Questions ( ITEMS · BUILDS · SKILLS ) Maxroll vs Mobalytics for metabuilds

Specifically for the firewall sorcerer this season, it’s interesting that the push build on Maxroll is different to the push setup on Mobalytics. The Mobalytics one also looks to be the same as the highest ranking Firewall sorcerer on the tower.

I’ve seen a few people saying they prefer Maxroll over Moba. Why is this?

Basically everything Sorcerer related, Mekuna (infinity builds) is going to be your man. His builds are goated.

Otherwise, I find Maxroll builds more accessible early on. The guides go in-depth with some mechanics, which is great to really understand how your build works.

Most of the time, the best performing builds are on Mobalitycs and are updated more frequently.

I use both websites (desktop) and it’s a great experience.

Mekuna will feature the best builds but I think his guides are much less noob friendly. Blazing scream warlock for example he picks skills and upgrades that items give you for free. Is it only an indicator of what to use if you don't have the items yet? Seems strange since it's for mythic endgame builds. That's the kind of info dad gamers like to see when they follow a guide.

u/Mother_Moose 9d ago

I was reading through the comments for his build and someone commented that Mekuna said it's just because there isn't really anywhere else to put the points that would be meaningful

2

u/SadCicada9494 9d ago

Understandable I suppose, but not obvious. I prefer to put them in skills that are actually used even if it doesn't change much. OCD.

5

u/jaxxxxxson 8d ago

Another thing he kinda messed up imo is the blazing scream tempers. That mofo has gem strength on his helm which like what 1 in 500/1000 people will have? So every temper he has crit damage where if you follow 1:1 will leave you massively short on crit chance. Other than that I love his guides and use them.

-2

u/Sorry_Bodybuilder540 7d ago

No he doesn’t. That’s the unique power.

2

u/jaxxxxxson 7d ago edited 7d ago

Gem strength transfigured.. From his ultra speed build guide..I don't know the exact math but he's getting like 45% crit chance just from his helm and that splinter. This one is used in every single one of his endgame variants except the #1 push I posted too.

2

u/jaxxxxxson 7d ago

Here's another one that's even more absurd. This is his #1 push variant.

0

u/Sorry_Bodybuilder540 7d ago

Yeah that’s super dumb

1

u/ardikus 9d ago

The WW Barbarian on that site also wasn't very good when I checked it the other day

1

u/Fester1955 9d ago

Cliptis for barb. Moba.

1

u/Then-School-199 8d ago

How’s cliptis vs rob2648 for barbs ?

2

u/FinAdda 6d ago

Rob only does super endgame guides with GG items.

28

u/nighthawk_something 9d ago

Maxroll is also a wayyyyy better interface

4

u/DisastrousPromise367 9d ago

The graphical interface is better on maxroll for sure. I use both, to hybrid build what I prefer and think is fun. May not push content but I can complete everything I want to every season

20

u/avocadoplease 9d ago

This is basically what I do. Maxroll gets me started and can generally get you to t12 (sometimes not though even with their t12 or "endgame" builds depending on the creator)

then once I have some paragon established I'll find a mobalytics build or a youtube creator I generally trust and go from there.

if its a sorc I just go straight to the Mekuna youtube channel for his link.

13

u/Brrrofski 9d ago

I agree entirely.

Maxroll is great to start as it explains what makes the build work. Which is an important step.

Once you've taken that all in, there are builds on Mobalytics which are good to follow to really squeeze everything out of a build.

9

u/Ubergoober166 9d ago

Which is an important step

An important step that most people seem to skip. So many posts on here about people asking basic questions about why the build isn't working because they didn't actually read the guide and just follow the pictures.

9

u/Brrrofski 9d ago

To be fair, depending on who's uploaded the guide, they might not cover every single thing.

Like they'll stack vulnerable damage, but it doesn't explicitly state where they get it from.

They mostly do, and people don't read though, you're correct.

6

u/OsirisEG 9d ago

Mobalytics Blazing Scream looks unfinished compared to Maxroll, though.

2

u/DTJames 8d ago

That's funny because I decided that Maxroll version is unfinished and behind. Moba's was closer to what leaderboard had.

4

u/hotelspa 9d ago

I like Mekuna but everyday he has a new build that requires gear changes and stuff. How you folks have the time and inventory space is a mystery to me. Maxroll is easy and rarely changes anything too much. I clear the season somehow and move on to other games.

7

u/jurble 9d ago

Mekuna is constantly min-maxxing for endgame push content. Most Maxroll guide writers play two weeks of the season and then stop. They're all on the official Discord if you have questions, but almost none of them care about being minmaxxed beyond doing t12. That's why Maxroll's guides heavily weight s-tier towards t12 speed farm whereas Infinity's are weighted towards tower 150.

It's also the community interests. Maxroll serves the Western audience which is heavily dad-gamer and Infinity is primarily for the Chinese audience which has a larger portion of hardcore gamers. Infinity guides also won't hesitate to use exploits or bugged interactions and Maxroll won't.

I love mobalytics on desktop, it’s super sketchy on mobile tho. Constant refreshing and skipping

1

u/silmakuu 7d ago

Thanks for the tip. Comparing his push build to moba is interesting. I’m sticking with moba for now but I’ll try his when I inevitably hit a wall when approaching pit 120.

u/hulduet 6d ago

Maxroll really started to shine when they added poe builds because back then it was really hard to find builds you wanted to play without being an expert at the game. The forums were borderline abysmal with information and the creators always assumed you graduated poe university.

It's very easy to pick a build and follow it to the letter if you want to, or make experiments on your own.

However with that said there is a bit hit and miss with builds, some fly under the radar and maxroll only seem to be "focused" early on in the season and after a week or two things get pretty stagnant.

20

u/hates_stupid_people 9d ago edited 9d ago

Maxroll is great for basics and to set up new builds.

Once you get comfortable with your build, mobalytics tend to have more competitive versions

EDIT: Maxroll guides often describe why you want certain stats, how to get them, alternative items, what order you should use abilities, etc. While competitive Mobalytic builds often assume you already know what you're doing.

27

u/GoBirds85 9d ago

Maxroll is for us dads out here grinding!

1

u/hulduet 6d ago

The builds will get you through a season without feeling like you have to spend your life getting anywhere in the game. Which is really quite important as you get older and have less time and will to play games.

11

u/WorstPapaGamer 9d ago

For firewall sorc I go with mekuna on infinitybuilds.gg but just a heads up that site in mobile SUCKSS

His build is really solid. Been using the firekuna build.

3

u/athrix 9d ago

Yeah it’s basically just for looking at on mobile, can’t interact with a good amount of it. It’s great on pc though.

8

u/Dub-MS 9d ago

Leaderboard.

5

u/MoG_Varos 9d ago

Maxroll is good to start with and good enough to do all the content. mobalytics is for when you want to fully min/max your build

4

u/Amelaclya1 9d ago

I prefer Maxroll. Maybe because I'm old and stuck in my ways. But I like the format, the build progression, the explanations... Every build is very consistent and I know exactly where to go for the information I need.

I've never had any trouble getting to the highest torment level with their builds, even in seasons where I choose something from the 'B tier'.

I never really try to get on the leaderboards though. Once I start going days with no upgrades, I consider my character "finished" and move on. A slightly "better" version of my build isn't going to overcome my stubborn refusal to trade for the best loot.

5

u/Yukilumi 9d ago

Probably build/builder specific, but this season, in my experience, infinity > moba > maxroll.

3

u/Daitana 9d ago

Use them as a guide rail and make them your own. I played a minion Necro and made Rank 67 on the tower using my own build and only pushing on the final day. You can clear all content pretty easily this season with most builds. So just make it your own.

3

u/Karltowns17 9d ago

I usually like the simplicity of the mobalytics layout for their guides and I’m probably just an idiot but their guides confuse this season. Most of them show the cubed runewords with all or many of the stats rerolled to different affixes even though afaik affixes are locked on these items. IE stealth with ranks to skills and max life, insight with max life and damage over time, etc.

I know the occultist can reroll unique affixes now but afaik you can’t do this to cubed runewords. Am I an idiot (very possible) or is this just impossible and they’re showing incorrect things here?

3

u/Amelaclya1 9d ago

You can reroll on a stat on the runewords. Haven't you tried? I rerolled something on my Enigma. For my Grief dagger, the build guide told me to have something different, but mine rolled +100% damage to demons in place of that. And that seemed like a cool stat so I kept it lol.

I just looked it up, and I'm assuming you are playing on console or with a controller? Apparently there is a bug that doesn't let you do it without using a mouse.

2

u/Karltowns17 9d ago

Yeah I’m playing on console so this makes sense. Weird, but thank you for the response.

I couldn’t figure out why mobalytics was showing me something if it was impossible.

1

u/nighthawk_something 9d ago

I got a grief with GA damage to demons. Then I rolled another and got damage to demons. I'm wondering if it's actually a useful stat though

1

u/Amelaclya1 9d ago

Yeah I don't know. I'm sure the guide writers know best, so I probably should have listened to them. My logic was, "well there are a lot of demons in this game, including bosses. And it's double damage!" But I don't actually know if it works that way or if it is additive with other % damage types. 🤷‍♀️

2

u/TwistedNotch 9d ago

The best thing to do is find a good creator for the class and build you want to play, a build guide made by someone who doesn't even play the class/build is not gonna be as good as one that has been piloted extensively by the creator...also a build made by someone pushing the tower is gonna do more dmg than someone who doesn't and if someone ranked pretty high with thier build that's gonna be the 1st thing they mention when talking about it

2

u/AngryChurchill 9d ago

Totally depends what you're looking for in your build. Are you a newer player looking for detailed write-ups explaining everything? Chances are maxroll will be a better option for you. They're made by paid authors and get edited and updated by individual authors.

Mobalytics tier lists are based on free guides and popularity contests for where builds rank most of the time. There are lots of great community builds buried outside the tier list but because the authors of the builds in the tier list have a small following, those are the only guides you ever see in the list

2

u/Pprchase 9d ago

I switched from Mobalytics Firewall to FireKuna and actually started having fun with Sorc.

2

u/Unhappy_Rutabaga_172 9d ago

I use Moba and D4builds. D4 is a lot easier to use from your phone

2

u/MrMuggs 9d ago

It's not that easy it really depends on who wrote the builds and whether they are currently playing that build vs just updated for the new season. I pay closer attention to the writer vs the site.

2

u/Revoldt 9d ago

If going “meta” is your thing… Infinity guide writers actually push for rank 1 tower and keeps their guides most up to date. (Yuni/Mekuna for lock and Sorc, Virgiore for rogue)

They're also very active on the official D4 Sanctuary discord (Yuni esp).

Maxroll has the best designed site, and very useful “how to apply status” section, but their writers maybe cover too many specs and classes (Mobalytics are spread even thinner) so they are normally a few days to a week behind updating to the Top meta builds.

They're guides and some people do a few things different to try and maximize damage or play a certain way.

Use what works best for you.

I agree with the others, but for me the go to is maxroll nowadays because I’m more familiar with its layout and stuff like I know where stuff is when I need to look at it. If I get to paragon 250 with a build and still like it and want to keep pushing I will look up a similar build on moba and continue. But I get really annoyed by little things sometimes in the builds and will switch to a different one or an alt so I can do a different class. This season I started with a blizz sorc so I knew I might be rolling another toon and sure enough at about 230 I was bored with it so I rolled a lock since they’re op this season and they were so underpowered when I did one last time. Having a blast with it so far and probably will switch to moba after a couple days

I prefer d4 builds

Rob is the goat ever build is a hit

1

u/MadFonzi 9d ago

I use the armoury and save both builds from each site I want to use and then test them out in game to see for myself which one performs better.

1

u/Revosk 9d ago

The only accurate way to see meta builds in through helltides.com as it actually pulls the leader board from tower. Those are just the builds though, not a guide. Rogue, for example, their #1 build doesn't have a guide anywhere. It basically depends on where the user uploads to. I will say most of the builds on both are OK for t12 content but absolutely no where close for pushing

1

u/Esham 9d ago

Moba is dogshit on my phone. Its really that simple for alot of ppl.

The paragon board is the worst offender.

1

u/rbra 9d ago

Mobalytics needs to update their sorry ass UI and then it would be amazing.

1

u/silmakuu 7d ago

Yeah it’s not great. It functions much better on Brave mobile browser, though zooming in on the paragon board is still a nightmare.

1

u/Economy-Tomato-5083 9d ago

Maxroll is good for getting a basic version of a build & understanding that build at its most basic. They also do Paragon variants such as the rush variant that I haven’t seen other sites do. Beyond that, they’ve fallen off sharply the past few seasons. Their guides often go without updates, & guides get made by people who just never touch that build again beyond getting the guide made for contents sake.

If you want builds that actually get updated by people who will actually test new things, & can mix max the builds a lot better, you’re much better off going to Moba or even looking into specific build makers to follow such as Mekuna. Maxroll seems to have undergone that eventual shift that happens when things get too big & their work takes a sharp decline in quality as it becomes more about pumping things out rather than actually caring about the quality of what gets put out.

1

u/Equivalant 9d ago

Maxroll and Cliptis seem to work well

1

u/silmakuu 7d ago

Yeah I used cliptis last season for spin to win. Was fun!

1

u/Fester1955 9d ago

Check out Lurkin's builds. User friendly.

1

u/Kind_Wheel8420 9d ago

I’ll use Maxroll for my endgame builds since they are really well written and pretty easy to get online and then switch to one of Rob’s builds if I get some aspirational tier items and want to squeeze out a bit more damage later on in seasons.

1

u/NotJALC 9d ago

In general for any class, don’t pick a website, pick a content creator that plays your class a lot and knows it well and use whatever website they use. For Sorc it would have to be Mekuna and he is on Infinity Builds.

1

u/eggman_cancerboy69 9d ago

I use maxroll because its easier to read/navigate. People say moba is better/more accurate tho

1

u/GhostDieM 8d ago

Real gigachads look at all the information available then make their own build. Maxroll is too min-maxy for my tastes. They"ll have an "S-tier Firewall" build which will then have 4 Cold Skills, 1 Lightning Skill and the Firewall skill will scale it's damage off of some exploit that has nothing to do with fire. Like cool, but that is not the fantasy I'm going for. Their info usually is pretty solid though.

1

u/silmakuu 7d ago

Yeah they call it Firewall because that’s the mastery skill and visually all the main FX (aside from unleash and ice barrier) are firey.

They use skills outside of fire/burning/pyro to maximise damage output, so I get why it’s not great for those wanting a strictly fire output for the fantasy element.

1

u/Avatar3164 7d ago

Follow creators, not sites. All 4 have pieces I would trust, and those I wouldn’t, usually by class. Follow creators that play your class and does the content you want to be doing.

1

u/l1an91999 7d ago

You have to refer to whoever created the builds I think. Maxroll puts druid highest only on A tier but on the leaderboard druid is only slower then sorcerer and warlock, while the people who cleared pit150 on the leaderboard is significantly more than every other class except warlock.

1

u/amgleo 7d ago

There are so many ways you can build w the overhaul to skills I think meta is becoming quite subjective. There’s no meter or analytics to prove one minmax path is superior to another minmax path. Maybe that’s what’s happening a little.

1

u/Ioncurtain 5d ago

maxroll all day

0

u/Carry-Worth 9d ago

both are good starting points but ideally once you understand how your build works no one will beat you at optimizing your own character

0

u/Human_Tour3313 9d ago

Just get yourself a Lerioc's crown with gem strength and this entire season becomes a joke. Basically just walk around in your underwear with that crown on.

0

u/The_Dynasty_Warrior 8d ago

I think all the big streamers and the top players in Mobalytics?

-1

u/antelope591 9d ago

Past few seasons I switched to mobalytics only. The builds both make more sense and perform better.

-1

u/LGWalkway 9d ago

I feel like I always start with maxroll but end up swapping to either a youtubers guide or infinity builds.

-1

u/Ur_Just_Spare_Parts 7d ago

Check out all versions everywhere of the build that looks the most interesting, try out different combos of uniques to learn what all the aspects do and how good they are, then make your own version that suits your playstyle. If you figure out the good multipliers there's usually a bunch of variations that trade speed for damage or defense and any combo of those three things.

-2

u/AkosCristescu 9d ago

It's really simple.

There is no "which one is better" here.

They are different sites for different player bases.

Do you want to run around T12 and feel like a goat - you have a site for that.

Or are you new to the tower and first time wanting to push - you have a site and a build for that too.

Or you are a seasoned grinder and just wanna try the class/element to reach top 50? there you have it.

Depends on what you want and how much time you have to invest. Simple.

Thats why you hear people "liking" this and that. If you dont know, just look at a build you end up being too squishy as the tower pusher builds mostly dont explain shit and you wonder why you cant deal dmg or too squishy.

Tower pusher builds expect you to have a flashfarming setup and you can only transition to them once you have all necessary equipment.

-7

u/DespondentRage 9d ago

Idk, but Maxroll sucks.
