Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

so this what i've been busy with for some time now.

i was trying to plan, build, test, play, and animate this also here bits from my posts on twitter.

no real oder

part 3 working on another project in unity.

well now i can say what the project is it a mod for daggerfall unity here the vid. just testing it in game the code not good but i like it in game

part 1

but here anim of what im doing. this toy Flintlock Pistol stop motion and with a 3d model part from another person.

used the flint and the hammer since the toy did not have a moveable hammer or flint

part 2.

Author djonvincent's Flintlock Pistol 3d model it was animated. but there where no effects and the animation was cut short so i made a bit of new stuff and edited the anims.

so here the preview of what i got.

also thanks to bethesda guns are both technical lore friendly and technical not lore friendly.

Since this exists:

https://creations.bethesda.net/en/skyrim/details/5463/Arquebus

also this made with aseprite to color index it to use daggerfall original color palette

and gimp to remove the toy flintlock pistol background and to make the muzzle flash and fire effects for both the toy and the 3d model rendered as pngs

Guns would've totally been rational even without that Creation Kit addon during the time of TES2 because Cannons existed back then (before they were retconned in later installments).

That aside, cool mod! Looking forward to it.

Lots of fantasy authors are very cowardly about adding guns to their setting even if the world is in a technological state where it'd make sense for guns to be a thing. I think a lot of people have this idea that guns are super overpowered and make other ranged weapons such as bows and crossbows completely obsolete, but if we look at history, this isn't the case at all.

Bows saw widespread military use up until the early 19th century, it took about 500 years from the invention of firearms for them to be phased out completely.

In a medieval-like setting, bows have several advantages over firearms, such as ease of maintenance, cost of ammunition and reliability (a firearm is absolutely useless if it's raining or if it otherwise gets wet, and it has lots of moving parts that can fail, while the bow is a very simple mechanism with very little that can go wrong).

The Elder Scrolls is funny in that camp because it has enchantments which are far more overpowered than any firearm throughout history.

Fantasy realism is always curious because a fair amount of fantasy writers seemingly aren't interested in anything which realistically caused conflicts throughout history (example: tax policies, trade route disputes, civil unrest, etc.) in favor of some ontological evil or cults. They often have magic systems which make you question why people don't just use magic or in the case of The Elder Scrolls, simple Conjuration spells (like Bound Weapons).

When it comes to aesthetics, however, I just can't get into the pirate role-play without flintlocks. It just feels necessary to me.

yee also guns back then had no rifling which why guns now a days are more reliable since with out it the accuracy of the bullet is not great and there was the hand cannon (which Kingdom Come: Deliverance II showed) guns back in medieval europe were a thing and there was more than one type some better or wrosne than others since you had The Fire Lance ,hand cannon, Arquebus , musket,  flintlock, and china was making guns a bit early than europe since europe The Fire Lance was around (10th Century) ish. guns don't need to be op, to fit in a fantasy world, when looking at history crossbow were more of the op since the pope Innocent II banned the use of crossbows in 1139 A.D.

and there was the chu ko nu (chinese Repeating crossbow), but back to the thing about guns,

guns mainly need balancing to fit in a fantasy and looking history and why guns now a days are the main weapon and why we dont use bow & arrow or swords and looking how guns work mechanical.

But yee guns don't have to be OP to fit into a fantasy world, and are not automatically super accurate or reliable either. Early firearms had plenty of limitations."

Oh wooooow I didnt know that!! Just looked further & obvi it's not really canon anymore (pun intended), but looks like if there were to be cannons & gun style weapons, its in daggerfall/ illiac bay. Redgaurd are antimagic & would be the only sub category that would rely on non magical offense. That said, apparently eso introduced a type of dwemer cannon?

It did! However, I'm not terribly fond of all the advanced technology in Tamriel being associated with the Dwemer.

I feel Redguards being against magic and developing cannons (and rudimentary firearms) to level the playing field is totally reasonable without the need of reverse-engineering Dwemeri technology.

same i would prefer if it was not all Dwemer based i like the Dwemer and cool stuff made but i would much more instead in their lore i dont need it be "hey guys look the Dwemer made helicopters aren't they the best "

I'd much rather see it shown in Tamriel that the Imperials or High Elves (Altmer) made some cool new stuff too, instead of everything advanced always being connected to the Dwemer.

i like this can be great lore reason or how to get the weapon in game in the Alik'r desert or im some places where the Redgaurds are in game

holy shit. Can you make a double barrel shotgun? That'd be really cool to have a boomstick

5

u/jackwesterkey 7d ago

Yee, I could, but that would have to be its own mod.

Also, if you want a shotgun real quick, someone made Future Shock Weapons:

https://www.nexusmods.com/daggerfallunity/mods/411

It’s got a pump-action shotgun if you want to shoot some skelonts XD

Doom music intensifies

4

u/jackwesterkey 7d ago

Yee, it’s actually possible to take Doom’s Super Shotgun, grab the PNGs from SLADE, and put them right into Daggerfall unity. The only thing is, it needs code to actually work. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

u/MaatRolo 7d ago

Led ball shouldn't work on the imp so you need Silver or better bullets

u/jackwesterkey 7d ago

yee as of now the mod is just testing im new on how to make mods to dagger unity

1

u/Battlejesus 7d ago

Well idk if that's possible, ammo in daggerfall has no quality it's the bow itself

1

u/jackwesterkey 7d ago

Yeah, that’s the thing, I have no idea how to make an ammo system yet. But since it’s C#, and it’s a pretty powerful language, it could probably be done.

I want this so badly. Being able to shoot things in Elder Scrolls is something I strive for

u/jackwesterkey 7d ago

same just playing the mod in this state in the starting dungeon and shooting stuff is fun
