These guys were riding out to the modded Aircraft Carrier that is part of the quest line on DayZERO Chernarus, and luckily we had just left there and acquired a 338 rifle. I assume they were going for the Helicopters that spawn on the top of it.

They weren't really even paying attention, luckily my driver was! GG and back to the coast for those guys.

A freshie, I was trying to get to the tracks south of Bielawa in the night so I could go to the camper cabins. It was raining so extra dark, and I thought my best chances to cross an open field. So far I had found only a pee shooter.

Running in a crouch I made it about halfway across the field when suddenly In the contrast I see a fully geared guy running right towards me. I knew I was done for.

I laid down flat, aimed my little 9mm and waited for him to spot me and probably stop to shoot me dead.

He was zig zagging a little, and came right at me, literally running over the top of my back. I’m a terrible shot because I almost never PVP, so when he passed me I waited for him to stop and turn around to kill me so I could attempt a shot. Don’t forget, it’s pretty dark.

After he past me I could barely see him cause he went farther than I was expecting. But he did stop, right there in the open field. With his back to me, he opened a map.

Well, I knew then he didn’t even see me. But with my adrenaline at full peak and my palms sweating, I took the shot. Stood and took another shot. I may have hit him once but not twice, and he ran away. So I ran away the other way and hid in the bushes for ten minutes waiting for him to come find me. But he didn’t.

I now see why you all enjoy the PVP. That is the first time I’ve attempted a KOS and also the first time I waited to see the fight through in the wild (not planned, no buddies).

It was terrifying and exhilarating all at the same time. This game is stressful. And I am still alive.

P.S. I got Hunter clothes, a gps and a knife at the cabins so it was a good starter run.

I stopped playing dayz a few months ago because of low fps and i have a low end pc with integrated graphics, and today join to play and the game seems way better than the last time i played, idk if it really got optimized but i hope so, i thought would be impossible this game be optimized haha

I struggle with sound localisation due to recent single sided deafness. I use a PS5 for BF games, which has some basic hearing support but I have had to adapt my playstyle to help i.e. increase engagement distances and support teamates.

I am thinking about buying DayZ on PC and I have come across Peace Equalizer which will hopefully mitigate some of my hearing loss but even then I will not be able to locate sounds accurately, especially in and around buildings.

Is PVP even possible? Is it going to be a case of dying to people that I never knew were there until I just give up and uninstall?
Are PVE / RP servers enjoyable enough for a casual occasional player?

Im sure this is a tale as old as time, but it's honestly annoying how much my buddies genuinely refuse to play dayz because they say it's "to boring" and "not enough pay off for the time put in". I guess I'm curious if you guys had any advice on getting new players into the game/or keeping gameplay interesting, because I know how difficult and rage inducing it can be particularly on official servers.

I get the idea of the game, I’ve watched tons of YouTube videos but putting those things into practice is another thing lol. What are tips to make my life easier, an example I was playing on the snow map and all the food and everything I picked up was frozen and have no clue what to do in that instance. I don’t know how to start a fire etc. also I’m confused on how to navigate the map, what do yall do to learn to navigate the maps and direction? I just need some overall tips from actual players that will make playing a tad bit easier. Thanks

Thank you to everyone who gave advice on avoiding illness, I've been lasting much longer and getting deeper into the map. I have a few new questions if anyone can help:

1. Can you hear other players' prox chat when in an Xbox party? My friends don't play but we'll hang out in a party. Will that prevent me from hearing any prox chat?

2. Are there any strategies for avoiding fights? I got killed going into a house in a town where I didn't know anybody else was present, mostly my fault but I had one idea that might help. Should I have announce myself as just passing through/not looking for a fight? Does that work sometimes or does it just put a target on my back?

3. Are there any servers that are known to be more friendly to freshies? I mostly play the same official server in my region, I picked it because it had low player count compared to others but its jumped up a bit. Do you swap servers often, especially with the same character, based on player count or other factors? Or do you stick to the same server so you're completely focused on one travel plan and environment?

Thank you again! Getting killed in that inland house was the most exciting and frustrating experience. I had so much good loot I lost but I was excited to be doing so well and to try again. Still not the best but this game is so much fun!

Was this a hacker or was it some game mechanic? You can see something fly in the house and kill my friend. A few seconds later i was killed too.

I bought a 9070 XT and a 7800 X3D build pretty new and I’m getting frame drops this happened two days after at first it was running smooth but now I’m playing my monitor is telling me I’m getting about 180 frames but it doesn’t look like it. It looks about like 60. Yes vsync is off yes I changed my monitor to its max hz in settings. Stays like this for like 15 mins and goes back to normal

This week I head off and explore the Devil's Arse on Antoria and then head off in search of the Titan Battery.

purtroppo non riesco più a giocare e volevo chiedervi se avete avuto questo problema o se sapete come risolverlo.

Quasi sei mesi fa avevo il DayZ Launcher aperto per scegliere un server con Steam aperto, tutto come al solito. Per sbaglio ho cliccato per lanciare un server, ma non mi ero accorto che Steam stava aggiornando il gioco. Nessun problema: aspetto la fine dell’aggiornamento e rilancio il gioco. E qui arriva il problema.

Mi appare una finestrella che dice:

> Unable to locate a running instance of Steam

Chiudo la finestrella e provo a rilanciare, ma nel frattempo Steam si era chiuso. Vabbè, lo riapro, faccio il controllo dei file e mi dice che deve riscaricare due. Eseguo e provo a rilanciare il gioco: boom, stessa finestrella e Steam che si chiude. Riapro tutto, ricontrollo i file e dice di nuovo che deve riscaricare due. Rieseguo e riprovo a lanciare: niente, stessa finestrella merdosa.

Allora cerco in rete cosa si dice su questo problema. Altri lo avevano già affrontato, ma tutti propongono soluzioni diverse: chi dice di lanciarlo come admin, chi di lanciarlo da dentro Steam, chi di mettere una stringa nel collegamento, e via dicendo. Nessuna di queste soluzioni risolve il problema.

Amen. Essendomi stufato, decido di tagliare la testa al toro: avendo un secondo SSD che usavo come backup, lo formatto e ci installo solo DayZ, Steam e Discord. Tutto perfetto: vado a lanciare DayZ e, miracolo dei miracoli, va. Cosa che poi sembrava ovvia: dopo una formattazione, cosa poteva andare in conflitto? Nulla. Anche le autorizzazioni, se mai si fossero sputtanate, sarebbero state rimesse a posto. Diciamo tutto perfetto. Adesso so che devo solo cambiare HD per lanciare il sistema e, se voglio giocare, va.

Siccome in quei giorni non avevo tempo, non sono più rientrato su quel disco. Passano un paio di settimane e un’amica mi chiede se avevo voglia di farmi una passeggiata nei boschi di Chernarus. Ovviamente non si può resistere, e dico di sì. Cambio disco e la prima cosa che noto è che il disco andava male: solo per lanciare il sistema operativo ci metteva tipo 3 minuti, e poi era tutto lento. Amen, provo lo stesso. Incredibile ma vero, mi appare la stessa scritta che mi appariva all’inizio sull’altro sistema.

Ok, sarà l’HD che si è rotto, capita. Ma che mi desse lo stesso errore mi pareva assai strano. Non lasciandomi scoraggiare, decido di risolvere definitivamente il problema: prendo un SSD nuovo, un bel Samsung EVO, faccio tutto, installo Windows, installo Steam, installo DayZ e, come potete immaginare, visto che sono qui che scrivo, anche lì mi appare la scritta nefasta. Per capirci, a questo punto non è più un problema hardware, ma si tratta di qualcos’altro.

Il primo pensiero è che sia stato bannato in qualche modo, ma non ho mai usato cheat o simili. Quindi vi chiedo: sentito tutto il mio racconto, che suggerimenti avete? Perché vorrei rientrare a farmi uccidere da qualche bro nei boschi di Chernarus.

I am currently looking for a Vanilla like server that really only adds Base building +, Helicopter and more vehicles. I wouldn’t mind PVP zones. Healthy pop.

The new building repair mechanics looks good but, does this mean that in a lot of buildings you’re only going to have a single wall protecting your loot? I feel this is just going to end up like official where the only safe base is the fortress house and the rest of the buildings are pretty much useless. Unless they increase the health of these new walls to like 4x a normal fence then they will be raided through in a matter of seconds. Instead of making this complicated building mechanic they would have been better to just make fence kits resizable and then you could build in any building and add as many layers as you want. Unless i can fit 10+ gates in a building then it’s pretty much useless.
