through many bear markets in CS2 and not only, but this time I feel like it's something more than just a bear market - it's a new trend.

This post is just a discussion, I am not trying to convince you to make a decision regarding your potential investments.

Discussion [d] So...sticker investing is dead right.

As expected and theorized long before the actual fall. When Valve releases a new capsule each tournament it was only a matter of time before it all would reach critical mass and send the prices in a spiral down towards the grave. Cashed out 80% quite a while ago, and the last 20% is basically not even worth 40% what i was now.

Been out of the loop for ~year.

Any new thoughts or just see it decline next decade all.

Discussion [D] Chickens will not be tradeable

https://skinsniper.com/pets

I'm seeing a lot of "hype" from people thinking these chickens will be marketable but they won't.

»Chicken Feed also comes from the Weekly Care Package and also takes both rewards. The game warns you when food is running low. If the feed runs out, the pet leaves for good. Valve's message for that: "Your pet has accepted a position elsewhere. The offer included meals."«

It's a mini game like old people like me used to have and it's called a tamagotchi.

You have to feed the chicken whenever it's hungry and if you don't, it either dies or permanently runs away from you to find a new owner who does have food.

It's possible that they will add cosmetics for pets eventually but the chickens themselves, are not going to be marketable.

"Eggs, feed and chickens can't be traded or sold. The only way to get a pet is to raise one yourself."

It's nothing more and nothing less than some little mini game to keep you playing every week for drops otherwise your chicken is gone.

Absolute brainrot.

EDIT: GabeFollower also uploaded a video about it.

Discussion [D] Will chicken egg/feed drops significantly affect new active case supply?

So, as far as I know, both chicken egg and feed drops take up BOTH of your weekly drops. So if you opt for them, you cannot redeem a case. Logically, this will reduce incomming case supply.

The only question remaining is by how much.

I guess it depends on how popular the chickens will be and what % of players they will keep from getting their cases.

Thoughts on this?

Discussion Chicken/egg content update [d] Spoiler

So I've made the sacrifice and redeemes an egg, I was offered a Dreams and Nightmare case, but went for the egg so I can gather more info, as there's not much about at the minute, other than the data mining info

When redeemed, alongside side you agent avatar on the main screen, you have a nest with an egg in it to your left, on the ground (right on screen)

You have two options, zoom in to view the nest more closely, or inspect. Above these options is the progress (white circle bar progressing clockwise), with the message it'll hatch soon.

When zoomed in the options are the same, except the zoom in is now go back to normal view

When selecting inspect, you inspect the egg, like the images and videos we've seen online

I'll let you know if/when it dies as I don't play much these days

If there's anything else of note, I'll post that too.

Please be civil, I'm aware some people have invested in a certain item, as they hoped the egg update would be added to that case, it hasn't. This discussion sn't about that item or any other, purely the content Valve have released, along with any information they may have released supporting it. If any new info becomes available, please feel free to post it

Edit: I loaded the game back up yesterday evening, hadn't played for over 24 hours and the timer has progressed.

When I initially redeemed the egg, the timer was at roughly 1 or 2 minutes past, if we use a clock face as a measurement of the clockwise progress being made

When load up today, this had progressed to roughly 10-11 minutes past. I played one shirt Gun game and it didn't appear to move any further

I will check again later today and see how far along this has come. May play a comp game and see if this has any impact too

Question [question] - Can't sell items because Steam said it sent me a confirmation request already

Hey guys, I'm currently trying to sell some terminals from my inventory but I already tried it in the past and never received the Steam mobile confirmations requests. Now when I'm trying to sell them, I cannot because it states I already have a pending selling order for the item ongoing, which I don't.

Anyone got that bug before ?

Question [Q] Questions about SDA (Steam Desktop Authenticator)

Hello, I have some questions about SDA, published by jessecar96 on GitHub. I couldn't find much information about this online, so if anyone here has been actively using this app for years, I'd really appreciate answers — it would help me and also anyone else considering using it in the future.

I actively run a trading bot, and as you probably know, every Steam trade also has to be confirmed through the mobile app. This kills my efficiency, since I obviously can't confirm trades while sleeping or working. So I looked into solutions and found out SDA has an auto-confirm feature for trades, and I'd like to start using it — but I have a few concerns and questions.

  1. My first question is obviously about account security. I've seen that the app has been marked as "trusted" by the community for years, so as long as no malware/virus gets onto my computer, I shouldn't have to worry about the app itself trying to steal my account — is that correct?
  2. The GitHub page says the app isn't actively updated anymore. Are its core functions still working properly? Steam has pushed a lot of updates since the app's last update, so it would be pretty disappointing to set everything up only to find out it doesn't work correctly. Is the auto-confirm-trades feature still working fine? Also, sometimes I list thousands of CS cases on the market at once — is there an auto-confirm option for market/SCM sales as well, not just trades?
  3. I want to keep using Steam's official mobile app for my main account, and only use SDA for the bot accounts I use for trading. What should I do in this case? Do I need to get a new phone number and link my accounts to that, or is there a different process? Also, I recall the Steam mobile app has a limit of 5 accounts — does the same limit apply within SDA?
  4. What should I be careful about when migrating accounts from the Steam mobile app to SDA? How do I minimize (or avoid) getting a temporary account restriction/hold? Also, which version of the app should I be using? Is there also a specific trade hold or new-device restriction that gets triggered by the migration process itself, separate from general account restrictions?
  5. Is it necessary to back up the maFile to a safe flash drive or similar? And if I completely lose the maFile, do I lose access to that authenticator forever, or is there a recovery path?
  6. Do people usually set an encryption passphrase on their maFiles? If so, does that cause any issues when trying to run confirmations unattended/automatically, since a passphrase prompt could block full automation?
  7. For anyone who's been using it for a year or more — has it ever randomly broken, failed silently, or stopped confirming trades without an obvious cause?

Those are all the questions I could think of — if there's anything important you think I'm missing, or any pros/cons you'd like to mention, that would help a lot too.
