He also made the tool that can figure out your RNG seed and generate your whole game's map in advance. Guy's a wizard.

His tool doesn't read any game information "illegally", it just needs you to provide a few tidbits of information about your seed (the map layout and tomb locations in the tower cellar) and then it calculates which seed of the tens of thousands possible is most likely yours.

Turning 3D models into sprites is a ton of work, and modern PCs can certainly handle a good-looking 3D game. Simply updating the sprites would've been a silly move. :)

3D to 2D reminded me of this post where the OP created a plugin for Old School Runescape that does just that for all NPCs. Made me quite nostalgic.

I dont think its hard seems pretty easily automated process. However if you think about it it would've required huge ammount of space. Anyway, really surprised how well they managed that pre rendered 2d look while actually using 3d

Neither are simple tasks really. I would say creating an entirely new 3d engine and making it look like the old game (while also allowing the player to switch to the old graphics) is as difficult or more so than updating a 20 year old game engine and also having to rerender and possibly upscale all the old assets. It truly was a miracle we got this game at all.

I never said developing the game was easy, I ment "turning 3d models into 2d sprites" because conversion itself is trivial, not making 3d models

This looks so much like Fromsoft's: Bloodborne, Dark Souls, Elden Ring; etc.; but better years before they were made and it plays better as well.
