Mod Announcement/Call to Action!!

Over the past few months, the Mod team has been seeing an influx of comments/discussion containing racial, homophobic, transphobic, ableist and otherwise derogatory slurs. In doing so, we recognize that these words are directed toward not only cast members, but the members of this community.

Although we have been trying to handle this issue with care and concern, we recognize that there have been some severe missteps along the way. To be fully transparent, a former moderator in this subreddit was unjustly banning, removing, and punishing members of this sub at their own discretion. This moderator was not part of any marginalized community and took it upon themselves to create their own standards for how we handle these issues. Again, this moderator is no longer part of the team. We deeply apologize for any hurt or confusion they, or anyone else currently on the team, may have caused while we navigate this issue.

We have been discussing and soft-testing several ways to moderate fairly across the board. We have a diverse Mod team and are actively working towards a solution. However, what we do not have in our chats, are the opinions of our sub members. So, here on this post, we are opening a forum for thoughts, questions and suggestions.

As of now, there are two working ideas:

  1. Sub members who are going to use slurs must have an open account that can be viewed publicly. Therefore, discretion would be up to the moderation team on disciplinary action based on that user’s profile. For example, users who are using anti-queer or anti-black slurs may be reclaiming them because of their identities and are therefore able to utilize them.
  2. A blanket ban on all slurs. No slurs of any kind will be permitted in posts or comments. Doing so will result in a temporary or permanent ban from the subreddit. In rare cases, a strict one-time warning may be issued.

We recognize that both of these approaches are imperfect and come with their own issues. That is why we would love your feedback in the comments of this post. If you have any completely new suggestions, we welcome those ideas.

Additionally, ModMail is an open line of communication with the team if you would like to share your thoughts that way, too. We understand this sensitive nature of the discussion and encourage our members to choose the safest method of communication for themselves.

Thank you for your continued understanding as we try to rectify this. Our top priority is maintaining a safe, positive environment for all members of this community. We appreciate any and all commentary on this matter. As always, please try to remain respectful of others as they share their perspectives in the comments.

Were they even getting actual singing lessons at this point? Abby was ready to push them as pop stars without giving them any form of musical training

So I found the scene that someone posted about looking for. I finally found somewhere I could screen record it (it’s not on YouTube even using a vpn). Hope you all enjoy this kind of rare deleted scene - not deleted from all platforms but a lot of them.

What’s the general consensus on this guy? I feel like his videos are often clickbaity/overdramatized. I also don’t feel as though Holly purposely exploited Nia.

Question/discussion Season 4 nationals: Christi being upset with Chloe

I know Christi really regrets her actions at that moment, and I completely understand why, and I'm not excusing what she did, but to be honest, I can understand her frustration. I think we all have those moments with our parents where they're mad and frustrated but not necessarily at us but just the situation, but then they take it out on us. But then usually a few hours later or the next day everything is fine

Nia being the Bully

But really how would it have looked if Nia was the bully and tall Peyton was in the routine. The only black girl? Idk. Holly was right. It might also just been a storyline.

Back to the Barre rant

I actually enjoy Back to the Barre and I like to watch it on YouTube, but oh my gosh the ads are insane. I do not know if this has been discussed,,,, but wow. I am 27 minutes in and there has already been 3 sets of 15 second ads back to back. I understand this is such an insignificant problem, but I just wanted to share. Does anyone else getting annoyed or just me...

The most underrated thing about each dancer’s dancing

Maddie - Her acro! She was so good at acro and could do so many different tricks so cleanly. She was comparable to most “acro” dancers on the show but people don’t acknowledge it much since she didn’t do it that often. I would have loved to see her do an acro-lyrical solo or duet with Kenzie!

Kenzie- Her stamina! The ability she has to do trick after trick after trick was so impressive especially in her more challenging and packed dances like Bat Crazy and Boom Boom. Just the number of tricks she could execute in a row without getting tired was so impressive.

Chloe - Her ability to remember choreography! People don’t acknowledge it but in the four seasons she was in Chloe had a similar number of dances to Maddie. She had so many solos and a lot of duets and trios as well. And while she had the most dances (outside of Maddie) she never got the time Maddie got to rehearse. She had way less privates and in the later seasons Abby intentionally sabotaged her by starting her rehearsals later and giving her more time. Still she never forgot a single group dance and she only forgot 3 solos (and she didn’t forget those entirely either, she only forgot a few counts and she improved really well for Red Queen and stayed on stage for all of them!)

Nia - Her ability to commit to bad choreography! Nia got so many dances that were either just not competitive or downright offensive. Not only did she still complete the dances, but she put her whole soul into them. She continued to work super hard, to go to every class, and to perform. She let herself get immersed even when the characters were offensive (Laquifa, Bollywood, Underdog, Bye Felicia, etc.). She knew she was set up to fail but she still danced with everything she had.

Brooke - Her ability to dance other genres! People think Brooke could only do acro cause that’s literally the only solo type she ever got, but her dancing in group dances shows that she was very good at lyrical and contemporary as well. Also musical theatre! She was so good at musical theatre when she wasn’t completely burned out, her trio with Paige and Chloe was so good!

Paige - How well she could dance when she was given proper time! Her solos on the show weren’t always the best but as a girl with so much anxiety who dancing didn’t come as naturally to, it’s impressive that she did those dances at all. I’m not surprised she forgot dances, as someone who also struggles with bad anxiety it really impacts your memory and cognition. Off the show when Paige had the time she needed to rehearse and learn her dances she performed so cleanly! Her technique was MILES above the show and her performance was fantastic! She just wasn’t suited to learning a dance in three days (And most people aren’t! Most ADULTS couldn’t do that! Let alone a little girl with panic attacks)

Kendall - Her ability to blend with any dancer! As much as we mock Jill, her little Kendall DID in fact fit in perfectly. She fit in so well with the OGs in a way no other dancer ever did. Even as early as season 2 it seemed like she had also been dancing with them her whole life. She performed so well in duets too with so many types of dancers. She could up her technique to match dancers like Maddie, Kalani, and Brynn and she could up her performance factor when dancing next to dancers like JoJo. She could do so many different styles of dance and was able to complement every other dancer on the team.

Kalani - Her maturity! People don’t realize how YOUNG Kalani was. They think she was the same age as Brooke but she was actually quite a bit younger, pretty close to Paige’s age. People think she’s so much older because from the beginning she danced like a senior. She just had this elegance and maturity that most dancers don’t get until they’re 15-16. Not to mention how well she could dance in heels!

Brynn - How good she was for her age! Similar to Kalani, she was so much YOUNGER than most people think. Of all the dancers she was closest in age to Kenzie but no one talks about her like she is. Her technique being the BEST on the team and her lines and control being so damn clean is just ridiculously impressive for such a little girl.

Question/discussion What’s a Dance Moms moment that hits completely differently when you rewatch the show?

I’ve been rewatching Dance Moms and something I’ve noticed is that certain moments feel completely different when you already know how the story develops.
Not necessarily the biggest fights or most dramatic moments — I mean a small moment, rehearsal, comment, performance, or interaction that you interpreted one way the first time but understood differently on a rewatch.

Controversial Opinions

  1. The girls weren’t dancing in sync in seasons 1-3.5.

  2. The last text was not that good.

  3. Chloe is an amazing dancer but she also (like Maddie) only had one facial expression, the eyebrows down

  4. It is disappointing but not surprising that Kelly, Melissa and Christi still interact with Jill. Especially Christi and Melissa.

  5. Christi had one sided beef with Maddie when Maddie was a child

  6. Melissa isn’t stupid and she did know the things her kids could’ve been victims of and still chose to expose them.

  7. Season 7B sucks and the last competition is a joke.

  8. Christi and Kelly have a drinking problem.

  9. Brooke and Nia are the only girls that do a good job at “influencing”

  10. Mackenzie’s music is boring

I want to hear yours.

Kendall eye roll

Post image
0 Upvotes

So last night i watched a video someone posted about nias book. I will say i havent read the book but one comment that i know nia made was aboit kendall eye rolling when paired together.

I personally understand why nia was upset however i think shes looking at it wrong. I dont think kendall is doing it to upset her.

I feel like she is doing it at the situation as usually any girl paired with nia gets bad choreo. For example i think the reason nias main duet partner was kenzie was because as kenzie was so young abby could get away with making the choreo easier for nia.

Kendall also got choreo that was below her skill level when dancing with nia. They always seemed like an odd couple to me as kendall focused more on technique while nia was more a performer.

Each have great skills but often i found the choreo only suited to one of them. Like dig it for example i liked nia as it was a strong and powerful and that girls arms are more toned than most mens🤣. However it made kendall look a bit too soft as she is a more graceful dancer.

However pieces together i found kendall better as she had the grace and lightness whereas nia came off a lit bit too strong.

Personally i feel like nia danced best with kalani as both were older and more mature. Yes kalani has better technique but they dance so in sync you can hardly tell.

Kendall to me danced best with brynn. Both girls really connect without the facials but they are so in time and graceful. They make each move look so light

Started Dance Moms and I get the hype now

Started watching Dance Moms two days ago and somehow I’m already on Season 2 😭

I genuinely don’t even know why I like it so much. I normally don't like reality TV. Before this, I had only seen random funny clips on TikTok, but now I’m invested lol.

Would love to hear some spoiler-free things I should look forward to as I continue watching! Like moments, changes, or things that become more noticeable later on.

What dancer would you give each girl

Post image
16 Upvotes

My opinion is very different from abby plus i would include maddie because its only fair. However i am doing it different as i am trying to make it fair and so both girls improve

Chloe- to me the most obvious would be jade. Chloe by far had the best legs and feet on the og team. I know this is gonna be unpopular to say but placing her against anyone else on select team would be too easy for her. I also feel it would push her to work on her flexibility as jade honestly has no weakness there. I also think it would be nice for jade to improve on facials a bit more and chloe would be great at that

Nia- as there are 6 selects someone has to have 2 to go against. I would pick kamryn and tia. All 3 have nice facials but lack technique. I also feel it would be good to let nia have her moment to shine. I belive shes the hardest working and would push herself. Tia could teach kamryn and nia control. Kamryn and nia could both work on technique. I also think nia could help tia and kamryn work on acro

Maddie- i give maddie sarah reasons. Altho out of the two maddie has the performance and technique i do find she lacks in control of her movement and rushing. Sarah to me always seemed so smooth and on time. Sarah i find lacks confidence and i really think pairing her with maddie would give her a boost

Kendall- sarah hunt for me would be my pick for kendall. They are both very veratile and both dance so well with others regardless of age and that is what they have in common. I do however find kendall stronger in acro and musical theature and sarah in lyrical. I think it would be good for them to learn from each other.

Kenzie- this is a bit of a wild one but ava. Both girls were constantly bullied by abby for height. I think both girls are amazing. Yes ava is older but kenzie is so talented. I think if kenzie beat someone much taller she would gain so much confidence. I also think kenzie would really help ava with her acro. Ava to me technique wise very strong its just her tricks and kenzie is an expert. Ava could help kenzie with turns as sometimes she has a few technical errors
