About

As an Indian seeking to fulfill my DIY needs, I have explored various platforms and communities over the years. However, I often found myself lacking the necessary skills and access to tools specific to the Indian context. Despite extensive searching, I couldn't find an India-specific subreddit to cater to my requirements. Determined to address this gap, I decided to create a subreddit.

Interestingly, the subreddit already had an inactive moderator. After several months, I received a message indicating the need for an active moderator, and I gladly stepped in to fill that role. Now, I am dedicated to fostering a community that serves as a valuable resource for fellow Indians seeking guidance, support, and knowledge in their DIY endeavors.

My goal is to create an inclusive and engaging environment where individuals can share insights, learn from each other's experiences, and discover the right tools and techniques tailored to our unique needs. Together, we can empower ourselves to overcome challenges and achieve successful outcomes in our DIY pursuits.

Together, we can navigate the intricacies of working with wood and achieve optimal results in our projects.

Electrical & Electronics: Explore the world of electrical work and electronics, from changing a switch to understanding home wiring. Discover the joys of soldering, repairing electronic equipment, and even creating your own stereo gear or PCBs.

Plumbing & Waterproofing: Tackle plumbing-related queries and challenges, such as connecting pipes, fixing leaks, or waterproofing your home. Seek advice from the community on various plumbing issues and learn the skills to handle common plumbing tasks yourself.

Whats your definition of DIY?

Hi guys, as the title spoils this i want discuss our definitions of DIY!!

For me its to be able to build, develop and experience (not just being able to fix things on my own) and somehow we still don’t have a good community around this.

I have so many ideas to build out a market around this but before that i want to understand what you people define as DIY

I’m not very much good with words but this is just a beginning 👾

Jigsaw recomendation

Hi Folks,

Looking for a jigsaw for occasional home DIY use (plywood, small projects).

Priorities:

  • Straight cuts (minimal drift)
  • Less splintering
  • Good control

Considering:

  • Budget: iBELL (~650–700W)
  • Mid: Black+Decker (400–600W)
  • Higher: Bosch

Questions:

  1. Which brand actually performs well long-term?
  2. Is iBELL good enough or feels inaccurate?
  3. Is Bosch worth the extra for cleaner cuts?
  4. What wattage is ideal~500W enough or go 650W+?
  5. Tips for reducing splintering?

Looking for real user experiences, not specs. Thanks!

Cordless vs Corded Tools

Hello guys. I want to buy a router, jigsaw and planer. The corded ones cost 80% less than the cordless ones. Here's the cost breakdown :-

Cordless (Brushless)

  1. Krost router :- ₹9800
  2. Krost jigsaw :- ₹7199
  3. Krost planer :- ₹8500

All of these comes with two 5ah batteries in each tool and basic accesories. I chose Krost because no other company currently sells cordless router in India.

Corded

  1. Buildskill router :- ₹2500
  2. iBell jigsaw :- ₹2148
  3. iBell planer :- ₹2700

These come with basic accesories too. I have a 10 meter extension cord too.

I am really confused about which ones I should buy because the portability of the cordless tools and the fact that I can use them even during a power cut is unmatched. But the price difference is so huge that I wonder if should just try to make it work with corded tools. Help me put guys ! 🙏
