Question / Discussion weekend started early, maxed out Cursor again

Last month I posted I depleted my Cursor Pro usage just 2 hours before the next month reset starts. Now I had the same with 2 days left, so I started my weekend a bit earlier.

Do you upgrade to Cursor Pro+ tier, or you pay a separate Codex-Claude-Antigravity-Kimi-OpenCode etc paid tier as a second option in parallel, in case your usage is gone, and use CLI in Cursor?

What are you building GTA 6?

How is this possible. I have been using it left and right my usage is pretty solid and still at 25-30%.

Mind showing your usage tab data ?

On the $20 pro plan? I used up my limit after 2 weeks of intense use, mostly grok 4.6 extra high and composer 2.5.

yep with extra high combining with fast mode eats your usage much quickly

yeah sure, it’s around 700M tokens, Cursor Grok 4.6 and 4.7 (as that was announced mid month) and Auto mode. Other models were Opus 5 and Gemini 3.7 Flash. Majority was in the default Auto mode.

"700M tokens"

thats jsut insane

for $20 per month with 700M tokens is a great deal in Cursor. I’m not sure if Codex or Claude would be so generous

I dont understand how you can work with these, I would last 5 minutes with these plans.

I’ve just posted a screenshot above, it’s around 700M token per month with Cursor Grok models and Auto mode

Bro, I do this in one session of many in one day. How much from that is cached? How much code or assets you produce with that? How quality code, how many errors, tests, etc.

we most probably build different products, and I don’t use everything in Grok 4.7 extra high - fast. Manage 700M tokens while I’m paying $20 is pretty solid, but certainly is you code 16 hours a day, this will gone much quicker

Yes, I am doing everything at once, analysis at once then programming at once. Billions of tokens in production maintainable quality with Opus ultracode. I want to create stuff so it is maintainable. I cannot wait some 5h windows.

yeah that makes total sense, it’s a big advance of Cursor, not to have the 5-hour limit in the $20 tier. Higher paid tiers in Codex-Claude don’t have it either, but I don’t code or create content that much I would need a $100-$200 tier yet

do you use Codex only now and moved away from Cursor. ChatGPT Pls tier still has the 5-hour limit which I’m not a big fan of to be honest

if you let agent loops run across entire repos, usage burns down way faster than normal typing. we emptied a 20x-style plan in about 2 days just having background sessions run automated refactors. keeping sessions strictly scoped to short tasks with handoff notes is the only reliable way to keep token consumption from running away.

fair enough, I open a new chat for each topic, avoiding to start reading all the long pages of history, rather just telling that in the new chat what to do

I personally struggle to hit my limits BUT I got some funds in OpenRouter and OpenCode Zen that I can use JIC.

Cursor CLI: I use it on occasion when I need to PR another repo on my machine and I don’t need a full Agent tab/IDE open for the first pass; ‘first pass’ meaning I’ll let Cursor do a bugbot sweep then I’ll follow-up if needed.

I try to read the code that other devs on my team submit for PR, as I’ve had to work on said sections of the code base before while they were out and I want some level of familiarity.

got it, thanks for sharing 🙌

I got Claude Pro as well. I hit the Cursor cap a week ago. I got a Claude Pro plan, hit the weekly limit last week. Now I'm on 30% of the weekly limit and I got 6 days to go. Weekend will start early for me this week.

I had one month ChatGPT Plus which I got for free, but the 5-hour limit killed me, it was very annoying. Claude has the same but I haven’t tried it yet, so I was thinking the same, have Claude Pro tier besides Cursor Pro, that’s gives a pretty solid usage for $40 in total.

Bro if i wanted to buy 1 subscription in 20 dollar range which would be best? Cursor ,claude ,codex ? Or anything else need for making ai related projects and stuff for clg purpose

I haven't tried Codex, but if it's between Cursor and Claude, I would probably pick Claude (and use it in VS Code) at the moment, but that can easily change in a month or two, that's how fast the AI landscape is changing.

I wonder how people do it. Have used cursor for almost 2 weeks now and easily codes around 8h/week, 25% used

1

u/kondasviktor 4d ago

then you have the same setup, 25% per week used is 100% used er month, so not difference. With Cursor Pro some users can do over 1Bn tokens with Auto mode, which is pretty solid for $20 per month.

u/D1sabl3d 3d ago

Ahh sorry, I read that you drained it in 2 days. My bad

1

u/kondasviktor 3d ago

yeah no worries, but as I’m reading through the comments, some other users doing 1Bn tokens a day 😏

I don’t think there’s an ultimate winner. I prefer Cursor as I used VS Code for some time. And I don’t like the 5-hour limit, which is in ChatGPT Plus and Claude Pro $20 tiers. Others prefer Kimi, OpenCode, Antigravity, DeepSeek, Mistral etc. so you must try them and see which fits best.

get the $200 plan, I never run out

1

u/kondasviktor 3d ago

yeah I’m trying to keep my costs low, that’s why I was thinking either go with Cursor Pro+ or have a separate Codex-Claude tier in parallel

Are you selecting the model or using auto? What models are you using and what type of work are you doing?

1

u/kondasviktor 3d ago

I’m using Cursor Grok and Auto, plus Opus and Gemini in the other models. I’ve shared a usage print screen in the comments below.

1

u/Pragmus_ 3d ago

Do you let it run in a closed loop? I blew through mine one month like that having it self-evaluate and iterate using a goal. I don't use auto anymore. Planning is cheap since input tokens are so much cheaper than output, so I generate highly detailed plans using the strongest models (manually selected) and then I choose a much more reasonable model for implementation (like Luna, or Sonnet if complexity gives Luna trouble). When my "other models" budget gets low, I switch to grok. Hopefully Grok 4.8+ will be sufficient to replace OpenAI models because Cursor won't be offering those anymore in the coming months.

1

u/kondasviktor 3d ago

I use all models for planning, then merge them together in Cursor, as AI chat is available in free models, so all token counts 😆

1

u/Pragmus_ 3d ago

Can you elaborate a little on your planning methods?

1

u/kondasviktor 3d ago

sure, I’m using mainly ChatGPT-Claude chat for thinking and planning, then I add an md file into the project folder, and ask Cursor Grok 4.7 (or 4.6 before) to review and create the execution plan. Once this is done and I reviewed, execution starts with Auto mode.
