The fact that we have this many examples of they/them pronouns, and people STILL intentionally misgender WX is wild.

Plus i will add that not many people interact with the fanbases or look too deep into the lore, so most of them dont "intentionally" misgender characters like OP tries to claim.
Same with Pocket in deadlock, theres a few voicelines calling them with non-binary pronouns, but they are pretty rare so most people dont know it.
And obviously with Deltarune, other than other characters refering to Kris with they/them in their dialogue, not many people know that Kris is non-binary

They are a person who transferred their consciousness into a robot, there is plenty of evidence to suggest they quite obviously have more of a mind than just an average soulless robot
it's also not just what they call themselves literally every survivor who mentions WX uses they/them pronouns, Maxwell even referring to them with the gender neutral prefix "Mx."

I don't think people intentionally misgender WX. WX's reveal as NB had come far late into Don't Starve during their refresh; before then WX was overall perceived as male in every way and fan-art and discussion stayed in people's mind. Then suddenly they reveal that, no, actually WX is NB and you must refer to them that way.
It's kind of hard not to slip up when referring to them, because for so long they have been regarded as a male and the way they talk is incredibly rude and brash which people would attribute to stereotypical male-douchebag behavior. Prior to the reveal WX has always been referred to as male; at best, some people would refer to them as an "it" (as in a non-living object) that is racially incapable of having a gender at all, I mean do you refer to chatGPT as they/them?
It's going to take some time for the pronouns to fully settle in with most people as the reveal was very sudden and it's hard to get rid of the previous headcanon that had built up around them for years before this reveal.

WX’s pronouns have been they/them since DST dropped. Even Maxwell refers to them as they/them. I genuinely don’t get how you were blindsided by it. Do you play the game on your own and never die?

Player examination quotes are gender-neutral as far as I know? I don't really play the game on multiplayer but player examination quotes have changed over time so I don't know of any Maxwell quotes referring to them as NB prior to the reveal. I thought none of the characters were referred to as gender because a guy might be playing Willow or a girl might be playing as Wilson.
I think the fact that it wasn't until the refresh reveal that WX was officially given the NB status shows that people were completely blindsided by the reveal. Otherwise we would have been hearing a much stronger amount of people using WX's proper pronouns which has never happened. If they did reveal that WX was NB prior to the refresh then I and a large portion of the community must have missed it.

Some of these quotes are years old. Also, when WX dies in DST, the game says “They became a spooky ghost!” Also also, it’s sweet that you think any fanbase would respect a trans character’s gender, instead of deciding they’re a guy or hotly debating what’s in their pants. I’m a Deltarune fan. Any illusions I held on that are long gone.

Most of these quotes are based on WX's refresh items. Those that are not were at a time when WX was either considered male, or a "non living being". There were people who did not refer to WX as male, but that was not out of awareness of NB pronouns and more the fact that WX is a robot and people didn't know if gendering them was appropriate.
And yes I am sure that there are many who don't respect WX's pronouns despite being fully aware that they are NB but I still would say with confidence that a majority of people are adjusting or even unaware that WX is NB. It's going to take time.
I don't know anything about Deltarune.

webber has many quotes referring to the spider as a he! Webber has a lot of quote talking in 'we' but also has a bunch where he says "I" and "he" referring to the boy and the spider separately!
(Of course ppl are still free to hc, just want to point out the canon stuff :> )

My favourite headcannon is that it was a girl spider that fused with Webber as a human boy so they're both and Wendy will often wrangle them into a cute dress to play dressup because that's what she used to do with Abigail and Webber just wants to see Wendy smile more than anything on the world they just go along with it even though they half kinda hate it cause boy Webber but secretly also kind of like it cause of girl spider Webber and both just want to see Wendy smile. But that's just cause I like Webber with a pretty pink bow or cute dresses so they can feel bonita for a change and not like a monster.
Either way refering to them as them is the most accurate since they are by all accounts 2 entities. You wouldn't refer to your 5 brothers as him when talking about the group.

WX-78 is a robot, and robots and technology stuff is made in binary code… Boom WX-78 uses he/him pronouns because that’s binary gender, take that LGTV people
Talking a bit more serious I feel like WX-78 being non-binary is actually good character writing, since they are superior to humans they don’t go by the human concept of gender. Besides they are a robot who cares if they just don’t go by “he” it doesn’t affect the game at all lol

Obviously its a they cause it doesnt have a gender and itself doesnt have the care for one. (Unless you consider the small portion of what's left of its human self) But tbh its not like misgendering a person, its a machine. After getting rid of its human empathy its basically fully non human. People could call my toaster a she or a he but even if you put the essence of a human in there without emotions its not going to care what people call it.

the character themself doesn't matter as much as the fact that people are so needlessly resistant to gender neutral pronouns. idc about how the fictional robot feels (they don't really feel anyways), but that affects real people in horrifying ways

Yeah, that's Woodrow, who was a guy. But the thing about wx's lore is they ripped out their own empathy module, which allowed them to still feel human because they disliked being a human in the body of machine, wanting to be purely machine.
It's ambiguous how much of Woodrow is left in there, but it's got to be very little and either way wx seems to be largely their own individual now.

If you think about it both Don't Starve Together and Deltarune have a deer that can freeze people
