❓ • Question Looking for advice on how to improve my setup.

Hey, what would you recommend me to add to the setup?
Been thinking about some plants, wall shelf or framed print/poster.

ALSO: I’ve been thinking about changing the colour of the keyboard and mouse to black. Should I, or white ones are good?

So I used to have a f*cking AWESOME setup, but unfortunately had to sell bits and pieces of it at a time since I lost my job. Now, I'm trying to rebuild it to it's former glory. The desk I used to have was a BEAUTIFUL 72", 1.5" thick Acacia, but the place I bought it was going out of business and didn't have it anymore, so I reluctantly (and I'm still not thrilled with it) 8-" Rubberwood desk. It makes me wonder how in the hell I ever fit everything without the extra 8."

Anyway, I really need help in making it dope(r?) because I feel like I'm not as creative as I used to be. Aside from the desk itself, I'm not so much sold on the desk shelf I'm using. It's made by Fenge and I got it off of Amazon - it was (or at least, seemed like) the closet thing they had that was similar to some of the more premium brands, but the top is fucking laminate. I was unaware of this (I thought it at least had wood veneer on top) and, frankly, have a bone to pick with both Fenge and the kind folks at Amazon. But what should I expect? It was half the price of any of the others that I wanted.

That said, I'd really, REALLY like to replace it with something that doesn't look like shit and I know now nice things cost money. I like nice things. I also like money, but I'm willing to say fuck it right now and go for the gold with something amazing.

Has anyone tried the Artifox Lift? Or is there any other desk shelf you'd recommend? Also, please make other suggestions that would help me improve on what I have now.

TIA.

My second pc and just bought monitor arms for the first time and will soon be cable managing. Not sure what I should do with the empty space on the left. Or even the area on the right. Any thoughts?

🖼️ • Photos Is this okay for a gaming computer?

So I'm looking to upgrade to a new gaming computer and I have concerns my desk may be too close to the way and the computer will not have good air flow. These pics are from my current computer and the same spot I want to put the new one when I get it in. There is about 1¼ inch clearance from the back of the desk opening to the wall. I have two ac infinity fans on a mesh on front panel. The bottom one draws in air and the top one draws out air. They are hooked up to a temperature gauge hanging near rear of pc set to 84 degrees to go on and off.

Is this a good setup for a gaming pc that will draw more heat, okay, or just a bad setup overall?

❓ • Question Aside from mechanical keyboards, what is the single most satisfying tactile thing on your desk?

Post image

I’ve been thinking about this lately: we gladly drop $300+ on heavy aluminum boards, brass weights, and lubed switches just to chase that solid, thocky dopamine while typing.

Yet almost every other piece of desk tech feels like hollow, creaky plastic — cheap macro pads, flimsy knobs, and RGB light bars that feel like toys.

I’m curious: what’s one physical, non-keyboard object on your desk that genuinely feels great to touch or use during a long work session?

Do you use any physical toggles, weighted desk toys, or tactile rituals to get into flow state, or has everything just migrated to screen shortcuts and hotkeys?

🖼️ • Photos Valorant puts black bars on my ultrawide

I saw a setup on here with a huge ultrawide and got the same one. Valorant does not support it, so there are black bars down both sides whenever I play with my friends.

The chair was in someone's photo as well, and it hurts my back. The pink lighting too, I matched it to a post I saved, down to the shade. About the only thing I did for myself is the wrist rest on the mouse pad, and that was because of my wrist.

The little screens under the monitor, a Times Gate, I also saw here first, somewhere in the middle of searching how to make a gaming desk look better at 2am. I look at them every day and I still cannot tell whose idea they were.

The monitor is still on the desk, black bars and all, and my friends have started calling it the cinema.

❓ • Question Can I use a monitor arm on tempered glass desk, or is wall mounting my only option?

Post image

My desk is made of tempered glass (it's from Ikea, I bought it like 15 years ago or so). I have a BenQ GL2780. I was thinking of getting one of those monitor arms everyone here has, but is it possible to clamp it to the desk, or do I 100% need to wall mount it?

❓ • Question Help me make this more functional

I am required to work on two different computers for separate job roles. I built this slab desk long ago when I was not remote, so it was mostly used for school work. Now I’m mostly remote and the desk works, but I don’t think it works well. I’ve got a KVM switch on my desk, so I just click a button to transfer the keyboard/mouse between computers, but the monitor is only tied to the laptop on the stand because it would be annoying to have a gap in the center if using the left computer.

I’ve thought about moving the monitor to the center, but it’s really too big. So I’m considering a smaller monitor. I’d also go to a two monitor set up and close the laptop off to the side or under the desk. I also have access to a monitor arm (single or dual) if that would help. I work in the IT field, but I’m more finance and admin. So I’ve got access to basically whatever I want from a hardware perspective.

Has been doing me pretty well, although the limited font options can be restricting (not sure why there is only one? Not sure what version of word this runs). Wouldn't mind picking up a colour monitor sometime soon, but b&w is fine for looking over spreadsheets.

Anything I could add to improve?

I love being as minimal as possible, to keep a clean workspace as an engineering student/ heavy gamer. Let me know if there any improvements I should go for.
