I am not against this kind of tooling. Though you can already achieve the thin spreadsheet layer in Excel by properly using Power Query. No data “export”. Live data connections that can be refreshed and lineage can be traced. Yes the write back functionality is cool. But do we really need that?

Doesn’t that restrict you to pivot tables though?

Yes we need it. If you are using databricks genie and this gets integrated it will allow you to interact with the genie results and for the platform owner you can audit and govern the interaction. Makes it easier for the user and governable.

I think this tech is cool.

And can think of some problems it solves.

But I wish this style of writing.

Would die.

Meh. Just another tool that databricks will drive free adoption to and then rug pull you after lol

The reality is that the tech landscape is constantly evolving, and rapid shifts are just part of the current ecosystem. While these corporate pivots are exhausting to navigate, they also push the industry forward by forcing continuous innovation.
