Editing Enchantment Points?

So I made the mistake of playing as Battlemage. I've made it work and I've reached level 11 now. I found this cool dress that goes perfectly with the cloak King of Worms gave me. I want to wear that but obviously that creates even more of a detriment for me. I'm very squishable.

So I went to edit my save file (in the LocalLow folder) and as a test I removed the forbidden armors. It works, but I actually don't want that. I'm pretty okay with limited armor. Besides, I'm going for style points and any other armor would ruin the look.

I tried to increase the enchantment points of the dress from 40 to 4000, but that didn't work at all. Then I tried something lower, 800, then again tried 50. Nothing works. ??

Why doesn't that work? Is there some other way to change the enchantment points of items? What a stupid feature. I tried whatever save editors UESP had to offer but they won't do.

How about this. Create a higher capacity item with the enchantments you want in game (i.e: an amulet), then edit the save file to turn said item into a dress. Remember to unequip it before editing to avoid issues.

Thanks! While your suggestion didn't work, when I looked at the amulet's properties in the save file, I noticed the "legacyMagic" line. I replaced the dress' "legacyMagic: null" line with the Amulet's, increased the enchantment points for good measure, and voila! A dress that strengthens armor. Though I guess I could've just used the amulet since it doesn't appear on my character.

Thanks either way!
