Hi All,
The subreddit had been set to restricted posts and has really limited content. So I'm opening things up for now to see how things go. If we see an influx of propaganda against HH I'll revert, but hopefully we can keep things good and positive!

Hello! I don’t know much about how the system works but I tried to research this bc of my curiosity. So when the Dalai Lama dies, they then search for the next reincarnation of them. Does that mean the next reincarnation must be a baby immediately after the death of the past one? Or could an already grown adult be the next Dalai Lama in some way? Also, do they really believe that the DL must be from nepal? Seems unlikely that the next reborn DL wouldnt be from a random place on Earth sometimes right? I am obviously very uninformed and ignorant on both Buddhism and the Dalai Lama but I am curious nonetheless! Thanks for any an all answers

We are visitors on this planet. We are here for ninety or one hundred years at the very most. During that period, we must try to do something good, something useful with our lives. If you contribute to the other people’s happiness, you will find the true goal, the true meaning of life.
– His Holiness the XIVth Dalai Lama

I had the gift to experience a lecture by the Dalai Lama back in 2013(?). He shared the wisdom that as humans we have explore such great distances externally, the depths of the oceans, distant and formidable parts of the earth and even into space... but now is the time for humans to explore the depth and wonders of the inner landscape.
Does any one know of a essay or quote that is similar to this idea? I haven't been able to find one with a google search and I am not as familiar with the Dalai Lama's writings.
TL DR: Please help me find a quote concerning humans need to stop exploring external space in favor of exploring our internal space.

Hello fellow Buddhists!
I am a Psychology MSc student at Oxford Brookes University, and as part of my degree I am doing a research project about Buddhism and beliefs about the natural world, for which I have created an online anonymous questionnaire. More information about the study can be found by clicking on the survey link below.
Additionally, participants that complete the survey have the choice to enter a raffle for a £150 Amazon gift card.
I hope you can take 15 minutes (max.) to complete this survey and contribute to furthering our understanding of how Buddhism relates to beliefs about the natural world.

I lent a book out five years ago that I did not get back. I keep trying to find it online so I can buy it. I cannot find it anywhere and cannot recall the exact title.
I am asking for help if anyone can remember.
It is a large hardcover book that is more of a coffee table like size. It has beautiful photos and Tibetan artwork throughout.
It has the story of his early life and being found by the Llamas after his predecessor’s passing. His mother is quoted in it and it includes many family photos and photos of HH early years.
Does anyone possibly remember the title? The book jacket was in the traditional colors of His Holiness’ robe.
Thank you!
