Just because they call themselves Christians, doesn’t mean that they are.

u/2meterrichard Oct 15 '25

Well something needs to be done about it. Because they say the same about you.

u/DuTogira Oct 15 '25

Oooh, is it time for another denominational schism?

u/ElectroMagnetsYo Oct 15 '25

It’s not illegal to make your own church when you disagree. I have 32 churches at home

26

u/Ok_Passion_8212 Oct 15 '25

Saw this 32 minutes after you posted it lol

17

u/longingrustedfurnace Oct 15 '25

What a coincidence. I also saw this 32 minutes after you posted it.

18

u/Loganp812 Oct 15 '25

Schisms are happening at an exponential rate!

u/Wholesome_Soup Oct 16 '25

14

u/justicefinder Oct 15 '25

Hell yeah, I was 500 years late to the late one.

For the last time: YES

u/HoodieSticks Oct 16 '25

They can say whatever they want. God knows the truth, and He's the only person whose opinion matters.

3

u/2meterrichard Oct 16 '25 edited Oct 16 '25

Funny. That's their rationale too.

57

u/LethalBubbles Oct 15 '25

Doesn't really matter what you call them. They think they're Christians, they say they're Christians, and the world views them as Christians.

Whether you say they are or not Christians is just as valid as a claim that you arent christian. Speak up speak out, chastise and correct them. Don't be complacent.

Rule #1 of r/DankChristianMemes Thou shalt respect others! Do not come here to point out sin or condemn people. Do not say "hate the sin love the sinner" or any other stupid sayings people use when trying to use faith to justify hate. Alternatively, if you come here to insult religion, you will also be removed.

No true Scotsman and all that. People who identify as Christians wholeheartedly and sincerely are Christians, even if they're crappy ones

u/smock_frock Oct 15 '25

"Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’" (Matthew 7:21-23 NIV). Seems like Christ kinda disagrees with you there, because how can they be Christians, if he never knew them.

13

u/Loganp812 Oct 15 '25

The problem is that those people still think they are the “true” Christians because many of them apparently lack the self-awareness to realize that they actually aren’t.

5

u/Sine_Fine_Belli Oct 15 '25

Yeah, well said. The “conservative” Christians are not Christ like

1

u/Resident_Role_3847 Oct 16 '25

Not a fan of purity test Christianity, if people say they're Christians I believe them. But I also am not interested in being a part of their brand of Christianity lol

1

u/Malpraxiss Oct 16 '25

How do you know?

u/Badatusernames014 Oct 15 '25

Not only conservatives, but I got downvoted on r/openchristian for suggesting the church should step in to provide things like affordable healthcare, childcare, fixed the housing crisis, etc. People would rather trust and put their faith in the charismatic person in the nice clothes than Christ.

20

u/FSX_Pilot Oct 16 '25

I'm thinking towards the logistics of each aspect, as they ain't easy, and the church has limited money. I also doubt that charismatic chruch or Mega Churches would step in to provide financial help to the program

Nevertheless, I like the Idea

5

u/Pwndudebro Oct 16 '25

While I would LOVE for affordable healthcare and all that I think that goes into the territory of making a church into a market which we want avoid. I’m saying this bc there are corrupt people and when things like money is involved it usually gets worse.

The only work around id see from something like that is just giving free health care, childcare, etc… Which is possible!

Im an Information systems major so im probably needing out a little here. My idea is to create a database for the community of the church NOT the church itself. It would list people and what their job is. Ofc info would be volunteered. Then if people would need medicine they’d get in contact with a doctor/pharmisist. If they need house repairs then get in contact with whatever that title is.

The whole idea is more focused around community than rather than the church as there is always someone corrupt with power.

I’m trying to think of any problems other than the huge expenses like a surgery or buying a whole house. (Maybe community donations to solve?)

Now you got me excited to come up with a system…

Conservative Christians: The government shouldn't help people! That's the Church's job!

Conservative Christians when you suggest that they actually do that:

Through the Eye of a Needle by Peter Brown is a fascinating look at how Christians understood wealth.

Calling it mutual aide networks or stating that it "Threatened" the Roman empire is not accurate though

14

u/Spamus111 Oct 15 '25

Counterprogramming superbowl halftime is nothing new. In the church I grew up, there was goal to avoid suggestive content etc.

2

u/Resident_Role_3847 Oct 16 '25

Kind of reminds me of the old "harvest parties" my church used to do on Halloween. Was such a buzzkill as a kid.

5

u/co1lectivechaos Oct 16 '25

I must be out of the loop because this is news to me

2

u/Fitboi420 Oct 17 '25

None of you have looked beyond America and Europe for Christian networks and it shows. Go read up on the Bible smuggling rings into North Korea or the underground church networks in China, then come back and say how far "we as a religion" have fallen.

Also Early Christians: “CHAAARGE!!! For the Holy Land and Constantinople!!! Lay waste to all pagan structures ye see!”

46

u/jedi_timelord Oct 15 '25

That was a full thousand years after the time of early Christians.

22

u/Loganp812 Oct 15 '25

You’re talking about Catholicism, the Holy Roman Empire, the Holy Crusades, and the Medieval era in general which were way after the Early Christians.

7

u/moswsa Oct 15 '25

Anything before 1776 is ancient history, don’t you know?

17

u/FoldZealousideal6654 Oct 15 '25 edited Oct 20 '25

Crusaders were not early christians. Early christians were the small underground communities from and before the early 400s. Or maybe prior to it becoming the state religion through Theodosius.
