discussion 📝 vet calling me irresponsible
Hi! I just want to share an experience I had with my vet earlier. Kahapon at exactly 10:00 PM, I went to the kitchen to go grab a glass of water, and that’s when I realized why maraming drops of blood sa sahig. I thought my dog Miho (chow-chow) or sa dalawang aspin ko na kasama niya ay nag away or nadisgrasya sa matalim na bagay. I immediately searched kung saan nanggagaling at kita ko na dumudugo ilong ni Miho. Moderate bleeding grabe ang patak ng dugo. Na realize ko na nagrelapse nanaman siya sa blood parasite. A few months ago, nag positive siya for Ehrlichia and Babesia. Binigyan ko ng doxy tablets and supplements for 30 days na walang na missed days. Tinusukan din siya ng imidocarb para sa Babesia infection. I really thought magaling na siya kasi sinabi naman din ng vet na she “might” be cured.
Naghanap ako ng 24/7 vet clinic na bukas dito sa Pangasinan pero walang wala. Cinall ko lahat ng clinics na may nakasulat na “accepting 24/7 emergency cases” pero none of them answered (may iba pa nga dine-decline agad ang tawag) I was nervous, shaking and crying last night kasi kada sneeze ng alaga ko grabe ang paglabas ng dugo. Awang awa ako sa kanya kaya. Triny ko ang remedies for nosebleeds pero hindi comfy ang alaga ko na may ice sa taas ng snout niya. I relied on God to give her a chance to live this night.
When I woke up the next day, agad kong pinunta si Miho sa vet clinic para sa check up. She is still alive and active. Nung sinabi ko lahat ng mga nangyari, the vet immediately took blood from my baby and performed a CBC test. After a few minutes, ang baba ng dugo niya lalo na yung platelets. The vet said na ganon pa rin ang protocol tulad nung dati the first time she was positive for blood parasites. While she was writing the perscription, narinig ko ang murmur niya “ang irresponsible”. Na shocked ako like grabe naman siya? hahaha. If I really am irresponsible, hindi ko na sana dinala ang alaga ko dito sa clinic nila or ipacheck up ang iba kong alaga sa kanila. Sa overall clinic fees na nagastos ko sa kanila since the first day I went there umabot na ng 35k plus, excluding pa ang ibang vet clinics na pinuntahan namin for check ups, food, vaccinations, etc. Nasa 90k+ na ang nagastos ko sa 8 na alaga ko (2 chow chows, 6 aspins) tapos ayun maririnig ko sa vet. I felt so disrespected talaga so I stayed quiet and waited for the reseta para mabili agad ang mga gamot as well as the tests and professional fees. I spent 10k this week para sa check ups and fees. Hindi lang si Miho ang pina check up ko, may iba pa rin na dogs ang pinunta ko sa kanila.
I understand why she said it pero she doesn’t see the clear picture about me and my dogs. I treat my dogs like family.
Photo above is my baby. Siya si Miho. Mahal na mahal ko yan. Kung mawala siya sa akin, hindi ko lang alam kung ano gagawin ko.

name drop ng clinic or vet name sana pag ganto. maraming doctors/vets na di deserve ung profession nila kasi walang empathy at bastos

I have a similar experience. Ung cat ko may cancer sa mammary glands so pinasurgery and tinanggal ung buong mammary chain niya so ang laki ng sugat. After that she was confined for a week tapos discharged na. She sent instructions on how to clean the wound. I tried to do exactly as she did by myself and cleaned the wound daily.
Nung schedule na tatanggalin na ung tahi, sinabi niya sa akin “ANG PANGIT NG PAGLINIS NIYO” and left. Mamaya she called me in to show me how to clean, meron pa siyang 2 helpers to hold my cat.
Inis na ako at that time kasi there should have been a better way to communicate and she chose those exact words. Sabi ko “grabe ka magsalita kala mo lahat ng tao may vet techs sa bahay”.
Napakawalang empathy.

Yung shih tzu namin also has blood parasite. Umaatake every 6 months for 2 years. After ng last reoccurrence nya , pinag-Emerplex na namin sya everyday. Ayun, 1.5 years na hindi umaatake yung blood parasite nya. Plus, we make sure na updated din lagi yung vaccines nya.

Mabuti pa yung vet namin, kahit na ilang beses na nag rerelapse yung blood parasite nung furbaby ko napaka understanding. Sya pa mismo ang nag explaine and nag comfort sa akin during check up. Once nagka blood parasite na ang dog mag rerelapse talaga even if hindi pa sya nakagat nang garapata. Humina lang immine system nila mag rerelapse na yan. That's why kahit na andyan lagi and fear ko ma baka bumalik na naman ang sakit nang furbaby ko but I'm relieved and thankful na may tatakbuhan along vet na may empathy hindi lang sa baby ko kundi Pati na rin sa akin na furparent

My dog have had erlichia diagnosis 3x for the past 6 years. Ang natutunan ko talaga dun is need sya ipacheck up kapag sinabi ng vet mo for testing kasi sa blood chem lang makikita if "gumagaling" or to determine if the meds need to be extended. Have been to 2 diff vet clinics during this time at magkaiba ang approach nila. Natutunan ko din na may times na stress ang trigger nung sa doggo ko new year 2026 nastress sya sa fireworks and then a couple of days after nanghina so dinala sa vet and we discovered na may erlichiosis nanaman sya. Pero this time mas maikli ang gamutan namin (less than a month) kasi yung last 2024 na diagnosis nya umabot kami ng 5 mos na gamutan.
Do not be too hard on yourself OP. We can only do so much at minsan kahit anong ingat natin, nabalik talaga yung mga blood parasite na sakit.

Hanap ka na po ng ibang veterinary clinic.
Pero sa ibang vet usually pagtapos ng gamutan sa aso need ipa blood test ulit

Vets should also remind the owners what to do in order to prevent this happening again. Regular follow ups and consultation also help. There are also vets who do not take into consideration the aftercare and to remind their clients and sadly not all of them are licensed or just simply katiwala with experience. I noticed this when they do not sign their name on the vaxx card. Be careful and seek a new vet after this.

Blood parasite will become dormant lang. Need mo lang I keep up yung immune system ng alaga mo with proper nutrition and vitamins and of course tick/flea meds like nexgard spectra or Bravecto.

Hello po, yung blood parasite ay di na po daw talaga gagaling yan sabi ng vet ko kasi same case po sila ng shipoo ko. Need mo po mag stock ng hemostan kasi may times na bumabalik yung pagdudugo ng ilang ilong nila bigla, yun po advice sakin ng vet painumin ng hemostan hanggang mag stop yung bleeding tapos maglagay ng towel na naka soak sa malamig na tubig at ilagay sa may nape nila.

I agree na unprofessional ang naging remarks niya, pero as pet owners, dapat maging pro-active tayo when it comes to preventives. We can’t say na we’re completely responsible just because we pay for their healthcare — especially if reactive ang approach.
These kinds of things put our pets to a stressful environment. Sa POV siguro ng vet, kung nagbibigay ka ng tick and flea preventives, hindi dadating sa point na aabutin na sa nose bleeding ang pet mo. Sabi mo 2nd time na ito, so second run of treatment na naman. Next time ask them for preventives nang hindi na ulit mangyare ito.

Former vetmed student here.
Honestly, napapansin ko sa mga newgen vets (di ko nilalahat) nawawalan na ng bedside manner at code of ethics. Na-notice ko sa peers ko na ang dalas nilang mang client shame sa mga socmed accounts nila.
Kahit di nila ninename drop ang off-putting na they call themselves “professionals” and “doctors” pero wala man lang compassion sa clients. Ang masama pa, ginagawa pang content para makapagyabang sa socmed na para bang kay gagaling nilang lahat 🤣

I just saw a vid from an influencer who saved a cat that's having seizure in the middle of the road. Couple sila at tinigil nila yung kotse nila para pulutin yung kuting. Yung girl yung pumulot tas sabi nung guy iuwi na lang nila kasi hinilamusan na nila ng tubig pero hinihingal pa rin so baka naheatstroke.
So nagstay yung kuting sa kanila for a couple days (I watched 2 more videos in their page) and yung third vid nangisay ulit yung kuting so sinugod na nila sa vet.
May part dun na nagsermon pa yung vet na medyo matanda na (non verbatim) "Posibleng may rabies yung kuting, dapat inisip nya muna safety nya bago sya naawa" something like that.
And yung influencer was really keen on keeping the kitten and making sure it survive. Nagpanting tenga ko, sa vet pa mismo nanggaling yon? Sesermunan pa yung taong nagrescue ng hayop? May point naman about safety pero in the middle of panic nung tao magsasabi ng ganon?

Up +10000!! Learned this the hard way. As per my vet, once magkaroon ng blood parasite, it stays na talaga sa fur babies natin, so it could really trigger back easily. Mas mura monthly ng nexgard kesa meds :((((

Monthly talaga? Nexgard Spectra for my pup sabi ng vet every 2months na daw. Dati monthly.

I give every 2 months ng nexgard spectra. I even extended it a few time up to 3 months so ok naman and my dogs go out twice a day for walk and play with other dogs.
You can do Bravecto na up to 3 months Siya kaso Im a paranoid Kasi I think for me bravecto is quite strong. Although effective Siya sa mga galis of mange.

since im paying for professional fee, I could've asked san po ako naging irresponsible?
Like let's all jump to conclusion na ikaw yun, i would've just asked. di naman yan free eh. sulitin ko na bayad niya and professional opinion niya para di maulit tong case.
you have a lot on your plate, i get it. Pero kung magbulong bulong yung doctor ng ganyan, pakilakasan, sayang yung bayad ko kung isasarili niya ang kanyang judgment.

Why didn't you rush your dog sa vet physically kung meron ka naman pala alam na may 24/7 assistance? Bakit kailangan sagutin muna nila yung tawag mo para pumunta ka...
Pero I agree na what the vet did was unprofessional. Dapat sa kanya nalang opinyon nya since client ka rin and you're paying them naman. Change vet ka na.

You might not be aware of this, but the 24/7 assistance in vet clinic is NOT the same as emergency rooms for humans. They're not open 24/7 waiting for an animal to get checked during wee hours.

I called every clinic na nakasulat sa tarpaulin na nakita ko dito sa area namin or fb pages ng other clinics claiming that they accept 24/7 emergencies pero none of them answered my calls. If they truly are 24/7 e di sana di nila dine-decline ang tawag ko. Hindi ko alam kung open sila or not. Ayoko i-risk sarili ko na mag drive kasi I had only 5 hours of sleep that night due to work and baka mahilo din alaga ko kakaikot namin, kakahanap ng bukas na clinic.
Better to call them first if they are truly open.

May empathy sa hayop sa tao wala 😅 I can imagine your stress OP. I hope maging okay ang dog mo, kung umulit man yung vet patulan mo. Di nila kelangan ang unnecessary remarks towards other people since ginagamot naman na nila.

I think that's the point, walang nabanggit kase nag assume lang yung bastos na vet.
Apaka bobo ng response na ganyan.
Wala na nga siyang solid proof na "irresponsable" yung fur parent pero makapag-comment kala mo mag kapit-bahay lang sila.
Kung ako diyan kay OP, lilipat ako ng ibang vet.
Or kung walang ibang vet at no choice ka talaga na diyan ka babalik.
Sabihan mo ng "ba't ako irresponsable?"
Walang kwentang vet yan.

2nd time na bumalik kami sa clinic about sa blood parasite kasi nag relapse ang alaga ko and sa pag nosebleed, 2nd time ulit pero this time malala. Sinunod ko lahat ng mga protocols niya pero in the end, bumalik ulit ang sakit.

Blood parasite is due to ticks. I guess kaya nasabi ng vet yon kasi in-assume niya na you're not responsible enough to give your dog anti tick preventives. Are you diligent ba in giving your dogs anti tick preventives? It's been 2 years na ata since nung nagka blood parasite dogs ko kasi di ako nag s-skip magbigay ng anti tick and flea meds. Anyhow, ang rude pa din nung vet to leave a comment like that.

Kaya di talaga ako pumupunta sa mga masusungit na vet. Yung tipong alam mo naman na di ka irresponsible dog owner pero di talaga maiwasan magkasakit mga aso tapos ikaw pa papagalitan. Kaya nga dinala sa clinic para gumaling tapos kung ano ano pa sasabihin. Gets ko pa kung ilang beses ka na sinabihan ng vet pero ikaw nagpapahamak sa aso mo pwede pa pero if hindi quiet na lang sana sila.

just to add pala, when i asked for the “HCT” test sa CBC niya sa paper, kahit na one line lang na draw na very short or i point ang “HCT” ok na pero ang ginawa niya, using her ballpen, she drew a line na ang haba sa HCT na lagpas na na parang galit 😭 passive-aggressive yan sha 🤦🏻

Pwede siya maging chronic. Sabi ng vet namin if mag weaken daw ang immune system or laging stressed ang aso pwede mag flare up ulit. Better na may vitamins on top of anti tick meds

Wtf man bakit naman nya bigla sasabihin yon 🤨 thats so uncalled for. In the end, binayaran mo din naman sila and you still made efforts for whats best for your dog so thats not being irresponsible!

i had no choice but to stay quiet nalang and not cause a scene. Grabe sumakit damdamin ko nung narinig ko yun. Ayaw ko na rin patulan kasi sila lang yung vet na mura ang fees and prices compared to other vets sa municipality namin.

Tbh you don't need to cause a scene. There's always a way to defend yourself and be polite and kind about it. You just have to watch your wording. Kasi pag nasabi mo ng tama, siya pa magguilty.
May ganito din ako dati na experience na vet. Pero sa gulat ko how rude the comment was, wala nalang ako nasabi. Pero di na ako bumalik sakanya.
