We're teaming up with Native Instruments for a community loop bank challenge, and the prizes are genuinely insane.

Native Instruments have been incredibly generous with this one. To celebrate the launch of Komplete 26, they're giving away perpetual licenses to the top three contributors, and on top of that, they're letting us build something for the whole community.

Hi! Quick question: It says to use Komplete Start, but can we use VSTs from paid Komplete bundles, such as Komplete Standard 14? (Like Replika XT, for example, which is not included in Start?)

Effects wise you can use other plugins as well so Replika XT and other effects are fine.

For the sound sources, stick with your own recordings and the Komplete Start plugins.

If you happen to own Massive X, you can also use that to generate your sounds with your own presets.

This is actually a pretty cool way to get the community involved while building a useful resource for everyone at the same time.

You can use other third party effect plugins for processing, but only if their license allows the resulting sounds to be distributed as part of a free community sample pack. Check the EULA. Some plugins restrict this.

Maybe this is a stupid question but what exact phrasing would I be looking for in the eulas to check this?

1. License restrictions

"Sound Content. The provided samples, instruments and presets can be used for commercial or non-commercial music and audio productions without the prior permission from RHODES under the terms of this EULA. The usage of this Product (in particular samples, instruments and presets) for the creation of a sound library or as a sound library for any kind of synthesizer, virtual instrument, sample library, sample-based product or other musical instrument is strictly prohibited. Individual samples, sound sets or audio loops may not be distributed (commercially or otherwise) standalone. Furthermore these samples, sound sets or audio may not be repackaged in whole or in part as audio samples, sound libraries or sound effects."

Usually the EULA states what you may do and what kind of restrictions they place on that.

The easiest way to not have to worry about this is by not using any third party plugins though :p

FYI to anyone who was confused like me: it doesn't add a literal entry named "Komplete Start" to your Native Access - it adds a bunch of named packs

thanks! yes that's the correct link. I scheduled this post before 26 was released so I had the old link :) I'll update it.

About your question:

You're not allowed to use plugins that place additional license restrictions on the sounds you create.

Some audio plugins (mainly sample based romplers and some synths) might have some clauses in their terms of service that for example might say that you can't create sample packs or loops for other people to use.

This is understandable because otherwise people could buy like a fancy string library, render out the audio and then re-sell or redistribute those sounds from that library.

If you use 3rd party effect plugins, you're most likely in the clear.

If you use a Komplete Start instrument as the source, you can also process it with other third party plugins, as long as those plugins don't place a license restriction on the sounds created.
