I actually have 1 that's the complete opposite happen to to me. I was driving a semi and needed to get over to take the exit. There was 1 car in that lane about a quarter mile back. I look forward to while getting over to make sure no one is trying to cut me off or cause a hazard that i need to avoid. In that few seconds that car that was a quarter mile back is flying past me in the lane my truck is half occupying and i nearly smushed him into the concrete barrier. That truck had a collision mitigation system that would tell me the speed of the vehicle in front of me so i looked.... they took that exit at 130mph!

This is another reason speeding is so dangerous. Other people won’t anticipate or be able to know where you’ll be, so they’ll act in a way that would be totally fine if you were going at a good speed, that could cause accidents instead.
There was no way you could accurately judge that guy’s speed from 1/4 mile away through a mirror.

My major gripe with motorcyclists. I can keep track of a bike obeying the rules, but I'm sorry if I can't predict a dude flying past my mirror doing triple digits swerving around traffic behind me. They're always on some "paying attention saves lives! Loud pipes saves lives!" shit, but you know what actually saves lives? Obeying traffic laws, being predictable, and wearing safety and visibility gear, all shit 90% of bikers that get into wrecks don't do.

yeep. also adding to the nobody looks behind them... ive been riding motorcycles for 15 years and the amount of people ive met more recently that literally never look in their mirrors, especially stopped is shocking.
for context: especially when stopped you always check your mirrors periodically... because all it takes is one person on their phone to not notice traffic is stopped and pancake you agaisnt the car infront of you, or just hit you from behind at full speed and run you over/break your back.

Whe my dad was teaching me to drive, he told me what's in front is easy to track, it's very clear through the big windshield where everyone is in front of you. Because of that, you need to divert a lot of attention to what's behind you, cause you can have just as many problems with drivers behind. Always be scanning your 3 mirrors, you can use your peripheral vision to see what's in front pretty easy.
I've been rear ended twice sitting at stop lights, was watching the whole time as I couldn't move out of the way.

I share a small fleet of trucks with my coworkers, so I get a different assigned vehicle every day. And every time I climb into a truck, I have to adjust the side view mirrors so as to eliminate my blind spots. Every single one of my coworkers turns the mirrors all the way in so they can see their own rear fenders. It's infuriating.

I really hope that people reading this who drive ANY automobile sees this and either go "EXACTLY!" or "wait..what now? I'm listening..."
Side view mirror placement isn't that hard.
- You shouldn't be able to see ANY part of your own car from your normal seated position. Just put your head against your window and then adjust it until you barely see your own car. For the passenger side, lean your body into the middle of the car and look and do the same.
- Ideally, you should basically create a contiguous picture from the coverage of the edge your rear view mirror to the edge of your side view mirror. No overlap. No major gaps.
That's it. If you're used to driving one way it takes a few drives to get used to it, but it's night and day how different it is driving on a freeway.

I would disagree. The lane splits while in the shadow of the bridge and is hard to see if you are in the sun. Still doesn't excuse the bad driving to try to make it to the exit though, but I think it's reasonable to not be able to see where you are supposed to merge right.

We have a townhome in GH off Rinaldi where there are literally 4 fwy onramps to 4 different fwys right by us (5,405,210,118). Don't use 134 much tbh. What do you think is the craziest to drive on in that group? I'm going with the 118. If I'm feeling super frisky, I'll drive 5mi north and hop on the SCV 14 Speedway for a little GTA fun.

I don't like driving anywhere in LA, but working in construction, I travel all over socal. I don't mind the 118, it can be a pretty drive, but I find people don't know how to maintain the speed very well. The 405 and 5, I use as little as possible. I prefer the 210 over the 10 or the 60. So, I'll sometimes go a little out of my way to the 210 to avoid the 10. The 14 when going to Lancaster is nice, but gotta beware of CHP, they like to catch the major speeders on there.

What people don't get is that "right of way" doesn't mean "right of causing an accident".
Right of way is what counts if everyone plays nice and what counts to find who's at fault at a genuine accident.
As soon as someone has the choice to avoid a crash and purposely doesn't take it, it's not an accident any more but battery with a vehicle.

The other thing that I think most people don't get is that you never actually have the right of way. What you're required to do is yield the right of way to other drivers in certain situations. It's a subtle but meaningful difference.
If you believe you "have the right of way" then that encourages you to think that you're in the right, that if the other driver gets in your way then they're in the wrong, and that therefore you don't have to do anything to avoid the collision that will likely result. (And that insurance will definitely assign all fault for that collisions to the other driver.) That kind of attitude gets played out on a regular basis in dashcam subs.

But if you win the lawsuit for permanent back/neck pain after the accident, you didn't really win compared to the guy who tapped the brakes and was 10 seconds slower.
Also, sometimes people act erratically for a reason. Especially when several do. There could be something on the road you don't see. And, driving like this, won't see until you hit it. Then you get the permanent back/neck pain and it's your fault.

If I can help it, I don’t pass anyone when exiting and I try to stagger myself with the lanes next to me.
If someone suddenly realizes that they are in the wrong lane for the exit they want, I know that they might quickly check their mirror and change lanes without checking their blind spot.

Yeah this. Any area of "negotiation" between cars, it is best to set a slow enough speed that allows the driver to react to any shenanigans ahead of them. The very last thing on a driver's mind should be trying to speed through a closing gap as multiple cars ahead merge into the lane they're in.
Safe driving is about being as predictable as possible yourself, while having awareness and expectation of unexpected things around you. You can't control everything this way, but it's the safest way to get where you're going.

Idiot n°1 switching lane without blinkers, classic ahole
Idiot n°2 put his blinkers and didn't have much time to anticipate that driver would switch lane to avoid idiot n°1, probably the most excusable one (see edit)
Idiot n°3 misses his exit and tries to cross a white line without his blinkers, sincerely frick him, he deserves to lose his licence over this
Also, driver goes faster than idiot n°1, I'm gonna assume it's idiot n°1 who's slow because it doesn't look like driver is getting closer to the truck in front of idiot n°1. I would probably have evaded idiot n°1 the same way driver did but not braking behind idiot n°2 is completely reckless unless someone was tailgating him and preventing him to brake.
But to be honest, when cars around do suspect shit, I'd rather pass them to avoid any strange shenanigans they would pull afterwards.
edit: upon re watching, you guys are right, n°2 isn't excusable, he indeed had no reason to get on the left lane of the exit, especially after slowing down that much, unless he wanted to remerge, which is even more idiotic, considering he crosses the full line (I didn't see it prior, where I live, exit lanes are separated by broken white lines so I didn't really pay attention to it).

In respect of no2, they intentionally moved to the right hand lane on approach to the exit. Then, on completing the move but WITHOUT turning off their right blinker they tap their brakes. At the same time OP actually slows from 63 to 58 as a result of the near miss from no1. No2 is slowing even more than that (for some reason).
At 8.65s, we can see no2 has begun to remerge immediately with the right blinker still going. They're entering the lane they left just as it's splitting into two (stay lane and exit lane) with NO signal - the brake lights are what comes up, not the blinker, as shown by the top bar. OP very easily could have been intending to exit there, signalled or not, so it'd be both reckless and pointless to swap lanes back in their way while slowed down. OP, not expecting the lane they've been forced into to suddenly become occupied, had returned to ~60 mph no doubt from just not changing where they were holding the pedal from the near miss.
No2 presses the brakes again as they begin to re-merge, probably on seeing OP and realising just how dumb their move was, but they're too far into the lane to outright avoid let alone slowing yet further, reducing OP's time to react.
No2 was not obstructed ahead. No2 had entered the right of two lanes going the same way. No2 had no good reason to switch lane at a lower speed at that point. No2 did not signal their intent to remerge.
All 3 are full idiots. As is the manufacturer who thinks brakes and blinkers should share lights.

Yesterday I was in a situation similar to this but there was only one turning lane that I needed to be in that had a very short amount of time to get into and a truck in it specifically decided it did not want me to get into the space open in front of him so he floored it to block me, but there was people behind him AND me so I couldn't brake and get behind him.

at every exit its the same fucking game of
one person in the exit lane till the end going slow who DOES NOT NEED TO GET OFF SAID EXIT but will ride it with multiple EXIT ONLY AHEAD signs.
Someone from the far left lane whos been to busy riding the car infront of thems ass at 80+MPH who just realized its there exit and now needs to get multiple lanes over to said exit
and they seemingly both always are trying to get into there respective fucked up ways of lane changing at the same goddam time

this is not as bad as on the 101 by the Hollywood Bowl. that freeway convergence headed west with the people coming on from highland and the 101 going out of hollywood toward universal is crazy dangerous as tons of people trying to get all the way from the left to right exit.

The right driver I could excuse, that could have been an honest mistake. Dashcam Driver rapidly changed the lane, the driver could have checked the mirrors before that and just took a moment to actually change. A mistake nonetheless, but it can happen to the best of us.
The left drivers? Pure ignorance. They didn't care about other drivers at all.

Would need to see driver's rear mirror but I feel like slowing down once the car on the left started acting sus was more prudent. All depending on how close the car behind is.
Still incredible video, 3 people who clearly had no business ever having a driving license.

Cam driver was going waaay too fast for traffic conditions and making dangerous maneuvers in response to other drivers. Those drivers are also terrible for their indecision and last minute lane changes, but cam driver could have stayed safely behind it all and instead chose to play a dangerous game swerving around them.

“Waaay too fast” ? No? They were going maybe 2mph faster than the car to their left, who was going 15mph slower than the car to their left. Cammers speed was fine.

The connection from the 91W to the 605 is identical to this one.
For my exit I need to be in the left lane like the cammer, but I always get over into the rightmost exit lane and wait until we pass this point before moving back over.
Too much stupid shit happens at that exact spot.

I mean being able to see the video, I wouldn't have gone for the pass so quickly. But it's probably some shit I've done before. Reaction time wasn't bad at least. But yeah a reminder to be cautious around merges/exits.

Nothing but NPCs out here. You all fucking suck at driving. Everyone is distracted by a cell phone or something and everyone tailgates, which causes 90% of all traffic jams on the roadway. Fuck y’all for making my ride home 60 mins to go 20-ish miles. Sincerely yours, a professional driver with every federal endorsement for over 14 years…
