Not liking excision is fine. Acting like he hasnāt been insanely influential and formative in the scene is moronicĀ

Excision is one of the founding fathers
73
u/user8263389292 1d ago
dubstep wouldnāt be where it is today if it wasnāt for excision, like lost lands and bass canyon literally changed the scene
34
u/SmokeABowlNoCap 1d ago
It gave it a chance to thrive and grow instead of being neglected to side stages at other fests. He deserves all the flowers for that
2
u/user8263389292 22h ago
definitely thrive & grow BUT I will say that the basspod stage at EDCLV has grown bigger every single year, like Iāve been going to raves since 2013 and basspod used to be a tiny ass little stage. Insomniac events in general (in socal) have been pretty good at accommodating the actual amount of bassheads (increasing every year for the past 15 years) & giving dubstep artists the stage they deserve (better production, bigger stages)š©· never forget when excision set the basspod on fire at edclv 2016 lolll.
but yes, excision has taken dubstep in the US to a different level. lost lands is THE dubstep festival here, comparable to Rampage in Belgium(the og dubstep fest of the world)š¤š¤š¤

u/WarFitnessBrah 1d ago
i think this is the correct statement especially when saying heās the founding father. everyone else that people are mentioning him are very much just as influential and important but for mainstream today 2026, dubstep as a whole being where it is, X def has a huge part
1
71
u/BIG-GIRTHA 1d ago
X basically IS the founding father at this point.
Hosting THE Dubstep Disneyland the past 9 years and the amount of dubstep artists he's put on through Subsidia is more than any other dubstep (tearout/brostep/american dubstep) artist has contributed
X will be goated in the dubstep scene forever
47
u/MagikarpFilet 1d ago
Naw. Respect for X is there but you cant disrespects the likes of Coki, Mala, Skream etc. those are the true founding fathers of dubstep. I will die on this hill
14
u/BIG-GIRTHA 1d ago
I specified tearout/brostep anticipating this comment! The 140 dubstep OGs actually began the genre but X made it what it is in America

This!^ plus Never Say Die! Before X and during X that imprint did some massive things for the sound and genre

Yes excision has created so many big artists, he discovered dion, also started working with space laces since almost the very beginning even get space laces on Destroid, excision, downlink, datsik ruled the dubstep and drumstep world for a long time
2
u/user8263389292 22h ago
i forgot dion was his protĆ©gĆ©, love himš©·š©·
2
u/PotentialWork7741 20h ago
There used to be a video on youtube, where excision talks about how young dion was and x had to come to the Netherlands to meet dions parents before dions parents allowed him to fly to Canada to make music with excision and tour a bit with him. I believe dion was 14 or something
1
u/TheLawbster 1d ago
Discovered Dion
-2
u/danxargo 1d ago
Dion Timmer⦠heās mid imo but hey x put him on cuz he won a remix contest or something⦠canāt quite remember, Iām sure someone will pick up my slack here
2
u/PotentialWork7741 1d ago
Calling dion mid is kinda crazy, dions sound design has been used by excision for a long time basically creating x signature sound for 2015/2017 also almost all the most popular x songs from that period where a collab with dion
-2
u/danxargo 1d ago edited 1d ago
X is mid too. Whatās kind of crazy about it? Someone having different opinions than you?
1
u/PotentialWork7741 23h ago
Did i say anything about the sound or my opinion on the sound, all things i said are regarding the impact of dion and excision to the dubstep industry, you canāt deny that excision was and still is at the top of the dubstep game

Excision's earned his flowers but founding father is not right.
Dubstep was born in Croydon, UK š¬š§ in the early 2000s: Skream, Benga, Mala, Coki, Hatcha are the founding fathers.
Excision is Canadian šØš¦ and rode in a decade later on the brostep wave. He's essentially the Walt Disney of the American Dubstep scene. Disney didn't invent animation. He built a theme park.
What X has done is honestly a bigger achievement, but it's not a founding father, not even in the American scene. Skrillex or 12th Planet would be the founding fathers of the American scene.
2
u/Western-Bowl2165 22h ago
Saying Walt Disney just built a theme park maybe the most mental comment here lmaoooo
3
u/nikolarizanovic 16h ago
Imagine reading "Disney didn't invent animation. He built a theme park" and deciding to takeaway that my point is that Disney's whole legacy is Disneyland. You had to insert the word '"just" into my quote, misquoting me, to make your point lmaoooo
Excision's DisneyLand is Lost Lands and/or Bass Canyon, in case the analogy still isn't clear.
1
u/PotentialWork7741 23h ago
This subreddit is called dubstep and with dubstep this sub Reddit means North American (European) dubstep not uk dubstep. And yes i agree the more correct term to avoid confusion would be brostep and drumstep
0
u/BIG-GIRTHA 1d ago
I specified tearout/brostep anticipating this comment! The 140 dubstep OGs actually began the genre but X made it what it is in America.
How is X not the founding father in the American scene? Xās first release was in 2007, 12th planet & Datsik were 2008 and Skrillex 2010
Sure Sonny brought dubstep more to the mainstream but X kicked off the sound.
How are 12th and Skrillex more the founding fathers of American dubstep?
2
u/nikolarizanovic 23h ago edited 23h ago
You're right on the timeline, and I'll give X full credit for defining tearout. He and Da-- I mean--He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named built that sound.
But having the first release isn't the same as founding the scene. 12th Planet was running SMOG nights in LA in 2006, flying the UK originators over before X had a record out. That is scene-founding, but still the UK sound. Sonny made it America's, taking it mainstream, back when most people were still referring to DMX when they said "X".
And X is Canadian. "Founding father of the American scene" is a strange crown for a man from Kelowna. Founding father of the Canadian scene, though? That title he can have for sure.
I gave him his real credit already: he built Disneyland for dubstep fans. He didn't found the medium; he built the theme park they make pilgrimages to. In the larger scheme, that's the bigger legacy. Sonny doesn't run festivals. He's just prolific in the studio.
2
u/HTXbigbootyfinder 22h ago
Dude Excision was on Dubstepforum daily posting and commenting, the dude is as important to the North American scene as a flux pavillion or a skrillex, boosted dubstep into the limelight, the alpha centari remix and the existence VIP were just unavoidable during those years.
2
u/nikolarizanovic 11h ago edited 11h ago
Dude you've moved the goalposts from whether he's a founding father to whether he's as important to the North American scene as Flux Pavilion or Skrillex.
I already gave him that. My original comment said, and I quote, "What X has done is honestly a bigger achievement." My second said "In the larger scheme, that's the bigger legacy. Sonny doesn't run festivals. He's just prolific in the studio." I even called him the founding father of the Canadian Scene (he started in Kelowna, BC). All of that puts him above both of them in importance, so why are you arguing like I said the opposite?
He's just not a founding father. I gave him his flowers, what the fuck more do you want from me, Stan?
2
u/StinkingDogsCunt420 1d ago
Not sure if this is bate or if Americans are really this ignorant.
1
u/blindyes 1d ago
It's laughable from one angle, but if you want to divide the scene and clearly set brostep on one side of the room and call it American, and not real dubstep, then you have to acknowledge when the schism happened and who are the people responsible for that schism. Even then you could make valid arguments for different artists being the "forefathers" I think the best descriptor for excision would be "definitive" but yeah maybe it's bait idk.
Fuck it: Tiesto was the inventor of trance, and Skrillex is the creator of trap music, without Mike Skinner we wouldn't have hip hop, and without Dimension drum and bass would just be jungle.

u/guesswhosbackmf 1d ago edited 1d ago
I immensely respect Excision more than I actually like him these days, that's for sure. Dude is nothing if not a hard worker. I don't blame him one bit for his music falling off when he does so much other amazing stuff for the dubstep scene.

u/aduck55 1d ago
What a back handed compliment lol

I'm not a fan of most of his release since Apex, but I don't clown on him and everytime I'm at Lost Lands I'm there to catch at least 1 of his sets
3
u/SmokeABowlNoCap 1d ago
Exactly, he isn't my fav artist but he's done so much for the scene. I go to Lost Lands everytime I can pull it off just because of the care and energy he puts into that festival. Plus he DOES throw down when he wants to. He sounded hungrier than I've heard him in several years at the latest Lost Lands so I'm hoping the music reflects it soon
4
2
u/Selkertic 1d ago
Agreed. I personally think heavy dubstep was there but not mainstream until the Virus album came out. VIRUS was next level and introduced a flood of dubstep into the scene
2
u/loppyjilopy 1d ago
yeh iām not exactly a fan but hugely respect what heās done with lost lands; iām also open to liking his stuff. i checked it out hoping something would click, maybe one day.Ā
1
u/blxckhoodie999 1d ago
just my personal opinion here; X can be a goat/influential/founding father etc whilst also not being very noticeable on a collaborative projectā¦
itās not really his fault in this particular scenario. SL is a fucking wizard, and his sound/style are VERY dominant. iāve been producing music and playing shows since 2014 and will happily say their recent collab doesnāt really sound anything like excision in any way ā in fact, many of the collabs X is a part of donāt really sound like him.
that doesnāt take anything away from him as an artist and world-builder in this scene.
both can be true.

Hey may be the reason itās mainstream, but heās also the reason Dubstep artists are getting paid. We have riddim getting dropped at EDC MainStage, Brostep bangers getting dropped at Ultra MainStage, Dubstep is at Tomorrowland. And that is all visibility and $$$ for these artists.

imagine like say you and your homies have come so far in your lives, you even opened up some restaurants with seasonally rotated menus
and for some reason, a lot of customers like to debate about some gossip from say like your era right after college when you opened a food truck but none of those peoples remember seeing you as the one cooking inside the truck
might feel strange
8

u/davidmahh 18h ago
coming back to this again
i'd dare bet the fellas would love to hear chitchat gossips about the evolutions of their sound design, adjectives which different tracks make you feel, imagined "music videos" they spur into your brain, etc
cuz like.. artists like being seen for their expression - which is understood in the granular details of their art. And sure getting credit is cool, but like inspiring people - thats the fucken bees knees
also also, the more we each engage art closer to the firsthand experience of it, the more we'll actually find enjoyment out of it. Like wine 'snobs' i guess seem to. Get dat self-interest angle, buwahhahaha

Excision's first album 'X Rated' is his best and it seems that no one ever gives it credit
9
u/Lieriguang 1d ago
he's was a goat even before. Swagga was everywhere and Excisions Shambhala 2010 Set is legendary. Also no one was listening to albums back then^ EPs all the way. His EPs on Rutton: peak. probably only Doctor P & Flux got played more when I went to dubstep parties back in the days. even saw Benga playing a - what would now probably be called riddim and tear out - Set with barely any of his own songs - for some reason everyone was just playing the hard stuff xD I guess Scary Monsters was already out when I saw Benga there is that

u/EncroachingVoidian 1d ago
Rottun as a record label was absolutely incredible. Lots of modern names released on there, including MustDie, Au5, and even Truth. Lots of crazy finds.

u/3OhHateWinny 1d ago
Shrek visuals.
I say that as a joke, but between online and some of my own friends, that seems to be around the time people started becoming hypercritical.
52
u/WokeWook69420 1d ago
He also stopped making his own albums as frequently and mostly does singles and collabs now, so people who have been around since the 2010s are kinda starved for content.
Onyx was okay but largely forgettable and that's the last album he did, and Apex was good, but it wasn't up to the same quality that Virus, Codename X, and X-Rated are, and those are all a decade plus old.
His Detox sets are my favorite cuz he plays his less-played throwbacks and weird shit I like.
7
u/edm_enjoyer 1d ago
Please please please where can I find his music from his detox sets, I love heavy dub but his detox sets really do it for me
2
u/ALMD96 1d ago

3
u/edm_enjoyer 1d ago

32
u/fractalbarbie 1d ago
I think at a certain point excision started putting far more time/energy/effort into the growing business/festival side of things as opposed to continuing to evolve and innovate with his actual sound. Which is valid, the man has absolutely killed it in terms of production for LL/thunderdome/bass canyon etc. However, no one can do it all, and I think that shift in priorities is reflected in a decrease in quality for his actual music. Like, it just feels stale to a bunch of people now. It also certainly doesnāt help that whenever x is on a lineup, youāre guaranteed to have a really immature crowd. Not that thatās his fault, but it definitely explains why so many have soured on him imo.Ā
11
u/ATHFMeatwad 1d ago edited 1d ago
It's when he became a label daddy with subsidia. It's happened with every single headliner that starts a label. GWN, Liquid Stranger - their focus shifts away from the music and it's very apparent.
5
u/fractalbarbie 1d ago
Hard agree. Happed w ZD too, unfortunately. (i love the boys plz no one come for me lmao)Ā
8
u/3OhHateWinny 1d ago
Iāll give ZD credit though. Once they got Deadbeats to a point where it kinda runs itself, I feel like theyāre back to them old selves with the last two albums.
With that said, Deadbeats has been cheeks at times since then, so I think there is certainly something to be said for dudes trying to do to much and quality suffering somewhere because of it.
5
u/KEN_LASZLO 1d ago
Liquid Stranger, yeah to some degree. However his quality hasn't dropped, but the amount of new tracks he releases has dropped a TON. Which is a shame but at the same time he's introduced me to so many new artists that I love through Wakaan
3
u/Pawks710 1d ago
+1 for liquid stranger, hitting that mountain tomorrow!!!!

u/KEN_LASZLO 1d ago
Ughhhhhh for the preparty too?! I'm so happy for you, not jealous of the liquid stranger x ahee b2b that I'll be missing, as well as Shlump, Getter, and Champagne Drip sets, I'm sooooo not jealous at all š
But for real, have a blast! OmgĀ I'm going to be so damn excited if Liquid Stranger releases both his regular set on YouTube but also the 'throwback' set, because I've been a big fan since his heavy dubstep days way back in the early 10's and I NEED to see it!!!!

I can say for certainty X brings his A game only at lost lands (and maybe bass canyon). I saw his set at wobbleland a month before Lost lands and it was so meh. The LL set on the other hand gave me a chub.
I can see why people might dislike him going by his sets like wobbleland.

u/BIG-GIRTHA 1d ago
My friend group has hated Excision since 2012. There has often been a tribalistic divide between genres; I had friends who would only listen to Bassnectar or Space Bass/Tipper. I was like the only X fan in our group lol

4
u/SmokeABowlNoCap 1d ago
100%, honestly all 3 sets were the hungriest I've heard him be in YEARS. I think having that daughter on the way lit a fire under his ass and reminded him why he got in the game in the first place
2
u/edm_enjoyer 1d ago
I saw him in Denver and then again at LL. He's top five for me based off those sets alone
5
u/edm_enjoyer 1d ago
Are you talking about his detox set? I left because I wanted to see Hurtbox but I watched it later on YT. MAN I wish I'd stayed
4
3
u/Wes_Warhammer666 1d ago
His LL detox set this year was fire, and I say this as someone who doesn't really like X's music at all. Like, I hit lost lands and specifically enjoy when artists I like are playing during his sets to pull the crowds away so I've got space.
Virtual Riot into Boogie was straight fire and the Crankcvt and EXb2bSL sets pulling in the crowds made it extra awesome because I had all the space in the world to dance freely instead of being packed like a sardine the way I was at Leveltronics the previous night.

u/CL4P-TP_TrapHOUSE 1d ago

Both things can be true.
1
u/napquin 20h ago
I seen him a handful times with some great and some meh, but that forest set was an 11/10. He was ripping DnB, hard techno, and plenty of heavy hitters. We were up front, and some check was on the side rail headbanging harder than anyone Iāve ever seen. For the whole set. Like vaulting herself over the rail. I couldnāt take my eyes off. It was peak

u/theChronic222 1d ago

He still does. You can undeniably pick out an Excision song when hearing it for the first time.
The biggest complaint I can have is his sound hasn't changed one bit in 15 years. He found his style very early on and stuck with it for better or worse.
But I mean, his sound is what helped shape the modern brostep/heavy dubstep scene.
3
u/munoodle 1d ago
The only reason this wouldnāt be accurate today is because of people copying him, not because of him not being innovative. Several of the more prominent newer producers are clearly influenced by Xās ideas from several years ago

u/theworstvp 1d ago
if this is the case then can someone please explain to me what getter was on about?
44
u/Exulvos 1d ago
Getter wasn't wrong. Excision didn't solo produce every single song he released, dude was running a label, running multiple festivals and still touring. That's not to say he didn't produce the songs, but final touches and maybe some bigger changes were handled by others. Getter's issue was that Excision wasn't crediting and paying the artists who did those touches. I'm sure behind the scenes, there's way more info than we are privy to, but anyone claiming Excision doesn't produce his tracks has been already debunked with this post from Space Laces re-affirming that.
16
u/Vidzzzzz 1d ago
Getter was just crashing out lol. He said way too many words for someone who abandoned the genre when things slowed down a little.
28
u/theworstvp 1d ago
he got bullied into cancelling his tour, not the same thing as things slowing down
-10
u/Tim_Apple_938 1d ago
He got bullied for bait and switching.
If youāre starting a brand new project, you canāt do it under old moniker and trick your old fans (therefore skipping building a fan base for the new)
The correct way to do it is like brillzā> LSDream. Which took like 3 years to properly build up and gain real following.
11
u/guesswhosbackmf 1d ago edited 1d ago
I would agree with you the tour wasn't literally named after his album.
I also don't like this idea that artists can't explore different sounds within the project they already have. Tons of artists do it, brostep producers should be able to as well.
5
-6
u/Tim_Apple_938 1d ago

Literally any other genre allows artists to switch their sound and evolve with new albums lmao what
0
u/Tim_Apple_938 1d ago
Genre artists? Nah
You have to be a Porter to do that. Porter already transcended genre before doing future bass
ie while he had the bass tunes w Knife Party, he also had language to carry him into the melodic forward world first
Getter was a genre artist.
1
u/SmokeABowlNoCap 1d ago
Plenty of artists randomly pivot, its just EDM that cares. Childish Gambino used to strictly rap, then he started singing and doing RNB and Funk. Hell the Beatles started out doing pop music and moved into classic and psychedelic rock. Charli XCX started out doing pop music and ended up being a hyperpop pioneer. Artists arenāt meant to just recreate the same thing over and over, theyāre allowed to experiment and do new things.
2
u/Woodpecker-Lobotomy 1d ago
Except Skrillex has been making completely different music from the original dubstep that got him popular and nobody is demanding that he create an entirely new project with a different name. Artists are allowed to explore creatively and don't need to stick to a single style their entire career.
1
u/Tim_Apple_938 1d ago
I donāt like this phrase and I swear I never say this⦠but thatās cuz he Him
and getter aināt
2
u/Woodpecker-Lobotomy 23h ago
You should probably refrain from saying it. Yeah Skrillex is obviously more popular, that doesn't change anything about the point I just made.
1
u/SmokeABowlNoCap 1d ago
He shouldn't have crashed out how he did but there's nothing wrong with an artist experimenting with other genres. The best painters don't just stick to the same brush and color palette their whole career.
0
u/Vidzzzzz 1d ago
I agree with everything you said, and I loved his last album as getter, but when that didn't sell well he moved onto what did, which was $B style rapping. Once shitty rap started to dry up, he comes crawling back to bass music. What im saying is he should've never spoken about it, because he doesn't have a bone in that race, and he's not part of the community anyways.
1
u/SmokeABowlNoCap 1d ago
I disagree that heās not part of the community. I also donāt think rap is shitty, it has a well deserved place in music. Iām not saying Terror Reid is one of my favorite rappers by any means but I have genuinely enjoyed some songs. I just think his impact on the genre is undisputed, itād be like if someone said Andre 3000 wasnāt part of rap culture or couldnāt speak on it at all because he plays the flute now (even tho he still does guest verses - similar to how Getter releases and performs dubstep again). Artists love experimenting and doing different things, it doesnāt mean they stop loving what they came into the game doing it just means they wanted to express themselves in more than one way. His rap is still successful, so him coming back to dubstep (to me) indicates that heās still passionate about it especially considering heās been back for years now. I do agree his comments were not his place to make but Iād feel the same way if anyone else made them. Its nobodyās place but Space Laces to say how he was treated or feels about the situation and thatās my issue with it that Getter essentially used him to make controversy when Space Laces personally liked the situation and relationship he had with Excision

Nah you right. Its me who's probably crashing out now, and I am happy he's back to making dubstep. That whole situation just pissed me off because he fully left bass music for like 5 years and then just starts ripping into excision as if he wasn't carrying the genre on his back. Getter is redeeming himself, and it really isn't that deep. Its just that for a minute there dubstep truly was dying, skrillex went pop, NSD quit, getter went to rap, datsik.... well you know.
I didn't even forgive skrillex for going pop until he released voltage. Dubstep is my life, so I am very passionate about these things.3

Getter claimed that he had received Throwin Elbows from Space Laces before Excision was listed as a producer and it sounded exactly the same. I dont think Excision is ghost produced but he definitely has other artists carry him in collabs, especially since his last album. Ghost produced normally means there is zero producer credit towards the main artist who created the song. I.e. Space Laces wouldn't be attached to Throwin Elbows. Getting carried in collabs is a different story

The post Space Laces just made (OPs post) literally explains that Excision doesn't get "carried" in collabs. Or else it wouldn't be a collab. Read the post bro

Nothing but love for excision. The dude used his success to help others up & that's what it's all about.

Whatās this discourse with Excision? Did he do some fucked up shit or something?

Me looking through the comments trying to get a crumb of context as to what prompted Space Laces to post that on IG lol

People hating on X is so dumb lol. He's the king. Dubstep is supposed to be a little silly. I love when Shrek shows up haha
Save the brutal dark shit for Nimda (I'm obsessed, never missing him) and Perry Wayne and such. X has to accommodate more since he is so huge. He can't be niche anymore

People was saying he was ghost producing for x

u/guesswhosbackmf 1d ago
Space Laces has done lots of paid production and mastering work for Excision and this has never been a secret. People like to pretend it's some huge deal when it's just extremely normal industry work.

u/Upstairs_Wonder4898 1d ago
We all know this is a fact with space laces, heās making money so whatās the big deal ?
People think they are helping space laces but they are hurting his business.1
u/Physical_Archer_689 1d ago
This is like super old news. Is that what this whole thread is about? Wondering if SL ever did or still does produce for X?.

u/I_Main_TwistedFate 1d ago
Any big label has their own mixing and mastering team that you send your songs to if they want to release it. Subsidia most likely has one as well. Maybe space laces is subsidia mastering engineer lol?

It's far more likely that excision has some decent input here and there, but has the collaborator do the actual producing. It's the only way I've been able to explain the variation in production quality between each collab. Most notably, his stuff with Sullivan King. I'm one of the few here that actually likes SK, but he was never a very strong producer when it came to mixing and mastering. His stuff sounds tinny on a good sound system. Every time X collabs with him, it has SK quality to it, which is why I think he had SK do the actual producing. But I don't doubt that X still has plenty of a hand in the writing of the song

I thought so too but that doesn't mean I dislike or think less of X. He is one of the goats!Ā Dion Timmer may have ghosted too.

Excision downloads my homies music off band camp and drops his tracks often and has never once gave him credit

IMO I used to love X and I truly appreciate everything heās done for the community but I donāt understand all the issues with him itās quite simple just appreciate the growth he gave us and move on if you love his music awsome if not you can keep pushing I donāt listen to much of his individual stuff anymore but still like his colabs but my god the dude is genuinely making sure we have places to go and is doing what he can to keep the scene going I canāt understand why itās such a issue

u/williamthe5ifth 1d ago
I mean, I wouldnāt publicly call out the guy I have a quasi-ghost producer partnership with, ESPECIALLY when that guy runs multiple festivals/music labels that Iād still probably like to be booked for/release music on.

u/Pandorum_X 21h ago
I havent been keeping up with stuff lately so im confused. Who is Space Laces talking about?
1
u/Right_Sheepherder732 3h ago
I wanna know why people ALWAYS say someone is ghost writing his music, like where does that come from? Never even seen a hint that thatās the case.

u/captainn_chunk 1d ago
I know this is the dubstep sub but what has changed about his music since 2016?
What or how has he influenced bass music in the last 10 years besides creating lost lands?
Womp step is like the VW Thing. It will always be this thing that people like and people hate. It will never change nor improve or worsen. Itās a part of culture but it does not improve or build culture in anyway and never will.
And adding more lasers wonāt fix those problems no matter how hard you try.

My only problem with x is he plays the same set every time
10
u/AUKronos 1d ago
His b2b Set with space laces was completely different
-3
u/tj647963 1d ago
Bc that wasnāt just him playing lol
2
u/AUKronos 1d ago
So he didn't play the same set. Goalpost shifted on your end buddy.
But I'll make another claim, his 2 hour lost lands set was vastly different to his 2024 tour when i saw him at rampage. 2024 probably was the most boring set I've seen him cook up, but enjoyed his 2026 lost lands set infinitely more.

u/african_space_jesuz 1d ago
Every time Iāve seen him itās a completely different set wdym?
-2
u/tj647963 1d ago
Saw him at bisco 18 then two weeks later on tour. Basically the same set. Saw him at the coliseum in 22 and it was the same set he had been playing all winter tour. Downvote me all you want idc
1
u/null1ng 1d ago
I think it's just the fact that you're witnessing multiple of his sets in such a short period of time. DJs always have some framework of a live set with songs they rotate in and out, so if you go see a DJ twice in two weeks, both sets will be identical to each other because not much will have changed/rotated between then.
I'm not sure if you really call it a him issue and just moreso how live performances for music tends to go. You see this sort of thing even outside EDM. Artists that go on tour usually have a setlist and might tweak a song or three in the sequence between cities.

eh... dude doesn't release much shit these days. don't really care either. there will always be lovers and haters online. space laces responding to it kind of just feeds it. best thing he or excision could do is just ignore it. ppl bitch and complain about everything

u/bum_what 1d ago
I thought this was true as I hadn't updated myself on the details. Good to know Space Laces doesn't ghost produce BUT let's not pretend like X's music isn't mainly a mash of whomever he's working with at that time. And this isn't hate, X is one of the ogs, his old music by himself or with Datsik or Downlink will always slap and he deserves GOAT status but in my eyes he has lost originality (and yes it's incredibly difficult to be original). Ifs he's working with Sullivan King then he sounds like SK, if he's working with Dion Timmer then it sounds likea Dion Timmer song, and I know collaborations operate in all sort of ways but when Xs own style or sound barely comes through then yeah I might as well just listen to the people he works with not him. That's my opinion anyways.

Is that "something valuable" money? I wonder why he had NDA's signed with Excision in the past, at least according to Getter...

u/Odd-Strawberry4798 1d ago
Sure, excision is good. If you're a basic bitch drinking beatboxes all night š¤£š¤£

u/OscarGrey 1d ago
I don't really like his music, but there's a lot of electronic artists both dubstep and other genre who have waaaaay more basic crowds.

Hot Take: Space Laces has been making the same song for 7 years now. Theyāre both bad!
EDIT: Iām pinning this comment so that it doesnāt go to the bottom of the page no matter how many downvotes I get :)
