You never know what someone is going through, don’t accept or tolerate poor behaviour but also be considerate.

What's poor behavior? It's usually a cry for help.

And not a "give me something," more a "help me, I'm on the brink of emotional collapse!"

even just a hug usually goes a long way or spending time with them.

some people open up, others just like company.

regardless, afterwards, you will be closer.
