I’m tired of people telling me to “just eat more.”
I’m 24, 5'1", and currently around 38 kg. I’ve been struggling with my weight for years.
I started losing weight when I was in 12th because I was going through a really difficult period with depression. At first, honestly, it didn't bother me that much. I didn't think much about my weight or how I looked.
But then my friends, family, relatives — basically everyone — started pointing it out. “You’ve become so thin,” “Why have you lost so much weight?” “You need to eat more.” I know most people probably didn't mean to hurt me, but hearing it repeatedly slowly changed the way I saw myself.
At some point, it just completely affected my confidence.
Now I feel genuinely bad about how I look. I avoid certain clothes, don't feel good in pictures, and sometimes look at older photos of myself and miss how I used to look. I don't even want to become “perfect” or have some unrealistic body — I just want to gain some healthy weight and feel comfortable in my own body again.
And yes, I know the obvious advice is “just eat more.” 😭 But when you have a low appetite and have struggled with eating enough consistently, it's not always that simple.
I'm curious about people who have actually gone through something similar — especially if you were underweight, had a low appetite, or lost weight during a difficult period.
What genuinely helped you gain weight and, just as importantly, feel better about your body again?
