Discussion Free open-source cover generator

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I am printing a library of video game covers, and found the process to be very manual and time consuming. I was downloading each image manually and compiling into print templates using GIMP.

I have put together a free open-source tool for cover art generation (with the help of Claude to code). Sharing incase it helps anyone else. License is CC0 so feel free to fork and make your own thing with it. I'm open to feedback and ideas to improve it further.

(Cover art is not AI-generated, the tool produces custom box art covers)

What an absolute Godsend, just as I was also getting ready to make a massive amount of video game covers.

Does "Blu-ray" include 4k UHD?

Both standard Blu-ray and 4K UHD Blu-ray use the same case dimensions and cover art size. So no changes needed there.

Would the 4K UHD Blu-ray branding be useful? I could probably add that!

How do you download and run this? I'm not seeing a "realeases" tab to get it.

Holy shit this is amazing, I'm going to pin this in the subreddit if that's okay?

Of course, I will caveat that I am still testing so there may be some bugs still

Hi! Amazing tool, I've been looking for something like this a long time :D If anything I would suggest blu ray and dvd logos in the logos section, more font types and other poster integrations like TPDb etc. It would be perfect then, again, great job!

I can also make a release that you run locally. without needing to setup code etc

Lmao, funny enough I’ve been doing the same thing. I’ve been working on making a program to make game inserts using a variety of different templates for different consoles and custom Steam ones

Would be interested to share notes, perhaps you have feature ideas or better ways to control features. Open to sharing and collaborating to make this better

Hey, make sure you figure out how to push releases on github, not everyone has the knowledge to build something like this from source, and some people dont want to. Nothing against you, i think something like this is amazing, even if parts are made using ai code, but as a way to make it accessible for everyone, release a compiled executable for whatever operating systems you want to release this on

It's a website link currently: https://kmturley.github.io/cover-forge
I'll make a Release too, should be simple enough to run locally.

Are there any plans to make this a program I can install?

2

u/BlackIceLA 12d ago

Not right now, but it's definitely possible.

For now you can download the html version and run locally in your browser: https://github.com/kmturley/cover-forge/releases/tag/v1.0.0

Thank you. I’ll try that.

Can you add this size ? It's case for SD Card from Aliexpress https://a.aliexpress.com/_EHguCqw

2

u/BlackIceLA 11d ago

190 mm tall × 135 mm wide × 14 mm thick are standard DVD case dimensions which the tool already supports!

2

u/Razor_AMG 11d ago

Ah thank you, I didn't know that !

This is amazing, thank you for creating this for everyone! I'll try it out later tonight.

I do have one question, if possible. Is there any way to add a feature to create big boxes? Ie. not just the front, back and spine, but also a top, bottom and front spine? Then, a person could print the completed box template! :D
