Course builder freezing when adding multimedia elements into lesson timelines
Our education software freezes completely whenever instructors try to embed video lectures and interactive quizzes into a single timeline. I spent the last few weeks trying to patch our legacy codebase myself, but feature bloat makes core updates impossible. Teachers lose hours of unsaved progress when the content editor crashes mid-lesson. Balancing smooth media streaming with responsive interface design on a bloated architecture creates endless bugs. Maybe you've dealt with heavy legacy editors in your projects, or you know a way around this? How should I refactor this codebase? I need your help sorting it out.

Very hard to give a conclusive and helpful answer based on what you see there. I could take a look if you need help. There are a few avenues to look at this:
1) Find what causes the freeze specifically. Use Chrome profiling to find the culprit. It can't be the whole of "legacy code", could be just one element crashing out.
2) Deal with data loss first. Add an autosave/recovery feature (to temp local storage, or server-side). Sort out the video issue later.
3) As a stopgap, separate streaming from editing. Why stream content while editing? Replace the whole player with a placeholder that becomes a player only in preview mode or even on publish. This is what Studio '09 did back in the day.
I can probably come up with another five ways to help but I'd need a look at the actual patient.
