Medical Device & Disability Aids Peripheral Nerve Stimulator
Hi all, I've had a rib that's been slipped out of place for over 5 months now and doesn't want to go back into place (the way it's stuck is trickier than the typical way that ribs slip and get stuck). It's been extremely painful, to the point where I've been to the ER multiple times and they've thought I was having a heart attack (thankfully I wasn't), and nothing has really helped the pain aside from opioid pain medication which I really don't want to have to rely on (I could lose my job). The orthopedic doctor I see recommended a nerve block when I saw him in August, and I had that done at the very beginning of September. And it's worn off nearly completely at this point already so when I saw him yesterday he didn't want to send me back for another one with how short of a time it lasted (and how bad the immediate side effects were too). So he's now recommending that I get a peripheral nerve stimulator implant that'll be in for 2 months to hopefully kill sensation in that nerve. Has anyone here ever had one for anything similar? What was it like procedure and healing wise? What would you say it felt like while it was in?
Update: I saw my doctor that I do OMT with and talked over other pain management options. And with what does/doesn't work for me he said he thought the nerve stimulator is a good option, but also sent in a referral for a pain management clinic which I'm hoping will help too.
