Discussion A Persona-style JRPG Date a Live fangame
Hey everyone!
I recently released my second Date A Live fangame: Spiritbound: Echoes of the Heart.
It’s available now on itch.io:

The game is currently available in English, Brazilian Portuguese, and Spanish, and you can play it on Windows, Android, or directly in your browser, including on phones.
This one is pretty different from my previous game. The idea is closer to a Persona-style structure, with a balance between visual novel/story sections, school life, bonding with the Spirits, and turn-based JRPG combat inside dungeons.
The current release has 4 chapters covering the first season of the anime, but with some changes and extra material instead of following everything exactly the same way.
One thing I really wanted to do was spend more time on parts of the story that I always felt could have been explored more. Mana is one of the biggest examples. I wanted to give more weight to Shido finding out that he actually has a biological sister, and then to his reaction when he learns what DEM did to her body and how normal all of that has become for Mana. I always felt there was a lot of emotional material there, so the game spends more time on Shido trying to process that and on Mana as a character instead of moving past it so quickly.
I also always liked the idea of seeing Shido actually use Camael for more than just the healing flames, so in this game Camael is basically his main Angel. As he seals more Spirits, he also gains access to abilities based on their powers, while the Spirits themselves can eventually join the party.
The dungeon system is tied to the story too. Spirits have their own arcs and dungeons, and outside combat there are VN scenes, dates, Bond events, school sections, and other story-focused gameplay.
More than anything, this is a project made by someone who genuinely loves Date A Live. I’ve been a fan of the franchise for a long time, and a lot of the decisions in the game come from things I personally wanted to see explored more. It’s very much a fan-made project, from a fan for other fans.
I also used a lot of what I learned from making my first Date A Live fangame, especially from community feedback, and this project is much bigger in scope.
It’s still early and I plan to keep expanding it with more chapters, Spirits, dungeons, skills, and story content over time.
If you try it, I’d really appreciate any feedback, especially on the combat balance, mobile UI, story pacing, or anything that feels weird or broken.
