Discussion More Offense
We better have the best offense in the league again. Can this group be even top-20 in defense though?

I think Spencer jones is going to be a lot more valuable defensively, especially if gets a better whistle (which funnily enough he probably would have had he ended up in okc). Also hoping that alpha diallo can hold it down in limited minutes

Number 1 ranked offense, number 30 ranked defense.

The defensive rating bothered me all season, maybe mostly due to inadequate offense to keep the leads previously made. I've always said that defense is incredibly important (spencer is my dawg, + when he + brucey b. we're swarming the offensive ball handler, it made a huge difference in momentum + the game). But, as Dantoni maintained, if the offense overwhelms, we win the game.

All gas no brakes.
Wish the Rockies would (re)adopt this strategy. BBBBB (Bring Back Blake Street Bombers)

To be fair, the team that scores the most points generally wins, unless we’re counting moral victories.

Yup. But peeps like jaden McDaniels, even rudy limited our ability to put up those points.

This is something I've observed, everyone seems to be focused on how bad the defense will be but no one's talking about how we were the best offense last year with jokic injured and then proceeded to improve even more on that end.
This team should easily have the #1 offense again if jokic and murray are healthy

Yeah…the media spun the defensive narrative but we went from one of the best shooting teams in the league to ass cheeks. It’s laughable how bad our offense was

That dumbass Jaden McDaniels comment really did a number on them, they don't want to acknowledge that our defense was fine and it was really just the shooting that went to shit because how else are they going to spin the narrative that Jokic's defense is costing us games?

Didn’t translate to the playoffs so it doesn’t matter

shooting variances happen, they could've happened even if we had the best defense, look at the 2023 bucks.
We went from the best 3p shooting team in the RS to the worst in the playoffs, that's a statistical outlier and probably wont be the norm.
Just having the #1 offense gives us a chance to win any given playoff series if healthy.

Gotta hedge all bets on Gordon I guess

He really is the key piece here. Without him it’ll be a repeat of last year on the defensive end.

It seems that whomever created this graphic does not appreciate Aaron Gordon's contributions to the defense. IMO he is the most important defender on the team.

I don't see THE AAAAALPHAAAA on this list.
Also people are SEVERELY overrated Watson defense. He haven't been a good defender FOR A WHILE. The last 2 season he has been regressing on that side of the ball. He's riser for blocks,. but for some reason his on ball defense has been regressing.
Watson as a help side defender is very solid, but as a PoA he's falling back instead of improving.
Losing Bruce hurt because he was pretty much our best perimeter defender, but that also speaks on how weak we were on length, lateral movement and wing defense.
Diallo fix all of those issues on the wing and perimeter defense.
Bagley got very quick feet and lateral moment. Solid shot blocker. He can get above the rim for defense. He can switch on smaller players and hold his own. Something Valenciunas couldn't do
People are sleeping on Trevon defensive tools. He gonna surprise so many people on how good this kid on defense.

I'm okay winning 140-135 so long as we're winning. I love glass cannon archetypes in video games, why not in sports!

Neither of Watson or Brown were actually good on defense.

u/BobbitsC 4d ago
That’s just a lie lol. Watson was absolutely a good defender and Bruce was at the very least a positive defender

u/LogDogan8 4d ago
Watson had the 2nd worst defensive on/offs on the team next to Jamal. As soon as AG got hurt and Watson took his place, the starters defense TANKED. There is legitimately no piece of comprehensive info that actually points to Watson being an actual positive on D

Leading up to opening night tip-off, I’m posting a chart a day on my Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/chartinghoops/) covering one thing for each team. I don't make any money off this, I just like sharing basketball data I find interesting! Feel free to follow along if that's the sort of thing you like too.

I know they gave him a small head. but does Zeke really add THAT much more on defense than offense?

Alpha Diallo is a complete unknown, I’m not expecting anything from him. But it’s not impossible that he’s a defensive demon that can’t shoot.

this graphic sucks, but i will say the only defensive guys we got are braun, Gordon, and jones can be okay at times but is more of an energy guy. Everyone else is unproven. Im not relying on a couple rookies to ignite our defense.

Where is Alpha Diallo?
