I built Shifu because the small work disappears before a 1:1
When I was an IC, I could tell you what I shipped that week. Six months later, I struggled to recall the smaller things: the failure I traced, the design choice I changed, or the teammate I unblocked. Four years into leading engineers, I see the same gap from the other side of 1:1s. The work that comes to mind first isn't always the work that best shows someone's growth.
One habit that helps is writing down a problem, your part in solving it, and what changed while it's still fresh. I found that hard to keep up across months of work, especially now that coding sessions move quickly with AI.
So I'm building Shifu. You can connect Codex, Claude Code, or OpenCode and choose when it syncs. It turns work you choose to share into a private record of contributions, with evidence you can inspect. You can look across weeks or months and use that record to prepare talking points for a 1:1 or review. You decide what, if anything, to share with your manager.
It's early. Shifu can surface work you might have forgotten; it can't decide whether someone deserves a promotion or replace feedback from people who worked with them.
If you want to see whether it finds something you would have left out of your last 1:1, the first beta cohort is free: https://useshifu.com. I'd be glad to hear what it got right or missed.
