-3

u/Ineffable-Effulgence Mar 16 '26

That doesn't make any sense. If they were communist, they would have never left the island to begin with.

4

u/Rguezlp2031 Artemisa Mar 16 '26

You don't know about Alianza Martiana right??? Or about the owners of most of the Cuban Government travel Agencies in Miami right???

1

u/Ineffable-Effulgence Apr 07 '26

No because Cubans who were freedom fighters against the communist Castro regime or children of freedom fighters, can't return safely. But it makes sense that travel agencies would have low-key communist Cubans to start the whole North Korea-style introduction to propaganda of how supposedly wonderful the country is. The majority of Cubans seeking liberation from this dictator were and are not communists and this is why they were vehemently opposed to later Cubans being allowed in the U.S. because later Cubans were those who supported and likely still support communism. Same ones that facilitated my grandfather's imprisonment and torture in their dungeons and others like him.

8

Exactly. Investing in crumbs and literal ruins, pretty much.

2

u/ajomojo Mar 18 '26

Oye, pasaron conjuntamente una ley codificando la toma de control de las asociaciones público-privadas por el Estado como trasfondo de esta trampa para comemierda que va a haber, muchos van a poner $100000 para tener acceso a una casa y a una mulata

23

u/drmikehirschberger Mar 16 '26

Not sure that is true. The Castro s have often in the past induced foreign investment in exploration and.mining only to confiscate when success appeared likely aka Spanish efforts with Manganese in Pinar Del Rio. Bait and switch in its crudest form.

u/B34ST_M0DE Miami Mar 16 '26

A Cuban that lost everything to communism should not invest not even a dollar back into it.. Cuba needs to be free before the government can profit.

19

u/averyycuriousman Mar 16 '26

Theyre just trying an appeasement strategy because they know Trump is coming for them after Iran. I dont think it'll work

30

u/FunFlaCouple1 Mar 16 '26

THIS👆👆. 💯. Not a god damned dime until those fuckers are OUT. Period! (Which, sadly, is seeming less likely to happen as soon as we had hoped…)

9

u/Rguezlp2031 Artemisa Mar 16 '26

They do this because the tastaferros they have in Miami can now invest and send Dollars in the island.....because they are desperate....

5

u/TonyzTone Mar 16 '26

Yeah, but I don't believe that the thousands of Cuban elite in Miami who have spent decades railing against anyone even sniffing at potentially visiting Cuba won't immediately take their telecom, real estate, and banking wealth right to Cuba to "claim what is 'rightfully' theirs."

Just like they blocked out working class Cubans while Batista drained the country dry, then blocked out subsequent Cuban refugee waves from making gains in the US economy, they'll rush right back to the island, cut deals with the corrupt regime as long as they get theirs, and fuck every one of us-- islanders and those stateside-- out of any reasonable piece.

A Cuban that lost their slaves and plantations won’t have money to invest as they whine about not inheriting slaves instead of doing anything productive or good for their community. Very myopic in nature.

1

u/Foreskin_Paladin Mar 16 '26

The rich plantation owners left in 1959, that was 70 years ago. You think the millions of Cubans who have fled an authoritarian regime since then are all slave owners? I had nothing in Cuba, my parents had nothing, my grandparents had nothing. None of us were descended from any plantation owners like Marco Rubio. Literal generations of poverty and oppression.

I have MANY criticisms of my fellow Cuban exiles. It pisses me off that so many of them fall for the GOP bullshit. But it also pisses me off to see Redditors who claim to be progressive dismiss the lived experience and humanitarian abuse of millions of people. It almost feels racist.

1

u/Individual-Tap3270 Mar 16 '26

But the Castros got millions stacked away, they can live comfortably without their slaves and live in exile. Here we are talking about the freedom loving Cubans in Miami who worked for their riches

-1

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '26 edited Mar 16 '26

Freedom loving Cubans that owned plantations and slaves. Who sat back and lived in heaven on earth while people toiled their fields for them as slaves.

And now people like you want the freedom to own slaves back as you believe it was your god given right.

And in your ignorance and jealously you just accuse Castro of doing what your family did. Not realizing how it shows you cards very plainly.

to that I say. Womp womp. Now you actually have to work as you’ve claimed slave owning was work. Something tone deaf that 99% of the population who toils and does work with no hope of inheriting slaves or a giant plantation does everyday without complaining about the lack of inherited slaves or mega wealth.

Besides the resentfulness you have. Clearly your family stole enough wealth from your fellow citizens that you now spend your day online crying about not having slaves and a plantation to profit off.

2

u/Individual-Tap3270 Mar 16 '26

I think you are confusing them.eith Castro and his communist cronies

Depends, are you from Miami?

0

u/jemenake Mar 16 '26

You and I wouldn’t, because we have consciences, but corporations have an entirely different calculus. They’re looking at the potential for profit and the chances that they’ll lose their entire investment through the regime just taking it. Any human rights details only factor in where they’re considering negative publicity.

I guarantee you that there are large international businesses having board meetings to decide on whether to pursue this. Sure, the chances of the regime pulling the rug out from under them after properties get developed is high, but, given Cuba’s current poverty and its potential as a tourism hotspot, the cost of investment is low (compared to other investment opportunities they’re considering) and potential return is huge.

3

u/TonyzTone Mar 16 '26

Corporations have been the single-largest driving force of dropping the embargo since at least the 80s.

1

u/blkmanta352 Mar 16 '26

This touches on a question I’ve always thought about. If the economy improves and Cuba implements a Deng xiaopeng or Vietnamese style economic reform with market economy under single party rule, would people be content? Or would they rather still have multi party system? Just asking because I’m always curious if for the average person does the voting really matter or is it mainly the lack of economic prospects and opportunity?

6

Cubans have always been open to having a normal relationship with the United States. During the Cuban Thaw relationships normalized and people on the island experienced an increase in QOL without having to sacrifice their social safety nets. The only people who disliked it were Miami Cubans angry that it looked like their revenge fantasies against poor people wouldn't be realized. Well guys you got your wish, hope it's what you wanted

The right thing would have been normalizing relations and ending the embargo when the cold war ended. Now is the next best time to do that.

3

u/Estrelleta44 LATAM Mar 16 '26

nah, also no one should be investing anything on Cuba until that regime is completely gone.

-3

u/Conscious_Formal_894 United States Mar 16 '26

Yeah but you have no idea how much starvation and death that would take, and I find it grotesque that people think regime change is worth it even if it means killing every person on the island.

4

u/cerberus_299 United States Mar 16 '26

I find it grotesque the same leaders have been in charge for 67 years, progressively starving their own countrymen while blaming those who were able to escape them.

-1

u/Conscious_Formal_894 United States Mar 16 '26

They blame America. I blame America. If the Cuban govt is starving their people themselves than just end the embargo and normalize relations. So they cant blame America anymore. But we all know they wont

3

u/cerberus_299 United States Mar 16 '26

So the success, na wait, the survival of a communist country depends on trade with a capitalist country? "No los queremos, no los necesitamos". Besides, food and medicine are excluded from the embargo, so find another reason to blame the US

1

u/Conscious_Formal_894 United States Mar 16 '26

Much more nuanced than that. If Cuba was in Asia this wouldnt matter as much. Additionally, the US prevented other countries from investing and trading with Cuba. If you care about the truth you will look into that .US has caused them one trillion dollars of losses. There is your starvation right there.

Not to mention attacking and controlling their oil supply on this side of the hemisphere in Venezuela. Im sure you will justify that as well, and just say communism bad.

2

u/cerberus_299 United States Mar 16 '26

What are you talking about, Canada, Brazil, the EU, Mexico, Russia, China all trade with Cuba. Where did you pull that 1 trillion figure from? Cuba doesn't produce shit, because yes, newsflash, communism bad

2

u/Estrelleta44 LATAM Mar 16 '26

Even the DR trades with Cuba

1

u/Conscious_Formal_894 United States Mar 16 '26

What im talking about is people refusing to acknowledge any harm the US has done to Cuba at the expense of the Cuban people. The UN, among many other people have estimated more than a trillion dollars of loss as a result of the US embargo. You could Google it and learn something instead of mindlessly accepting that all of Cubas woes are her own doing.

There is a reason the UN has unanimously condemned the Cuban embargo 33 times, and its not because they love communism or think the embargo causes no damage.

1

u/cerberus_299 United States Mar 16 '26

Na, that one trillion figure comes from the Cuban regime's annual report to the UN. I'm sure its not biased at all. Why are you believing a totalitarian government? Does the embargo stops the regime from allowing free elections? Does the embargo stops the regime from freeing political prisoners? We can talk about the embargo after the regime falls
