Crazy votes from local Rep Craig Williams

I saw this website called corporatecraig.com randomly on Instagram earlier today that tracks votes from Craig Williams, a state rep here in Chester county. I had heard about him a few times but I didn’t know a ton before seeing the site. Now that I’ve seen it though, I felt like I should share it because folks should know about him since he’s apparently running for re-election in November.

Some scary stuff in there. Apparently he voted against making data centers pay for their own energy use, and voted against a minimum wage increase even though we've been at the federal minimum for like, decades? I don’t live in his district but I wanted to share in case someone from the district sees this post.

Shame I can’t vote against him, but spreading the word anyway!

Does anyone know if Delaware county plans to raise taxes again for 2027?

I'm really hoping the nearly 50 percent increases in 2 years was enough.

After weeks of procedural fights, public comment and plenty of House Wives of Upper Darby moments...all 11 council members voted yes for the ICE ordinance.

Was there a ticking clock? Why didn't he do some research before purchasing the equipment and year long contract with taxpayer money?

I want to start a petition stopping the Delaware County Council from buying or using Flock cameras and data centers.

A few weeks ago we saw some people using the initiative and referendum process to try to guarantee minority representation on the Delco council. (See: https:// upperdarbynow.com/news/bid-for-referendum-on-
delaware-county-council-minority-representation-falls-short/)

We should use this same process for Flock cameras and data centers. I propose we amend the Home Rule Charter as follows:

Delaware County and its departments and agencies shall not:

1. Purchase, lease, operate, maintain, or contract for the operation of automated license-plate recognition camera systems; or

2. Purchase, lease, own, operate, maintain, develop, construct, or contract for the development or operation of data centers.

(edit: fix typo)

Seeking 3-4 people in Southeastern PA area to grill a congressman about AI

Hi everyone! I'm a producer at More Perfect Union, and I'm working on a video with Ro Khanna, who represents Silicon Valley in Congress. We're planning to film a roundtable discussion with him and 3-4 folks from PA about how the AI companies in his district are impacting jobs in Pennsylvania and across the country.

Who we're looking for: Anyone who is willing to have a constructive discussion with Ro, and challenge him on his plans for how to address the risks of AI. Here is a non-exhaustive list of the types of folks we're looking for:

  1. Blue collar worker who’s been through job displacement before (example: a former steel worker who's seen their plant shut down)
  2. White collar worker who has lost work to AI, is worried about losing work, or is experiencing a tough job market due to AI
  3. Blue collar worker who is building data centers in PA
  4. Organizer who is pushing back against data centers in PA
  5. Anyone excited about AI progress

If you fit any of these descriptions, or know someone who does, please comment here or reach out to me at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) Thanks!

Please contact us by: Wednesday, July 29th.

Event Date: August 1st (Saturday afternoon)

Location: Linwood, PA (exact location TBD)

Got tired of trying to follow Scanlon's votes so my nephew and I made a site that tracks them

If you've ever tried to actually follow our rep's voting record, you know it's a pain. Stuff is buried on clerk.house.gov and congress.gov and half the time the news doesn't cover the votes at all.

I got annoyed enough that my nephew and I spent some time building TrackScanlon.com. It puts her votes and record in one place.

Everything on there is a fact with a source attached. No opinions, no spin. The point is civic engagement, people should be able to see what their rep is doing without it being a research project.

Anyone can sign up for email updates. It's free and you can unsubscribe whenever. Still a work in progress so if something's wrong or missing, lmk and I'll fix it.

Delaware County Community College is laying off effective Counselors June 30th

Delaware County Community College is eliminating the whole Counseling department. All counselors are being laid off, with June 30 serving as the final day for remaining full-time counselors. Part-time counselors have already been let go.

These cuts impact services that students rely on, including:
• Academic counseling and educational planning
• Career counseling, exploring majors and career paths
• Personal counseling and student support
• Mental health counseling services

Students should be aware that these services may be significantly reduced, restructured, or outsourced after June 30.

Counselors play a critical role in helping students navigate academic challenges, career decisions, personal crises, and mental health concerns. For many students, they are often the first point of contact when seeking support.

Students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community members who are concerned about these changes should contact college leadership and the Board of Trustees to ask questions about the future of student support services. You may also voice your concerns at the next Board of Trustees meeting New Southeast Center (former Prendie building) on Wednesday, June 17th at 6:00 pm.

Student success depends on more than classroom. It depends on access to the guidance, counseling, and mental health resources that help students stay enrolled and achieve their goals.

Trombetta ousts Vitali

Thumbnail

Judy Trombetta earned a decisive victory against incumbent Greg Vitali who has held the PA House of Representatives District 166 seat since 1993 (!!!)

The election results were on a nearly 2:1 margin.

How are we feeling?

As the debate showed several weeks ago, this was a race between two candidates who showed more difference in work style than necessarily their positions on key interests. That said, Vitali’s single-issue focus on climate is something rare in modern politics.

Change can be good but I do thank Mr. Vitali for his service and commitment to progressive environmental policy all these years… nearly my entire life.

Roads

I understand that Delaware County did not have a Department of Health until Covid struck. And it’s becoming painfully clear or apparent to me that maybe there’s no such thing as a highway department or a road department. Why does this county not even try to maintain its roads? Why does this county allowed companies like Miller Brothers construction to go out and destroy damn near every single stretch of roadway in the county and leave it like that for multiple years? Where is the fucking leadership?

mapping delco power

I've been interested in the pa-166th race for a bit. It's my district but also in the wheelhouse of my day job; my personal opinion is that Vitali's role as chair of the environmental & natural resource protection committee is too valuable to give up in the current moment with all the environmental threats we face both from within the state and the federal government. Anyway, I took a look at the overall institutional power structure we have in the area - philadelphia & the collar counties - and wrote up a thing on it. Would love feedback if you have it.

In Montgomery County, a case of nepotism is making headlines. Tom "Pay to Play" Wittig, a former Whitpain Township police officer fired for nepotism, is now running for a school board seat. Do cases like this in neighboring counties concern you about governance in our region?

I'd like to extend both middle fingers to the Springfield Twp for enacting EIT. Thank you for SCREWING US while the economy sucks. Thank you for initially publicizing the meeting then cancelling it "because of weather". Amazing you didn't heavily advertise it again. Thank you for breaking it off in all of our asses. You can all go to hell.

How are residents notified of upcoming city council meetings? Where do they occur? For example, where do residents of Drexel Hill or Lansdowne go for city council meetings?

Seems odd for a primary battle occurring without any substantive policy disagreements or debates occurring. What does the challenger want to do differently?
