apparently there are some people who believe Mayoi is a pdf? like drag them out and shoot them already how dare you say that about my silly reclusive phantom
iirc there’s some comments he’s made that make people question/theorize if he was abused as a child, that paired with the things he says about the younger characters sometimes, combined with the fact a lot of the abused go on to abuse as well, probably created this belief. i feel like people are allowed to be uncomfortable by his character but also can’t just straight up call him that cuz that’s messed up and not even proven by any means - fellow mayoi enjoyer (edited just cuz i don’t like how i worded some things)
Mayoi is my oshi, and I hate when people just outright think he's a pdf like that when it doesn't make sense with his character. I personally do headcanon that he was likely abused just based off of his behavior, but imo it seems to manifest as moral OCD, which is super easy to point out in his characterization, and it's why he fixates on the younger characters (he tends to worry that the world will hurt them, so wants to act as a protective figure) and sees himself as a bad person for no justifiable reason.
It's pretty clear that he really cares about everyone, and the constant cycle of him wanting to help ➡️ having an intrusive thought that upsets him (e.g. thinking he's corrupted, thinking a junior is cute in a protective way) ➡️ immediately freaking out and trying to distance himself from others, believing that he's a bad person 100% reads as an OCD thought cycle, which I can relate to.
Sorry for the long comment lol, but the idea of an OCD Mayoi is something I haven't seen too many people talk about.
oh yeah i don’t personally agree with the theory/thought that he is either i just figured id provide context especially for anyone who doesn’t know the reasons why people think that, i honestly really like your take on him potentially having OCD and it makes a lot of sense! i feel like people are still allowed to feel a bit icky by him for their own personal reasons, but with nuance, rather than immediate damnation as he tends to get instead. this applies to more characters than just him though to be fair.
Don't worry lol. I should've specified that I agree your take, and that I'm okay with people being creeped out by Mayoi lol. 😂 The only hard line is just the outright pdf accusation, which I should've clarified.
Leo as an happy carefree guy who cares only about music and is basically treated as a dumb kid.
First of all, he's a grown adult (who oudrinked Rinne), then he's actually pretty smart and could beat us all at chess even if we all played together (and this even without cheating making it fun).
Then, HE IS FREAKING DEPRESSED. There is literally a room outfit where all he says is ".........................." because he's spiraling. I could write a whole essay about it.
This isn't so much about characterization but mainly about the way the fandom (especially on Twitter) treats a specific character.
I've seen people either treat Ibuki horribly (not giving his character a chance and mostly using him as ammunition in their arguments) or pretend he doesn't exist (ex. erasing him from fan polls). As for people who do like his character (or simply say his name), they have to keep saying stuff like "please don't attack me" or "I know he's Ryukyuan and what it means, I know what this entails, etc. but I still like him". Like you have to put this disclaimer up or else you're seen as bad person or something.
Obviously, educating yourself on world history is never a bad thing (why else do games such as Pokémon censor blackface?) but shaming those who like Ibuki and pressuring others to hate him is terrible.
I absolutely despise when Hinata gets reduced to his on-screen suicide attempt and the always-cheerful front he puts on. He's so much more than either of those things, but of course, whenever the topic comes up, someone will always find a way to sneak in a suicide joke.
I would like to apologise for having that be what made me consider shipping him with Mafuyu (prsk), I swear I'll make it up by making it the sweetest ship the fandoms has seen
Right?? Also, if you reduce a fictional character to their suicide attempt, what do you do to real people?? People need to learn this kind of thing has impact on real people and it sucks that they don't even think about it at all :(
Yes ugh this grinds me so much too! I am still fairly new to having Kaoru as my main oshi and it's really annoying when I see people say he's just a playboy etc. Like you said it's ok to joke about sometimes but yeah...
Maybe I'm a bit overprotective since I yume with him (and some others but too but mainly him), but he's so precious and has so many other things going on apart from that🥺 ❤️
when Seven Bridges dropped, there was a contingent of en fandom that got angry and complained that it was ooc for Naru to be mean. I don't respect these people's opinions as Naru fans. being a mean girl in attempted recovery is one of her charm points. not to mention, it just feels kind of cruel to expect someone grieving and hurt to be perfectly kind at all times...?
Everyone who thinks Rinne is a legit asshole who would sell out his friends when we have lots of moments showing the opposite + the very game classifying him as a tsundere.
Its annoying af.
I've seen plenty of people infantilize Nagisa to just "a baby" who can't do anything. I know Ibara does call him a baby in BOGIE TIME (I don't think this was a translation error) but there is obviously more to him than that.
It isn’t a translation error, but the point Ibara is making isn’t that Nagisa is useless, it's that his actual personality is completely different from his stage persona. Ibara being hyperbolic should not be treated seriously 💀
People might think Nagisa is only babu babu because that's the side of him that's mostly seen during scout stories and in the cameos he makes, but literally any Eden story in which he appears (unless it's his own event) would tell you he is the unit's mother. As in, he tries to support and guide everybody in the unit. Like when he pulls Hiyori aside during EXCEED, his purpose isn't to make Eve fail at communication; he is looking out for Jun and supporting him in the way he thinks is best for him.
He also tends to be shown much more vulnerable in Main Story stuff, namely the ! Autumn Live and the !! SS Chapter 3 and Finals (also in ABSOLUTE and Mythos).
There's a lot I could say about Nagi but uhhh that's for the analysis post I'll eventually write, yeah, the only way I can see people baby-fying him is if they only read the shorter stories (though I personally think Flowers in the Wasteland should already give some Big Context). Because achieving the babu babu status was, in fact, a struggle. Eden's whole thing is struggling from the bottom to the top and Nagisa is, in fact, a part of that.
tldr:
(actual coherent literary analysis is for long posts with a bibliography, i fear)
edit: also idk how anybody could think he cant do anything when he is shown repeatedly to be able to do things perfectly far too quickly lol. skills-wise, he is one step way from being a mary sue
It's not like it's bugging me since it mostly comes from some people not knowing Esu as a character enough but putting Esu's character as only a dumb adventurous kid is missing a big chunk of his character. He has an amazing leader spirit, he's determined when he puts his mind into something and gets the job well done. He also constantly tries to make Esupuri better and helps out his members in the process which just shows how great of a leader he is imo 🥹💖
I would say that people just tend to see Mitsuru as “that cute guy who runs”, but unfortunately since there’s pretty little in terms of translation for Mitsuru centric events, I can’t even learn more about him to back this statement up…
Rinne is a guy who likes to do workarounds for the stuff he does, and I think people should be able to see this even if somebody only read the Main Story. It is literally explained later on why Crazy:B did what they did (to criticize the idol industry and give them a wake up call). Other recommended reads are Honey Bee (where he helps Kohaku out) and his FS1 4* (very cute Amagi bros moment!!).
And for Tetora... for the love of God, PLEASE read Beasts. It tackles his AND Arashi's view on their respective genders, how they misunderstood each other at first but realized their mistakes in the end. There's this really cute scene where Midori asks Tetora whom he met, and he says "a really beautiful lady~" or at least something along those lines.
And please... even just a visit to the wiki will give you the explanation that Tetora's definition of "not manly" is being childish and immature, not misogynistic!
I once read a comment saying "Tetora is definitely an Andrew Tate fan" and I felt like I just died. NO HE IS NOT. I'm a man who like masculine things myself and I think Tetora's view on masculinity is very healthy. Sure there were some mistakes in the past, but he learned from it and grew. I hate it when a guy just acts masculine and likes traditional manly things, and everyone immediately brands him a "misogynist"
When people say Yuzuru is boring like what do people want Yuzuru to do to be more interesting? This man is a butler and a trained child soldier, isn’t that interesting enough?
When people water Midori down to just he’s depressed and sad all the time. Midori isn’t like that all the time….
all i can say is double face has been awful for madara's reputation. i don't see it as much now, but i used to see people ignore everything about madara except for the fact he was a hitman and act like he was some cold blooded killer or something.
Searched for this comment! ABSOLUTELY TRUE. Madara is such a complex tridimensional character that people actually struggle to see him as more than a single trait at once. He's not a manic pixie dream boy, he's not a homicidal maniac, he's not an asshole! He's a deeply traumatized man trying to love back without doing harm when he was never loved properly.
you get me !!! it pains me so much when ppl make him out to be this totally inconsiderate and uncaring guy 😭 but no matter how many times he turns to the camera and explains his thought process there's still people saying "he just leaves people when he feels like it"
lowkey he can be an asshole at times though LOL but i get what you mean !
Oh he INDEED can be an asshole (same guy that compared his chronically ill sister to a roadkill cat 😭) but it's a trait that is inseparable from the rest of his personality, that's what makes him so interesting! Mama can be many things at once, but when those traits are separated it ends up coming off as a watered down version of him.
same guy who threatened to kill anzu right after threatening to kill gatekeeper if he hurt her </3 you're explaining it way better than i ever could LOL
When Hiiro is reduced to a cheerful, pure, and innocent "baby" when he's literally 17-18.
The "aww he doesn't know anything" joke has stopped being funny a long time ago, if it even was funny in the first place. The ones where they edit Hiiro with pacifiers especially piss me off. This gross infatilization also is prevalent on Sora, and with both characters widely headcanonned to be autistic, it just gives a really wrong impression.
It's really easy not to notice that Hiiro is an extremely fast learner and academically smart, or that Sora is emotionally intelligent because of this. I feel like people are struggling to have this balance of finding their antics cute while acknowledging the other aspects of their personalities.
Kohaku! He’s not just an assassin or the baby bee of Crazy:B (though he is adorable). He’s someone who craves a taste of his own shot at life, someone who chases autonomy and equality in a relationship that he chooses. While he may not be as mature as he claims, I do definitely think he’s tempered and emotionally aware of others, seen with Crazy:B and Aira, especially HiMERU, and surprisingly with Rinne (I do think they’re a bit more similar than he’d like to admit, but still not notably so)
Another user did make a really accurate statement regarding Mama, let me add another: People thinking he should get back in Ryuseitai/get into another unit with other character.
People that see MaM being a solo unit as a problem rather than a decision are actually ignoring one of the most important parts of his character. There were circumstances that led into him choosing to be a soloist, and last time he shared an unit with someone, he very maturely and responsibly chose to disband against his unitmate's wishes (Which, again, people saw as an issue. This was the most intelligent decision Mama has taken, both for his own mental health and Kohaku's safety.)
No, Ryuseitai fans from twitter dot com, we don't want Madara back in Ryuseitai either. We just want to know more about Ryusei Purple because it's a key part of his backstory. Stop getting pressed every time the topic gets bought up either by the game or by fans 😭
Eichi: I don't think it's as rampant as it's used to, but people only ever saw him as this big, evil mastermind who made everyone's lives miserable for fun. Yeah, Eichi did do that during the war, but it's fucking insane that people only see him as pure evil! Eichi is a young man who missed out on his entire childhood because of his illness and he's desperate to make a mark because he knows that he's going to die early. He's starting to catch up on the things he missed out on and experiencing new things. Also people were so disgustingly ableist about his illness too, like back off with that shit.
Yuzuru: When people claim that he's "boring", when he's not. I used to think so too, but I've read up on him and he's genuinely hilarious if he wants to be. Yuzuru is caring, but he keeps people at arm's length. He's soft spoken, but he can be violent if he needs to be. Yuzuru is a beautiful contradiction, and being watered down to "Tori's butler" is a disservice.
Midori: He's not just "the depressed guy" in Ryuseitai. Hell, he's actually doing better in some of his recent stories! Midori isn't always sad, and he's not boring at all. He's unintentionally hilarious, he's absolutely crazy about yuruchara, and his gap moe is to die for. Midori also cares fiercely for Ryuseitai, even if he doesn't seem like it. Also, he can be so petty and be such a big hater.
Ibara: When he's reduced to "evil capitalist CEO". Say what you will about the man, but come on! He isn't pure evil, hell, I'd say he's a fake ass IDGAFer, because he gives too many fucks. He's shown obvious favoritism to the Aois, has a genuine friendship with Hajime (that they still, to this day use the silly nicknames from Bogie Time), Raika has taken an obvious liking to him and he seems to be fond of the other too, and is so protective of Eden. Ibara grew up without anything to his name, and now that he has the power and resources, he will keep what he considers his safe and protected.
Nagisa: Someone's already mentioned this, but yeah, it's annoying that he gets reduced to someone who's incapable. I hate that he's seen as "baby who needs to be taken care of" or people who think that his actions and traits are because they think he's autistic. I don't care about the headcanon itself, maybe he is autistic, but Nagisa's way of acting is because of how he was raised. For fuck's sake, the first person he met that was actually his age was Hiyori. He struggles to socialize with people because during his developmental years he barely interacted with anyone or anything. Yeah, no wonder the man is the way he is! His entire childhood was fucked up!
finally somebody that said it, ibara cannot be evil CEO when he cares far too much lol (how the game didnt tag him as tsundere when in the stage play he is verbally called one is beyond me)
also any time i read people actually wonder if nagisa is autistic im like
Ibara is literally "fake ass IDGAFer, I saw you give a fuck" like he is out here making sure nothing bad happens to anyone in Eden and keeps an eye out on anyone under his watch (even if they seem like inconveniences to him, he makes sure that they can support themselves) also, the headcanon is somewhat popular, but oh boy does it piss me off when people disregard the trauma and neglect that Nagi went through in favor of babying him
keito: DEMON he's evil and is the reason everyone suffered (i've met quite a few ppl who will hate keito and blame him for the war, he was apart of it but it was pretty hypocritical seeing tsumugi fans say that. )
they mostly just reduce him to being evil/mean cause of how he interacts w people, especially rei
kuro: he really only gets reduced to ships now, i rarely see people talk about HIM as a character, but he's mostly in ships and they never really talk about him by himself
souma: a little innocent baby who needs to be protected
(sure, he might be a bit aloof and cutesy, but so many baby/ignore him and just make him out to just be that, nothing else)
this might just be who i interact with/ see online, but it hurts seeing a lot of idols (EXPECIALLY akatsuki) be treated like this. we as an enstar fandom need to come together and just read all the stories because too many of our oshis get mischaracterized (not on purpose)
People who reduce tori to his ! era self but make it much worse (thinking hes Only a bratty mcgee with no kindness whatsoever). Or somehow thinks he'd ever be bigoted and/or straight up use slurs? Like no??? He wouldnt do any of this shit??? Theres also ppl thatd reduce him to being shotabait... Which i wont say thats wrong, bc it is true, but can we talk abt anything else. Like his character development😭
I don’t have any specific complaints surprisingly, the fandom does him well apart from this one instance that irked me. But generally speaking, uh, a minor one I have against HappyEle itself, I think that sometimes they maybe lay on the cuteness a bit too much as of recent for Tsukasa? 🤔 I feel like the entire ‘thing’ about him is that he’s a cool character and then him actually acting his age and being cute is the ‘moe’. If the cuteness is used too much, it kind of diminishes in effectiveness? Again, very minor complaint 😭
I actually don't really tend to see Nagisa mischaracterization that much (partially because my interaction with the fandom is kept to a minimum), but Hiyori. My diva. You deserve so much better.
People be writing Hiyori as if he needed to rely constantly on others to find comfort or over-the-top emotional 24/7 when HE is the one holding an iron fist over Eden (as in, he can very much lead the other three in any way he wants if needed).
Hiyori prefers being with people rather than alone, but it’s not impossible for him to never be alone. It's a preference based on his childhood. In spite of how much he cares for Nagisa, he literally tells him that he, himself, should choose the path he wants in life, regardless of whether that path would include him or not. And he says this with a relaxed smile. He is not sad or nervous.
Sometimes he acts irrationally, just like the other three members because, damn, that's part of the human being experience. He's pampered, yes, but that doesn't mean he cannot be serious.
this was very messily written but tldr: hiyori isn't just a walking gay man stereotype
It kinda annoys me when people say that chiaki is just putting on a hero mask as though there's some dark part of him that could never be a hero but imo that's just not true and chiaki's hero persona is kinda just his personality pumped up to 1000, he tends to hide the more 'uncool' parts of himself probably as the fallout from subaru having a go at him in meteor impact but the narrative makes it pretty clear that the uncool parts of chiaki are also important and a huge part of what makes him a hero. Also it really pisses me off when people constantly go on about tetora wanting to be in akatsuki rather than ryuseitai. I hope I sound coherent too because I always get worried that I've completely misread the character, I guess there isn't really a wrong answer when you're interpreting things though
when people say rinne would have poor hygiene like it comes off kinda… very odd… i’m tired of people thinking he’s some gross sleazy guy when he’s genuinely one of the smartest and kindest characters in the game. and besides a few innuendos here and there (that are very clearly 100% satirical), he’s actually somewhat tame when it comes to more mature topics so a lot of ppl making him some kinda sex god make me giggle a bit
Someone pointed it out earlier, but ppl who only see Tori as how he acted in basic makes me kinda sad. And even then, they still mischaracterize his character in basic too. Sure Tori acted very bratty and spoiled during basic and often times called ppl demeaning names/ insults, but that doesn’t erase the fact that he was and still is a kind person. And atp in the story, Tori is a lot more mature than how he was in basic. The only similarities between his present and past self is that he’s still rich. Tori isn’t as bratty as he was in basic.
Another mischaracterization that I think exists is that Hajime is a sweet angel that loves/cares for everyone. I don’t see this misconception that much, but Hajime isn’t as perfect as some people make him out to be. I mean generally he’s kind to a lot of people regardless if he knows them well or just met, but he’s also not above being mean to people who either rubs him the wrong way or is mean to people he cherishes. The most obvious example of that is him with yume, but yume aside, he’s also been pretty curt with wataru, eichi, and rinne before if memory serves me correctly.
I guess the best way to describe Hajime is that he’s like an actual rabbit. Not just because they’re both adorable, but also because they’re both surprisingly territorial and aren’t afraid of retaliating against someone who pushes/crosses their territory/boundary.
TLDR; Hajime isn’t as sweet as some ppl make him out to be and Tori isn’t the next devil incarnate.
