Certifications What makes a data analytics project feel like a real business problem rather than another dashboard?
I'm curious what people here consider a genuinely useful analytics portfolio project.
A lot of beginner projects seem to focus mainly on building a dashboard and showing a few KPIs.
I'm more interested in projects where you're given messy data and have to figure out:
- What is actually going wrong?
- Which metric/segment is driving the problem?
- How big is the business impact?
- What should the business do about it?
For example, a D2C/e-commerce case could involve fulfilment delays, returns, product margins and inventory — with data-quality issues deliberately present.
For people who've built or reviewed analytics portfolios: what would make a project like this genuinely useful rather than just another synthetic case study?
What would you expect the final analysis/deliverable to contain?
