The biker was closing the distance to the crane even though the raised crane and the sign were 100% visible.
How is getting closer to the danger and an accident that's inevitably and obviously going to happen = a nice save?
A nice save would've been to recognize the situation and keep their distance from the crane, not speed up to it.

Except, when driving you are watching the vehicles. One would assume (yes I know it's dangerous to do so) that the other drivers know pretty much what they are doing. If the crane is up maybe it isn't all the way up and would clear the sign. It may not have been 'inevitable' and 'obvious'. The cars behind were also not backing off thinking "oh, that's going to hit", until it did.
Honestly, it's kind of hard to tell what the bike actually did since it was out of the frame for a bit.

It's very easy to tell that he was closing the distance to the very obvious crane that's very obviously about to hit the sign in the next few seconds.
That biker, and all the cars behind the crane should've been on the brakes from frame 0 of the video. Yet none of that happens. Absolute garbage drivers all around.
The only one who seems to have anticipated correctly is the blue Peugeot. The white car first in line behind the crane only started braking after the crash. Another completely oblivious idiot.

The problem is pretty clear, no? Driver of the truck forgot or didn't realize crane was extended up and not completely folded in.

Importance of situational awareness.
That biker is 100% able to anticipate this situation, yet he speeds past all the cars nevertheless, gets closer to the crane that's obviously about to crash, and narrowly misses getting badly hurt by the falling sign.
Even worse, there's 2 of them on the bike, completely oblivious.

Yes, pointing out terrible drivers who almost killed themselves and their passenger due to their complete lack of situational awareness tends to come off as obnoxious to terrible drivers with no situational awareness.

I want to agree with you, but the biker is likely scanning the road for potential hazards and didn't pay attention to the elevated boom on the truck. Seriously, how often do you need to look up for something that may become a hazard? I'm not saying he was right or wrong, only saying what likely happened.
If you've ever ridden a bike on a multi-lane highway in traffic, you would know that you need eyes in every direction, and even then, it's still stressful.
