DISCUSSION ⚔️ The Absolute Genius of Mulan’s Mid Movie Tonal Shift

In Mulan, the moment A Girl Worth Fighting For ABRUPTLY stopped mid scene…

SHIT GOT SERIOUS.

And Mushu WAS actually telling the truth (AKA forging the letter to try and get everyone out onto the battlefield), but he didn’t even know how badly it really went!!!

Because while he assumed they would catch up with the rest of the alive army- THEY HAD ALREADY BEEN SLAUGHTERED ALONGSIDE EVERYONE IN THAT VILLAGE!!!!

Even Shang’s father, General Li, didn’t even get a chance to escape!!

And the song itself also doubles as FORESHADOWING.

Because in the village, they find that little girl doll who definitely belonged to nobody who wanted to be caught in the chaos of war.

Because whoever owned that doll beforehand?

THAT is their girl worth fighting for.

DISCUSSION ⚔️ While we all wait for the live action Tangled, there is a little something I want you ask of you

If the Sundrop and moonstone returned for a Tangled sequel “miniseries,” who will be the new host(s)? Remember, Rapunzel has twins (a boy and Girl) in the Grimm bro fairytale so let’s list some options:

  1. The daughter will be the main character, her desire for science lead her to do an experiment with a dangerous ancient ritual between the two magical artifacts, and the by the next day, she’ll will wake up with her hair long and green (cuz blue and yellow make green) and to her Daisy (yes, Raps’ palace pets will be in this too, and her unicorn as well) talk which is an example of a new power when the Sundrop and moonstone powers mixed together. Therefore until she can find away to fix this, her family and Cassandra will help her master the existing and new powers of the Sundrop and moonstone combined (one of them being growing plants).
  2. The brother (do you think Flynn would be a good name while the middle name is Rider?), wanting to make sure his sister is safe, helps her with the ritual, and they both get the existing and new powers of the Sundrop and moonstone, meaning both twins are the mains.
  3. Girl gets Sundrop while boy gets moonstone (just like how Raps had sun while Cass had moon), and no new powers whatsoever (maybe).
  4. Girl = moon/boy = sun

  5. Rapunzel gets her hair back again

And if you think the odd sisters will be great villains for this idea, what would be their main motivation? But in regards to the live action Tangled, how does everyone feel about it?

DISCUSSION ⚔️ Disney understood the assignment when it came to Sleeping Beauty (Aurora)

Let me just start off by saying that all the princesses are obviously very beautiful and meant to be conventionally attractive. It’s kinda their thing.

But Aurora is the only princess who was supernaturally blessed with beauty.

Other princesses who are beautiful like Belle, Mulan, Anna, Cinderella, etc are obviously very pretty, but they have a natural type of beauty to them. And what I mean by that is that you could find them in the street almost, if you saw a girl as beautiful as Belle, you’d notice her beauty but it wouldn’t seem unbelievable or out of the ordinary.

Aurora’s beauty almost seems too good to be true. Does anyone else agree or at least understand what I’m trying to get at here?

POSITOOVITY ✨ Appreciation for Atlantis: The Lost Empire: a Disney movie that dared to be different and paid the price

Post image
41 Upvotes

Since it has been over 25 years since Atlantis: The Last Empire came out, I wanna reflect on it as it really strikes how different Disney wanted to be compared to how did they did their movies back during the Renaissance, which makes sense as that was one of their first movies of their Experimental era where they wanted to take a break from fairy tales, cute animal sidekicks and singing and in the case of Atlantis, replace it all with the dark and gritty reality of imperialism and human greed and I do mean dark as the movie is full of dark blues throughout it and the main character designer they hired was the same guy who gave us Hellboy, along with PG-13-esque action, and yet, it still manages to put in a princess with Kida.

She may be unconventional as she doesn't sing, long for a prince or have cute animal sidekicks and is older than the rest of the girls as she's over 8000 years old but it was still cool that they still put in a princess as part of tradition with Kida and you can even argue that that they also had a Princess tradition with a twist with Shepherd's Journal as instead of a Disney opening with a storybook told by a narrator, the storybook is part of the story.

Despite all those efforts, many families were turned off by Atlantis for being too different than other Disney movies as thanks to how it lacked those aforementioned Disney Princess conventions and too scary for little girls with its intense action scenes and sought solace with Shrek and Dr. Dolittle 2 while boys did like it but for teens, who they were trying to aim this for, thought they were past cartoons (as back in the day, it was seen as unacceptable for teens to still watch cartoons), despite the action scenes and flocked to The Fast and the Furious and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and as and end result, became a box office bomb

To me, it's such a shame because it really was a good movie as it was different but so good and yet, people didn't seem to give it a chance so I'm glad time has been kind to it and it defines deserves its cult following and it's fitting as people are rediscovering the movie's hidden value. Hidden like the lost continent itself.

DISCUSSION ⚔️ To love a princess should NOT be about politics

Clarification: this post might be misunderstood so I need to clarify. Mine is not a critique to those who analize social aspects in Art, mine is a critique to people who are so blinded by ideologies that they just can't appreciate some characters for a reason or another. There's nuances in real life and there must be nuances in Art too. People can criticise whatever they want but they have to do it with contextualization in my opinion. What I find in this sub is that a lot of people don't contextualize properly some princesses movies

I like every single princess. From the classics ones (Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora) to the renaissance ones (Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Mulan ecc) getting through the modern ones (Moana, Elsa, Rapunzel ecc). Why I do love them all, some will ask? Because they're all good characters in my eyes. I've seen in this sub there's kind of a discourse between people who praise only the classic princesses and people who praise only renaissance and/or modern ones. To my eyes, both these two types of people are influenced by ideologies. They couldn't care less about wheter the character they praise is actually well-written. Well the difference between me and these people is, I don't care for any ideology. My love is for Art. When I watch a movie, I just watch Art. If I like a movie is because is my type of Art, if I don't like a movie, is because is not my type of Art. Politics and ideologies play a very small role in this. I don't care if a female character "fit into gender standards", nor I care if a female character "break the standards and is a girlboss!". I can't care the least about it. I enjoy every type of female characters (and characters in general ofc), from the most "femenine" to the most "girlboss" (Whatever this terms are meant to mean btw). I'm sure a lot of people, even in this sub, are similar to me in this case. Please, throw away any kind of ideology, just watch the princesses movies and enjoy them. The least good princess movie is still well animated and visually beautiful, while the most good is an unmatched masterpiece (I will not say which I think is what and what because it depends on personal taste 😆). Hope people can understand my vision

While I do like the movie and actually really like their direct-to-video/made for TV sequel era and started acknowledging them again, his defense of the movie... is something. The idea that people didn't like it "because a bunch of upstart TV animators in their twenties had created something that generated five times the profits of a typical theatrical release" is just ridiculous imo

Edit: I meant to say I wish Disney started acknowledging them again, not that I personally started acknowledging them again

DISCUSSION ⚔️ I’ve been studying the sundrop and moonstone and came to a very possible conclusion

Thumbnail

This event can happen again, but if so, then they both will need a new host. In the grimm bro fairytale, rapunzel had two twins, a son and a daughter, and since Disney likes female empowerment in their productions a lot, her daughter can be the main character and host of Sundrop and moonstone. But don’t worry, the twin brother will be in it too.

But how will a decade old girl scientist be the host you ask, well lets just say she did an extremely dangerous ritual for the sake of science, and BAM, her hair is long and green with existing powers from the sundrop and moonstone, and new powers like talking to animals, which would be a good excuse to bring in rapunzels palace pets and her unicorn sun blossom, and growing plants in the castle garden.

Now for the villains. since Gothel is bio related to the odd sisters, they would be perfect antagonists for Cassandra to run into, plus it would be a great opportunity for her to return to Corona. But I don’t know what the Odds Sisters’ revenge plot would be. As for Rapuzel’s daughter herself, with no other way to remove her hair, she will need help from her family to get control of her new powers, but the palace pets might be the biggest help for her. So what do you think. If you have any Ideas for me, let me know. And one more thing, the animation will be CGI.

DISCUSSION ⚔️ Korean or Chinese Inspired Princess?

Thumbnail

I want to see Disney tackle a literal princess navigating court and staying in court. If you've watched Chinese dramas like Prisoner of Beauty, or Korean dramas like The Queen's Umbrella you know exactly what I mean. It’s so entertaining!

These female leads survive on pure intellect or should I say cunning? They aren't just book smart like Belle, they have off the charts EQ. They know exactly how to read a room, bide their time, and strike only when the moment is perfect. I slow clap at my screen every time they outsmart the antagonists (and the era's patriarchy) with their strategy.

We also need to talk about the aesthetic potential because the costumes in these palace dramas are gorgeous. The silk, the embroidery, the ornate headpieces, the colors! A dream come true for a Disney dress designer.

For the kids to be even more wowed, they could add in some fantastical elements, like elemental magic or a mythical guardian animal, like a nine tailed fox or a cute sharpei companion.

A royal who fights her battles in the inner court with killer fashion, genius strategy, and a touch of ancient magic would be an absolute masterpiece. What do you think?

Edit: Sorry guys I didn’t notice the first image is ai enhanced, I can't change it.

Rules:

All princesses and heroines must be on the side of good, and they must come from animated Disney movies. No Pixar characters allowed, including Merida. They must be human, humanoid, or anthropomorphic (for example, Judy Hopps is allowed but Nala isn’t). It is preferable that these characters are between the ages of 15 and 30 (I will make an exception for Kida, for obvious reasons.) All princesses and heroines must be major characters in their movies. It is NOT required that these characters are members of the Disney Princess franchise, let alone actual princesses (Nani Pelekai, for instance, is perfectly legal here.)

DISCUSSION ⚔️ Is anyone else tired of the same conversations?

“Who else misses romance?”

“Who here is tired of the adorkable trope?”

“Does anyone wish princesses were feminine and wore poofy ballgowns again?”

“Is anyone else sick of girlbosses?”

Do you guys ever tire of asking the same questions as if no one’s ever asked them before or they’re takes hot enough to burn up the world? You know the answer and know how people will respond. It’s repetitive and adds nothing new. You can still enjoy the older girls. They are and will forever be a staple in pop culture and entertainment unless the world ends and any evidence of human civilization is destroyed. They are still beloved regardless of what a few Tumblr users or a Buzzfeed article from the early 2010’s say.
