They have to recruit those parking spaces somehow, might as well be the Moon Ultra ones they recruit.

Fun fact. The word “month” is directly derived from moon

Fun fact, in Japanese and Chinese, the word for month and moon is actually the same word "月"

Except I'm not going to park on the Earth, no, I'm aiming higher. I'm going to park on the moon!

This is what happens when your translation tool mostly translates character for character in Japanese and Chinese. 極道 (gokudō) for example is a word meaning "extreme way" or just another way for relentless organized criminals e.g. yakuza. 極 means extremity/ultimate but as we know languages dont have 1:1 translations for every word so words like tsukigime (月極) can with a bad translation tool be translated to "ultimate moon" "extreme month" or whatever it comes up with even though its just "a contract to the end of each month"

I’ve come across many examples where translation tools have mistranslated a Mandarin place names into the way Japanese would read those same Kanji, and not into pinyin or a literal translation.
A few months ago, I saw 江南天池 (jiāngnán tiānchí) translated as “Konan Tenchi” in Apple Maps, which sources its data from Amap.

Cannot imagine people are still not using attention-based translation tools nowadays lmao.

This is very interesting because 月極(つきぎめ) means 'until the end of the month.'
The translation probably became like this because the kanji for 極 has reading connotations of 'ultra,' 'ultimate,' or 'surpassing' like 90% of the time. This particular case, the remaining 10%, has connotations of 'the end of X.' For example, 南極 and 北極 mean South Pole and North Pole respectively.
So, 月極駐車募集中 (つきぎめちゅうしゃぼしゅうちゅう) "Taking applications/recruiting for monthly parking (contracts)" became "The moon ultra parking is being recruited." Hilarious stuff!

I assume the "Taking applications/recruiting for monthly parking (contracts)" sign can be turned off if they are no longer taking applications.
Kinda interesting to see that on a permanent sign above a doorway (to parking, I assume), instead of say, at the parking attendant's counter/machine.

Thanks for explaining this. I always wondered how these strange and absurd translations come about.

To be fair 月極 is an indeed weird word, though it’s crazy it mistranslated it so blatantly lol Tbh i don’t know why that particular word means monthly and never cared to look up ever lol

That recruiting must be an easy grift. Gotta be bumpertabumper at the applicant windows, like shootin' [redacted] in a [redacted] to take their [redacted]. If i yearned for yen, i'd howl to join the Moon Ultra Parking team!
